It seems ZoS top priority now is to flood the crown store with as much lazy microtransactions no matter how broken the game is and sell as much as possible before this game tanks once the new elder scrolls comes out. Balance fixes, lag fixes, core mechanics, loot drop fixes has been thrown out the window at the pace they are going. Sad to see so much potential of this game squandered. If i had millions of gold i would make my money back before it's too late.

    OP asks...

"Why must you charge us real life money for it?"

Well, see...ZoS is a business! They need to recoup the cost (and then some) of the products they make.

    Weird, eh?

And seeing as this, um, community would scream bloody murder if (or did, come to think of it) if subs were mandatory, or if they charged for anything sniffing of PTW, they're left to make money on cosmetic things like this in order to not offend your delicate sensibilities regarding, gasp, a business needing to pay the bills, its employees and keep investors happy.

I'm quite impressed at ZoS ability to provide a variety of desirable things that are NOT pay to win.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

People complained about the banker and merchant at 5K crowns each and many didnt buy them (I didnt).
Many people complained about 5K crowns for motifs and the prices of some of the costumes. The prices didnt change.

The prices didnt change on those and they wont on the race, name, appearance change either.

Its simple, if you dont like the price, dont buy.

Having no portable merchant isn't going to make somebody suffer, but having your entire minmax build screwed up because of racial change will. You can't say "don't buy it" here. A person who cares about minmaxing simply has to buy it. How many times it has to be brought up? Why is it hard to understand?

Crowns are on sale. srsly... use your intellect. I'm positive this is no coincidence. Remember when certain other massively overpriced items came out? Like banker? Guess what, crown store sale.

Seriously zeni DOES give y'all chances to get these cosmetic luxury items cheaper.

    woop, there it is.
I think we all get what we pay for, name and race changes are pricey for a reason, the appearance token is okay-ish, you can literally make yourself into a brand new character for 1k. The hair pack is usable account wide as many times as you want to iirc, so that's especially great value.

Come on, Zos! Charging us real life money to change our appearance? To charge us real life money for changing our hairstyles because were getting bored with the current style that our avatars has already? To charge us to purchase dyes? To even go as far as to charge us real life money to change our in-game names?!?!?!??!?! Wow just WOW! How low can your company go??!??!! This is coming from someone who is subscribed to ESO Plus so I'm not just asking for a free handout because I'm financially supporting you already. This does not encourage me to further financially support your company when you do stuffs like this because it's a sign of greed. Even Rockstar wouldn't go this far below in their current golden game (GTA V/Online).

Instead of charging us real life money for these why not allow us to use our gold to get a hair cut or to change our appearance? Heck back in Skyrim each time we want to change our appearance (non vampire) all we had to do is go to Riften in the The Ragged Flagon, and speak with the woman Altmer (Galathil), and give her 1000 gold each time we want to change our appearance. Why not do the same in this game? Each time we want to change our appearance we need to speak with a NPC, and give him/her 1,000 gold for each appearance change? Why must you charge us real life money for it?

This game has servers to support, in Skyrim I could type in a console command and change anything I wanted.
You are subbed, not everyone. Had the game stayed sub, you would likely have a free barber shop.

That is indeed true and for that reason alone I am not complaining about the micro-transactions that this game has. All that I'm complaining about is the lack of fairness. The fact that it cost you 1,000 crowns for 1 appearance change doesn't seem fair to me. Why does it cost that much crowns just to change my appearance? What if I wanted to change something minor to my character... like changing the color of my characters eyes.... it's going to cost me 1,000 crowns to do that? Or change my facial hair. 1,000 crowns just to do that seems tad bit expensive.

Here is a good one for a couple of you @raidentenshu_ESO and @jmgrant44ub17_ESO . Months ago, before we know about name changes coming out, I asked customer service to change my name from Torgen Gro-Tok to Torgen gro-Tok. I had not realized naming protocol for Orcs called for a lower case g instead of an upper case G. Now, that's my screw up so I expect a possible compensation requirement changing one capitalization error. My real problem with this is their response, telling me they cannot do name changes. They flat out lied to me. They had already been doing name changes. I received a forced name change due to the illiteracy of slang hijacking certain words. Why lie ZOS? How about telling me, "We do not want to give you a name change so we can charge you later for it" ... at least it's honest.

Agree with OP regarding the new appearance...
remember when Matt Firor mentioned that all content and options should be available to subscribers, without any paywalls?
I believe this is no longer in line with that philosophy.
Some will argue "altering your appearance is a luxury you should be willing to pay for"
Well then would you pay extra just to be able to wear/equip a different style of armor?
Imagine the imperial style was the only armor style you could wear regardless of stats on it,
and you'd have to pay to be able to wear any other style in the game..Same philosophy as with the new appearance
styles for the the character now.

