I'm pleasantly surprised that it seems like it will be combat oriented. I didn't think they'd actually do something exciting with it, but now it seems like it will be something pretty cool. I'm cautiously optimistic!

It sounds great to me—individualizing some of my skills in various ways should be a lot of fun, especially for those of us who love to find creative ways to do things. The new zone looks beautiful, too. I love the autumn colors.

Looks like it is indeed a form of spell crafting, although rather limited (based on first impressions).

Depending on how it's implemented, it could be a really nice feature to have. Have to see the implementation first, been burnt too many times by ideas that were amazing on paper, but the implementation left so much to be desired to let myself get too hyped just yet.

WE WON , also does this mean as a new feature every year they will add new stuff to it for future chapters?? I imagine that increases the value by a LOT if it means everyone gets new abilities to play with

I wouldn't cry victory completely until we see it in full on the PTS.

Also this isn't full on spell crafting, as we wanted. It's new skills with pick and choose morphs.

Let's see how things are unlocked and changed and farmed before we completely celebrate.

The details matter in this case.

    What . . . on earth . . .

This looks absolutely incredible. I'm so beyond excited! Looks like a lot of effort went into this & it looks like complete customization of a variety of gameplay types! Excited to test it out on the PTS!

So I understand being pessimistic due to ZOS’s track record, and I get that! I have it to…but some people seem to be complaining just from the announcement material itself…I hope you all have fresh Kleenex tissues available nearby.

    scribing ...

... seems better than: ToT (but what doesn't?)

... and maybe the same as: companions and a new skill line

... but not as good as: a new class

i'll probably buy the new chapter, but i was a bit annoyed with necrom and swore it'd be the last to buy. guess i got over it

Correct me if I'm wrong, but based on what I heard, Scribing will not work for any CLASS skills; I heard weapon skills and guild skills. So any class that mostly focuses on class skills will not benefit from Scribing.

It will not be mandatory. It’s a DLC addition, so you need the DLC to even get it. Furthermore, you’re an overlander, no? Nothing’s mandatory in overland except for the ground you walk on. Only time anything’s ever mandatory is a very meta group comp in PvE and assumably PvP. Not even just meta, because I’ve run with “meta people” before and there’s no trouble as long as you can fufill your role. Only super optimized scorepushing or ball groups would make this mandatory.

It doesn't sound like it's "spellcrafting" as outlined back when. It actually sounds like a LOT of fun! Really looking forward to Scribing.

Ah, I apologize. But still, the rest of the argument is true. As long as you’re fufilling your role, there is no need to interact with the system at all. Even if it seems mandatory, it probably isn’t.

No need for apologies. And I hope that it not being mandatory for having a good build is true.

I have been guilty in the past of judging new features before trying them, then proving myself wrong with my first impression. But I know that setting up builds and gearing my characters etc. is something I really dislike and only do it so I can be more successful. So I would be shocked if I found this fun.

This year, we’re getting Dungeons, Trials, a new PvP system, a Quality of Life patch and…

    SPELLCRAFTING!!!!
    Scribing?…

    After ten years, finally.

    What . . . on earth . . .

This looks absolutely incredible. I'm so beyond excited! Looks like a lot of effort went into this & it looks like complete customization of a variety of gameplay types! Excited to test it out on the PTS!

I change my character's gear and skills every approximately 2-7 minutes when I'm raiding LOL.

If all you do is casual content you don't need to change anything. You have nothing to worry about.

I might be wrong, but on the Showcase, they said that it will be 1 skill for every Weapon Skill type.... so that means 6 skills ?
There will be probably also Scribing skill line that will consists of only passives.

I also do wonder if it will work similarly to the scrapped ideas they showed years ago when they teased Spellcrafing. The Original system they showed back in the day had effects, but you needed to "learn" the effect yourself, by finding it via various activities.

I looks to me like this might be the case and it is something that I would not like to see. Last thing we need is if they would add most powerful effects to drop from the most inaccessible & toxic content like IC or ToT matches. Yikes !

I am impressed that Scribing does seem to be a form of skill crafting. I'll be awaiting the details and caveats before giving it praise of course, but I am optimistic for the first time in many years.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like Scribing will be new Skills that will be added to existing Weapon Skill lines. These new Skills will basically be customizable with the Scribing mechanic, but EXISTING Weapon Skills will be untouched by Scribbing.

For instance, more or less, there will be a new Bow Skill that is Scribbable:
Shoot an arrow at the ground, dealing X damage. Then, jump backwards performing Y action. At the end of the jump, gain Z buff.

So, how are they going to balance it so that stock Weapon Skills won't be just totally ignored going forward as players stop using stock Skills and just opt to use these new Scribbable Weapon Skills? Like, it'll depend on how MANY new Scribbable Skills are added... and what effects they will have... but I worry the Stock Weapon Skills are gonna become like the base game zones, low power and old...

Well, it seems like we can't expect anything gauranteed yet, but someday they may open up this system to other skills:

("a precusor to spell crafting", is the key sentence that I'm focused on. Sounds like a "To Be Continued, maybe").
    ZOS_Kevin wrote: »
Two, scribing is designed with balance in mind. This is still an online game where you are interacting with others and working toward goals with others. The team needs a way to balance, and scribing (a precursor to spell crafting) achieves that.
