If the rumors on what this exploit was is true then it's huge and absolutely warrants immediate downtime for a fix.

Agreed, and they may not even have a fix yet but have simply closed the servers down for damage limitation. Only when they have a fix and have run it through QA will they be in a position to give an estimate on when the servers will come back up.

To touch on what I was saying...for the dude up there that thinks it's a personal attack.

They kicked people in the Guild to make room for their other accounts to get added to our Guild. We're always at capacity, so have to kick to invite.

They promoted other accounts to speed-up the purge of the Bank and to gain access to the Bank, as only Officers have access (good time to touch base on the Guild Overhaul ESO so desperately needs!).

They at least had the decency to re-promote me to GM (LOL) and our Officers. Shame they kicked a few OG Beta / Psijic Order members when they were making room. ***...

They also bought Crown Crates and unlocked some mounts. In my original ticket, I noted that behavior as a method to prove it wasn't me. I cannot stand Crown Crates. haha

They also deleted a Warden of mine. Not sure why. I suspect their main is a Templar and they're still bitter about Major Mending and Blazing Spear Stun.

    Passwords have been changed, also.

Last year two companies got hacked, yes I know lots did. but these two hold information for lots of other companies, so the pyramid effect stats to appear, but I only got told this year in febuary, & the thieves got my details & managed to get into some games I play and other accounts like mmorpg. I got all the accounts back very fast & now I have very strong passwords each different each long and complicated, sadly there are still sites that don't allow special characters.

What is the exploit please @ZOS_GinaBruno ?

Due to the nature of the exploit, we aren't able to divulge any details. That said, you can rest assured that we will be fixing it, and any accounts found to be abusing it will be taken care of.

Please explain us once again, why downtime is done only when EU prime time is nearby? Few hours for fixing some exploit? Since when applying fixes takes so much time? You need to replace whole game data at servers or what?
We certainly avoid taking the server offline during prime time, but in this case, the issue was serious enough to require us to apply a fix immediately.

everything in an mmo is primetime XD
I know someone who have their playtime before work at 6 am, and someone getting up from bed at 15 pm.

That's very true. It's always tough to choose a time to do maintenance since someone will always be affected. But playing before 6am? Ouch!

I agree that you cant keep everyone happy, but I think that we (the players in Europe that is) would be really really thankfull if you consider moving the downtime for European Server to a time that is more suited for our timezones, instead of doing everything at once.

@ZOS_GinaBruno could you at least stop with your "we don't disclose anything" policy when the issue has been fixed? I consider such information as quite important.

The problem is, if this WAS an intrusion or a player found exploit, if you tell people what it is it gives them a basis of testing parameters to break the code.

So if you have an electric fence and they tell you that there was a break in this specific area, but it was repaired, you investigate the circumstances of that break and the repeat attacks until success.

If you never know where that break was, you can't try to replicate it. It's a decent idea to obfuscate in these situations.

They may tell you privately if you have some need or ability to assist, but public sharing is not wise.

Yes, that's called security through obscurity and hasn't anything to do with security at all.

There were several exploits that were fixed but people found ways to exploit the issues again. So let us see to what this may lead:
    - The people who exploited the issue previously know where to look.
    - The people who would report the issue have no idea that there might be an issue with something.

Keeping such information away from the community doesn't help at all in my opinion. (Besides the fact we're dealing here with ZOS, which means chances bug reports are read are small anyway)

Just as an example against what you wrote above, when we're dealing with security. You know what CVE is or what NVD (nvd.nist.gov) is?
Vulnerabilities which have been made public. Mostly by the companies themselves or by the researcher who found the issue. According to your logic this would be a bad thing as people could try to break the same thing again. As you might have guessed by now, you're wrong.

Security by obscurity is never a good tactic. It's just a matter of time until someone else finds a similar (yet unfixed) bug. Imho it's better to encourage people to test it on PTS and give rewards for ones who finds a new exploit. Reward that makes it worth sharing with ZOS instead of abusing it for personal gains.

You're assuming people who would find the bug on PST would not be silent about it for personal gain. You like to believe all people are good and honest, don't ya.

It works fairly well for Google, and not so well for Apple - main difference being in the value of their reward vs. the worth of the exploit on the black market.

I have no complains about taking down the servers to stop and fix an exploit.

What I find very annoying though is the servers being taken down every week during European daytime hours for maintenance.

This company should take example of companies like Blizzard, where the weekly maintenance happens during the very early morning times of the respective world regions.

Guys, multiple guilds already reported that their bank was robbed.

Only the exploiters now. You can't expect to have the details in the open on day 1 on all public exploit boards. Probably not even on the private ones.

Where are the other reports on the other guilds I checked forums and don't see any
