Seriouly... few hours for an hotfix.
If you what has to be fixed you don't need few hours, just make the fix, stop megaservers, update, and restart.

IP ban is actually simple, just make a entry in a routing table. Only take a couple of minutes
When I was working in a fortune 500 company's IT dept the senior network architect got tired of spam email from particular place and just blocked everything from that country (it was Ireland of all places). He blocked everything, Email, Web traffic, DNS, Everything..Si vis pacem, para bellum3 -

✭✭✭✭✭I'm really intrigued as to how someone could bypass the security (2 factor authentication for unknown computer) in place to log into someone else's account, without knowing the password, as this would seem to be the case here.
The login server and the game server are two different things, so in order to be able to hijack this poor dudes account, you would have to be able to somehow authenticate to the login server as person A, then change the variables being sent to the server from the login server to person B, but you would have to know person Bs identifier in the login server as well as their authentication chain for the game server to accept it.
That's basically just reading the network traffic of the game and its inner workings like a phone switch, not sure someone has taken the time to do that.
Unless there is something wonky going on with the handshake between login server and megaserver that is changing people's identities around. <- that would be hilariously bad.
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.0 -

While I'm not naive enough to think my hours are more than the WHOLE SERVERS...but think...if this happened to me...it could have happened to others.
That said, I have a LOT of hours in those 3.5 years lol.
I hope they don't have to roll the whole server back, and honestly, I don't think I'd want them to. Not "just for me". I would like address an issue about not getting Alchemy writs yesterday. I did writs on 3 toons and only 1 was given the alchmey writ. Others did not get them. I posted about it in the bug section but no response yet. So I'm curious if Zos even knows about it to fix it? @ZOS_GinaBruno0 -

you are assuming that he was the only one that was affected by it, when it sounds like multiple people were affected - he's just the one that posted in here, or ZOS wouldn't be so swift with shutting down the game.
mind you, i don't actualy want to be rolled back. I didn't do much playing this morning other then feeding the mounts on couple of newish alts, but I did play last night and i did get a few things I wouldn't enjoy losing. the question here is scope of what is lost. a few hours of progress vs few years. so if the only way they can fix the issue is to do a rollback? let them rollback.

Thus why I said "unless absolutely necessary". I don't expect them to browse and reverse several hundred compromised accounts, that would cost too much to do individually.0 -