Appearance of the character means a great deal to some player, while not so much to others..
The character is the main reason some players play the game
In my opinion ,only pure cosmetic stuff unrelated to characters, like pets, would be ok to remain crownstore-only items.
Along with the items that speed up progress ofcourse.
Which would also mean that eso plus members have to be able to acquire the exotic mounts ingame though.

So do u prefer new OPTIANAL hats, costumes, hair, or a P2W model???

And if u are eso+ u get 1500 crowns, so u can change every 2 months your appearence, with not spending additional Money.

It is not even a matter of affordable or not - it is more a matter of principle - do I want to support greed or don't I - and this is a question which comes up regardless of affordability - at least to a moral person IMO.

This said, I have changed my mind when it comes to the price of name change - I think it is very high, but then it came to mind, what if it would be cheap and people would use it to troll and grief other players with it, lots of reports would get to ZOS and GMs would have to deal with these issues. This would no longer just be a case of a database change of a name, it would actually involve action of staff, and this is far more expensive than just a database change - and so I somewhat understand the high price for name change.

And what if they also implement a cooldown of about 30 days after last change for that specific toon? I believe the price (and the situation you describe) can go down if they were to implement that functionality too.

Currently, the console version is dying. Dying between a crippled performance with invisible mobs and loading screens even during dungeons fights while Crown Store prices are introduced killing all the fun in being a customer.
The console version is fine on PS4. It might be your connection. Try turning off and unplugging your console and then never turning it on again. It might help.

It is not only me who suffers from a crippled performance on PS4.
Find yourself the dozens of complaint pages in the PS4 support section:
    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/categories/playstation-4-technical-support

Accordingly, there is a mass exodus of players of PS4, at least in Europe. Even the biggest trading guilds feel the exodus with trading plummeting to about 10% of what it was pre DB. Looking at my friends who did enjoy ESO with me for months, also only about 20% of people are currently playing, the rest moved on to PS4 titles that work.

ESO on consoles is dying. Not only because it is summer, because the latest DLC broke the game. Even after almost two months of crippled performance the devs did not release a single patch to help it. This game was so GREAT ON RELEASE. But with the accelerated introduction of all the Crown Store stuff, the console version seems more and more unable to perform it. Instead of at least introducing some usuable services now to the frustrated players to prolong the game, like free name changes (which actually do cost ZOS nothing), the new Crown Store pricing now could like to kill the game even faster.

I love this game. But I am baffled how ESO is driven into the ground on consoles.

Tbh, as an mmo vet. These prices are pretty comparable.

Well, a name change should not be an issue technically, because any decent programmer will use a UUID as internal reference to a player or character account and not his name - so the name is just a minor field in the record, if it is done in a professional way. As the names are used as links seen from the player, they are most likely held serverside in a hashmap or hashtable for O(1) access as name-UUID pairs - this is as well pretty easy to change - no big deal at all. And if the programmers have some experience, they will make it a collision- and lock-free hashmap for parallel access.

You people have no damn idea what you're saying. The biggest MMORPG on the market also charges real money for all these things, but it also has a monthly mandatory subscription fee. You should be a lot more grateful, yet you complain instead. Do a little bit of research before you talk.

If you're referring to WoW, then I don't believe WoW is doing this:
    • Constantly crashing for mysterious reasons.
    • Lagging on PC worse than GTA 4 back in those days.
    • Promising players to follow lore and do everything with care and instead roll out bootleg CROWN ONLY "Barber Shop"
    • Speaking of Barber Shop, in that game you can change haircut for in-game gold.
    • Rolling out two new dungeons for 20$
    • Having GMs as non-existent absent spices that few people seen somewhere in Dawn Era and never again since then.
    • Having PvP consisting of literally two tactics: either zergballing or screwing up those who zergball.
    • Asking 10$ for old haircuts.
    • Failing to deliver most of their promises.
    • Ignoring game breaking bugs for months.
    • Ignoring fact that people adopt engine flaws as part of combat tactics.
    • Ignoring any complaints about anything that casuals don't care about.
    • Having literally ZERO events ever.
    • Lacking anything to do except suffering through Loading Screens in Cyrodiil and grinding bosses in PvE in hopes to get RNG monster set.
    • Speaking of doing PvE, in that game you have steady progress towards getting something as you simply collect special tokens for that dungeon instead of doing same dungeon for billion times cause every time game drops you a monster gear piece that you already have and can't sell or trade.
    • Not being able to earn most of the mounts for doing special quests or achievements and not sending people to shop for everything.
    • Not having various in-game events related to summer time, Easter, winter time and so on. (Quick Note: I don't ask for events that are strictly ripping off IRL. TES universe got plenty of them: Fire Festival, New Life Festival, Heart's Day, First and Second Planting and so on. With all that said ESO has none of TES universe holidays).
    • Having to load every single zone instead of having one big, almost seamless world.
    • Feeding people with stories how everything is going to be awesome and yet failing to deliver it in time, and later rolling out a bootleg resemblance of what used to be their awesome idea they've been talking on live.
    • Lying to people like "We increase level cap to 100 but we're also gonna nerf everyone down so they'll feel like level 75"
    • Moderating forums with more attention than actually fixing game, lest people get nervous. Problem will go away if you suppress it long enough, riiight?

