[Jubilee Event] - Drop rates are a joke

That's a lot of Jubilee boxes. Congrats :)

Not if they're not in the top 12 damage dealers. That's the second layer of failure. Players who can't do as much damage as others are left holding the empty bag. So not only is there an oppressive RNG factor for the style pages, but what ZOS calls "low end" players get less overall rewards than the rest.

Jokes are funny. The drop rates for most of these limited time anniversary style pages are so low I can't say how I feel about it on this forum. It's like getting a lump of coal for Christmas. The standard anniversary drops from the anniversary boxes are still great though, so I guess we should focus on that. The 10th anniversary drops should have an exponentially higher drop rate though. It shouldn't take more than an hour to get any of these 10th anniversary style pages.

You don't need to be one of the 12 damage dealers, you only need to do 3% of the max HP damage to the boss/mob/npc to get loot. If you can manage to do so by timing your attacks in a way that they will be processed by the server-system BEFORE the hoard attacks, you will get loot.

And just in case. I am not a player wearing BiS equipment and I am not a player who does extrem high damage to npcs. I am a casual player, doing moderate amounts of damage. Still, I do manage to get loot from geyser bosses, though there are 30+ players at it. The times I do get loot are those when I do manage to time my attacks right, so that the system processes them and recognizes me doing at least 3%+ of the npc max HP as damage.

You do need to be among those with the “highest participation” to make the loot cap:

    https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/#en/answer/39750

I’ve done 50k on several geyser bosses and still not made it this event. Others have had similar experiences too.

Also confirmed well over 7.4k to Menta Na, and that’s 3% of their health. No boss loot.

    There are two requirements here.

I tried a few geysers in Summerset but I never got any loot in the final. I'm not sure if it's bugged or if I'm missing something. Anyway, it's a total confusion. Tons and tons of players doing the same. We can't even see anything. So, I really prefer to quit that, and I'll buy those styles later after the event. I prefer to pay a lot for it and have fun playing meanwhile than ruining the game by falling on the monotony of grinding. :)

Unfortunately, that's part of the issue here - the "special" anniversary style pages with the horrible drop rates are also bound, you will not be able to buy them.

Wait! What? Really???? That doesn't make any sense. Why would they do that? Trading is such a good thing in ESO, this kind of items should be an opportunity for players who like grinding to earn something from those (like me) who don't. I really don't understand.

This... I've found I often can't get loot at geysers on a character putting out endgame level dps. And I am hitting the boss for over 3% of its health.

Though I suspect there's also probably another issue at play here, which is that so many players are present laying down so many effects that the server is struggling to process everything in an intelligible way and there's a bit of a luck factor as to whether your damage even gets registered before the boss dies.

At the end of the day, it was a poor decision to send hordes of players to a single event that is not designed to handle them. Harrowstorms for example, while still trivialized by a large number of players, at least handle them more gracefully by providing visible targets (pikes and large bosses) in a much less confined space, and providing loot to all participants.

I am fairly certain that it is still a % plus top 12.

But, even if it weren't top 12, and just 3%.

Take a boss with 1.5M health. Every player would need to do at least 45,000 damage to the boss. Which is a hard cap of 33 players getting to that mark for any boss at 3% damage needed. I say hard cap because it fails to account for players doing far more damage than that.

Let's use a Vvardenfel boss for a real example: Queen's Consort.

She has 2.6M health. So 3% of that is 78,000 damage. From personal experience these last few days, I can sit there and fire off 5 heavy attacks before she dies. Average final tick of each heavy attack is 30-40K damage. Plus my pets are doing there thing, plus my companion is doing her thing, plus I am weaving in some dots. Sometimes I've got an ult thrown in for good measure. Let's be conservative though and say I am probably doing 30k DPS over 5 seconds on the boss. Well, that is 150K damage, so right away that cap is lowered because it will be impossible for 33 players to do 3% damage. This is conservative though, I know this build parses 50-80K without any ramp up required. And other players are doing this too.

Essentially, it all adds up fairly quickly, and top 12, or even top 10 DPSers wouldn't be surprising on some bosses. Especially ones that are being preloaded with ultimates and are stationary.

Like the geyser bosses. They last 3 ish seconds. I found that the above heavy attack build wasn't getting drops yesterday. Even with a destro ult drop. So, I switched to overload, and was able to get a drop on every single geyser I went to. Watching my overload heavy attacks hitting for 30K ticks, with 45-50K crits. Per second. Reef hammer has 1.8M health, so me doing 100-150K damage in 3 seconds is pretty much eliminating 3 other players from a drop even at only 3% damage cap.

