I can't say this is *EXACTLY* what the issue is, but I'll give you a little insight on what I've experienced in the last 12 hours...
I logged-off around 9:30 PM EST last night.
I checked Discord on my phone around 7 AM EST while taking my puppy out and had our 2nd In Command messaging me saying I was demoting people, kicking people, Guild Bank, etc. They knew it wasn't me, and that my account had been compromised.
I logged in and checked, sure enough...my account (Tens of millions of Gold and tens of thousands of Gold Materials, Psijic Recipes, Rare Motifs, etc. Literally...a Jackpot Account.) had been hijacked.
I never got an "unknown IP" email. I only play in 2 locations. Neither are accessible during the hours which this 'attack' took place. Unless you like armed security at one location or a nasty Doberman in your face at another...lol.
I lost 3.5 years worth of stuff, not to mention 2 of my Personal Guild Banks!
I hope this is all related, and I hope they roll-back all the changes that were made during this time.

Wow, this is super serious and will be warning all my guilds to check their banks and for the leaders to update their passwords just in case. Hopefully this will get fixed asap.To touch on what I was saying...for the dude up there that thinks it's a personal attack.
They kicked people in the Guild to make room for their other accounts to get added to our Guild. We're always at capacity, so have to kick to invite.
They promoted other accounts to speed-up the purge of the Bank and to gain access to the Bank, as only Officers have access (good time to touch base on the Guild Overhaul ESO so desperately needs!).
They at least had the decency to re-promote me to GM (LOL) and our Officers. Shame they kicked a few OG Beta / Psijic Order members when they were making room. ***...
They also bought Crown Crates and unlocked some mounts. In my original ticket, I noted that behavior as a method to prove it wasn't me. I cannot stand Crown Crates. haha
They also deleted a Warden of mine. Not sure why. I suspect their main is a Templar and they're still bitter about Major Mending and Blazing Spear Stun.
Passwords have been changed, also.
Well, yea.. that makes sence for the permition part. Yet, I dont feel this is the reason. It's a personal account issue, does not justify for a whole server roll back and neither a hotfix mantainance. ZOS should be capable of returning such amount of items/gold after a proper investigation, as has done before to a friend of mine with out the need of going global.
And why the hell they would delete a toon? Warden hate there...

You are assuming that the Guild he is a GM of was the only one that was hit. Rest assured, if these people did this with one Guild, they most certainly did it with another.
This is more than enough reason to take the servers down and fix an account exploit. Even if it was only one Guild affected. I would rather know that everyones accounts are secure than keep playing and wondering if myself or other guilds I'm in will be hit next. I don't care if it takes 10hrs to fix or 10 days.
Lastly, it also sounds like you are the one to have a personal issue with nine9six. You don't know how many other players have been affected by this. The problem is, if this WAS an intrusion or a player found exploit, if you tell people what it is it gives them a basis of testing parameters to break the code.
So if you have an electric fence and they tell you that there was a break in this specific area, but it was repaired, you investigate the circumstances of that break and the repeat attacks until success.
If you never know where that break was, you can't try to replicate it. It's a decent idea to obfuscate in these situations.

After some thought, I believe they are rolling back the servers. Some people might not even know their account was even hit. They might not know for weeks if they don't play that often or read the forums. To have to comb through countless accounts just to see the history would take days if not weeks, if that is even possible. To not restore any account that was affected would be wrong.

That is very insightful, i had not considered that. But its very possible then that they won't give us any info on this exploit even after its fixed.