Oh and in that game you can buy yourself a subscription for in-game gold instead of real money.

I hope you have something to respond with. You did good research after all since you're all that loud, right?

    1. I imagine you were not at the launch of any new expansion or patch.
    2. See #1.
    3. They made lore into a mess with alternate universes and only one Burning Legion (primary antagonist organization) and instead of fixing those during the expansion they added a whole patch revolving around Twitter integration to the game and an in game selfie camera.
    4. Yes. But the game has a monthly mandatory subscription. You also have to pay real life money for other appearance changes.
    5. No, instead they roll out 6 dungeons and 2 raids for 60$ after 14 months of literally zero content.
    6. Blizzard has good customer service, yes. I haven't had any problems with ZOS customer service either though.
    7. Yes, TESO PvP is very lacking, especially the lack of dueling.
    8. See #4.
    9. Path of the Titans, Dance Studio, Karabor and Bladespire as capitals, Fields of Farahlon, Thal'Dranath...
    10. The fact that they take 14 months to add a new patch means more often than not all the present bugs take 14 months to get fixed.
    11. WoW has its counterparts to this, for example kick (interrupt) botting. Also there's an animation cancelling trick with the upcoming Demon Hunter class that is still present in the beta.
    12. Blizzard has often left threads with 500 posts (which is as many posts a thread can get in WoW forums) unanswered.
    13. Have I mentioned they often take 14 months to add any new content to the game and that most players run out of anything to do within the first month of that period?
    14. Having 14 months of literally no new content means you do the same PvE raid over and over and over... and over... and over again. Also, the latest TESO patch added the ability to trade the dungeon drops to players who were present for the kill.
    15. True, but that game has a mandatory monthly fee and a cash shop in which unique mounts are sold in addition to that, with no other way to get those mounts.
    16. When WoW first came out, the annual events were not in the game. They were added later on. Who is to say TESO will not get similar annual events later on?
    17. Yes, but a zone in WoW has much, much less detail in comparison to a zone in TESO.
    18. See #9.
    19. They implemented a stat squish to the game at the start of last expansion which made a lot of players feel like their characters were much weaker.
    20. See #12. Also, Blizzard employees only seem to truly pay attention to the USA forums of their game, whereas many threads in the singular TESO forums often get responses.

My original point stands. You people have no idea what you are talking about. You really should tone down the cynicism.

I re-roll all the time but it is getting harder to find a slot since I can't get rid of the crafters, they know all the traits/recipes and I can't move them to a new character. I also have the first character I ever made serving as a bank mule to hold mostly things I can't use yet. I took her out of service because I didn't realize that boobs and butt grew in response to clothing. I would like to fix her but not for real world money. My provisioner is mostly out of service also because she was made before I switched to the console. My Mac is very old and even then had to be set on low res to play. The wood elf looks bad on the console so she has to stay in the dark by the cook pot. I'd fix her as well but these are just minor tweaks and I just can't justify paying hard earned cash for them but a re-roll doesn't transfer all those recipes so I'm stuck.

In short, a re-roll is not equivalent to many of the minor changes people want to make even if they were willing to go through the mind numbing early stages of leveling. I recently wanted to try a templar again since I had to abandon the one I had due to ugliness. I don't like DC but I started there because I just couldn't face Khenarthi's Roost or even Bleakrock one more time. It gets harder to even contemplate a re-roll.

Another "I'm upset because a business is charging me money" post.

    They're a business.

    They need to generate revenue.

No one's forcing you to do anything.

    Don't play the game.

No duh. We all know that Zos is a business company and out to generate revenue. All that I'm asking for is to give us a certain amount of tokens to use for an appearance change. This includes Name change as well.

The problem is not that the micro transactions are a lazy way of making money but it is the way ZoS is handling the game as a whole. They put very little emphasis to things that actually make a game thrive into a higher more competitive aspect in the video game market. You can not have a game with important issues like frame rate and lag and expect money from more serious gamers. Everything you do from this point on wards weather it is new dungeons, trials, sets, balance changes, it all becomes meaningless because of frame rate and lag. I have no issue paying micro transactions since i spent over 1000 dollars on Dust 514 and Eve Online alone but the difference is that those games work, well technically worked Dust 514 is already gone. In this game the most iv'e spent is probably 60 dollars since June 2015. Meanwhile i was dishing out that kind of money every week or two in Dust 514. I find it really hard to give money to ZoS in a consistent basis because they do not deserve it.

Yeah I will admit the pricing is a bit steep.