    An anniversary event!
I had an idea that it should be fun and cosy.
I didn't think fishing was pleasant and spending 18 hours from Friday to Sunday fishing without getting a style page is more than brain-dead sick.
Once again their crap is not thought through or tested.
Zenimax can stop their style page where the sun doesn't shine.
In my opinion, it is brain-dead sick and incredibly poorly thought out.

Be patient. I got everything in one day.

Not everyone can sit there and mindlessly grind away after doing nothing but mindlessly grind at their job for 40 hours a week minimum.

While the idea of these new styles is great, having them tethered to the event is not the best.

An anniversary event should celebrate all aspects of ESO, and reward players for their favorite activities rather than force them into the worst aspects of the game.

I worked 40 hours this week, watched my kids, and still found time to get the style pages. One just has to want them.

Just because you got lucky doesn’t meant the rest of the world is.

I've been on this site since 2015 and this is the most useless comment that I've seen in all those years. It doesn't matter how much you want an item to drop when rubbish RNG and low drop rates are involved. I am sitting at 4 of 5 pages and just need the Sunna'rah staff and no matter how much I want that style page to drop, it will only drop if and when it drops. Maybe it will be the next kill and maybe it will be 500 kills from now. Introducing the style pages for the anniversary event is a win. Poor implementation is an absolute loss.

There's a very good chance there's going to be people who, in spite of actively farming them for hours/days at a time, may not actually get their pages before the end of the event. And there is no guarantee these things will be available next year or in the future.

    That bothers me.

I spent several hours doing dolmens in both Auridon and Deshaan. No drops.

I've spent at least part of three days and counting...at least 12-13 hours total so far...farming Vvardenfell bosses. I've gotten one of the two drops.

I haven't even tried geysers yet and I'm absolutely dreading it.

Conversely, I spent 15 minutes fishing and got the sword skin. Which is how they ALL should be.

This is WAY out of whack for what's supposed to be a celebration event. Instead, it disrupts my gaming routine and creates frustration to the point that it's starting to affect my mental health, and I'm certain I'm not the only one feeling that way.

    Note:

When it comes to the five rare gold style pages... the worst ones are the ones from Vvardenfell World Bosses.

Geysers? They don't drop from the final boss, which requires you to pass a threshold because you're competing against other players (regardless of whether it's "3%" or "top 12 damagers"). They drop from the shell. If you fail to get the loot from the actual boss, what you're missing is a purple box, and you could already guarantee more of those than you'll ever need - 7 per character in 5 minutes for crafting writs for starters. All you need to do is pretty much hit *something* once, even if by accident, and you're in on the shell loot.

Dolmens? Ditto. Doesn't really matter if you fail to get enough damage in on the boss so long as you hit *something* once. Even simply being there may be enough. But you get access to the dolmen chest. Alikr, Auridon, Deshaan, even Shadowfen all work pretty well. Don't even bother trying in Greenshade because of that southwestern dolmen you have to swim to, or Malabal Tor because there's no wayshrine on the north coast.

Fishing? You can get it from any fishing hole and there are so many fishing holes that you don't have to go where the players are (unless you want the extra bonuses from fishing such as recipes and antiquities from Artaeum, antiquities from foul in Murkmire and Clockwork, Pyandonean recipes from Summerset.)

World Bosses, though? You're out of luck. They drop from the boss, and if there's 30 players there and only 12 get loot at all, you gotta wait for respawn. Because they only respawn at a certain rate. You *might* get lucky at being able to run between two (three is probably too many given that you've got to run between the boss and the wayshrine in both directions).

And there's TWO pages from the same source (Vvardenfell WBs). From the worst of the sources.

    Out of the WBs:

Missir-Dadalit Eggmine is the worst during most of the day. Close to a very central wayshrine, it gets camped heavily and is easy to miss out on the loot.

Songbird: This might be surprisingly manageable. A lead time every time it spawns thanks to the opening trash fight, and not everybody has bothered to get the Tel Branora wayshrine (there is no fast travel there, and it's very much out of the way.)

Wuyuvus: Seems to be avoided even during peak times. Sometimes disappears without even being killed. Everybody hates its mechanics.

Nilthog: A little far from the wayshrine but one of the easiest to kill, so fairly popular.

Salothan Council: Awful in small numbers because of how hard the *several* enemies hit, but their Health is split among them, and they go down in a flash if there's a group here.

Dubdil Alar: An oddity in that the final loot comes from a chest, not from the most powerful monster (who in fact drops nothing at all). Does this loot chest work along WB / Dolmen Boss / Geyser boss lines in that it only goes to the top 12 damagers, or does it work along Dolmen Chest / Geyser Shell lines in that everybody gets it so long as you hit something at least once? If it's the latter, and EVERYBODY gets into the boss chest, then this could be the best WB of all to sit and camp at. It takes longer to reset than others though, because of the opening trash fight and the final coda which requires the rift portal to be closed, and the reset time being counted from when the actual boss chest appears after closing the rift portal.

Also, does it have mechanic common to many other gold style-page drops, wherein only one can be got during a given 24-hour period, or are there people who have got 2 or more of these during one real-time day?

A lot of people saying the pages should not be bound. I strongly disagree. I think they actually NEED to be bound.

Think about it. As long as they're bound, and not sellable, once a player gets it, they no longer need to put up with the geysers/dolmens/vvardenfell anymore. They can move on to the rest of Tamriel to get boxes from a virtual plethora of sources at a much better rate than WB's and Geysers. Eventually the crowds will thin out at the world events and world bosses because this event lasts 20 days.

Make them tradeable, and that hoard of farmers will never leave. And buying them lessens the value of the item to the point that nobody really cares if you have the style or not.

This event is the opposite of fun for people trying to farm the limited time style pages. And Cyrodiil is suffering rollbacks and disconnects about every 20 minutes at the same time, so no reason to PvP this event so far either.

I think you don't understand. Many players, like me, don't enjoy grinding. I really hate it and I prefer to not do the same thing over and over again. I prefer to do different things during my play time. Anyway, I totally understand that some players enjoy grinding and collecting stuff for trade. So, it's great to have those choices.

By making items bound, it'll ruin the game for all players. Those who enjoy grinding and trading, will get nothing, and those who prefer to play different stuff and buy later those items, will get nothing also.

It's a lose lose situation. So, I really don't get your point.

I got the Staff of Worms after 34 dolmens and it appears I'm an outlier. Not because that's exceedingly bad, but because it's uncharacteristically "lucky". 70 geysers and no Ul'vor. I did get lottery-level luck with Sunna'rah, as it dropped on the second WB yesterday, but judging by how long people remained at the boss I camped, that's an extreme outlier. Meanwhile, 31 WBs today and probably around 10 on Friday and no Barbas. The only upsides of failing to get the helm is it's far less tiresome to camp a boss, I get to watch videos and actually grab event boxes, unlike in geysers (because I can never do enough damage).

I can't speak for others, but my idea when trying to farm these pages now is to get them out of the way so I can enjoy the event later. It's not impatience. Of course, getting them out of the way is proving to be a challenge.

i got the staff of worms in like 13 dolmens lol, geysers werent as lucky as dolmens (~2 hours of farming those + 3 geysers on sunday to get the drop)

but RNGesus made up for it by not giving me the barbas helmet for 17 hours of WB camping, and was killing those WB on respawn (assuming 5 min per boss would have been ~200 WB kills to get the barbas helm for me)

from the anecdotal thread on the drops, the fishing one seems to be generally the best drop rate, and the other ones are all over the place for how lucky people get
    • fishing is easier because it has the largest number of chances per minute (you can do something like 5-10 casts per minute)
    • dolmens are a little better because theres several zones where the dolmens are close to the shrines, but theres still the travel time + complete time per dolmen (i would probably estimate 1 dolmen is cleared every 1-2 minutes)
    • geysers are like dolmens, but longer travel times and take longer to complete (estimate your only clearing 1 geyser every 3-5 minutes)
    • WB have the 3 min cooldown on loot, so that at a minimum is 1 WB every 3 minutes, but could potentially be longer if your camping a single WB vs traveling to get to another one

the if the drop rate was say 2%, statistically the fishing one will be the easiest to get the drop from due to more chances in shorter time period, but will be on the mercy of RNG for the other methods

Well... Not really like dolmens, geysers are absolutely horrendous to play in every way. The ping on dolmens even with a lot of players are usually around 100 to 150, which is perfectly fine. On geysers the ping is permanently above 999. You can't see anything, everything stops and then you see all in a different place, but there's no animation, just pieces jumping places. It's really horrible. And in the end you'll never get any reward unlike dolmens.

I think that all rewards should be spread all over Tamriel (like the fishing one) and not stuck on one single zone. That was a bad idea. It's chaotic and not fun.

It's chaotic and not fun.

i never experienced that kind of problem, on either dolmens or geysers lol

the only problem i saw on geysers was the boss would regularly sometimes be disintegrated before it even rendered, but i had no actual lag or any other issue

It's a new problem. It only started with this event.

There are always above 20 or 30 players on geysers, even right now at night. And the servers clearly don't support this number of players at once in the same zone. So, while the geyser is on the ping rises above 999. Many times I'm even removed from the server while trying to play it. But right after it ends, after all players leave, the ping returns to 100. It's only when there are dozens of players there. You can test it now. I'm on PC EU.

i know, thats what im talking about, i spent 2 hours farming geysers day 1 of the event with 30+ people there and i had only slightly FPS drops, but no ping spikes or lag

im on PC NA if that makes a difference
