Yeah, but he was talking to someone throwing a tantrum in a thread about his experiences playing the game anonymously.

    Yeah, it was inevitable.

To be fair, it would be nice if there were in game ways to do full recustomization, but still, character appearance changes are the definiton of cosmetic items.

You people have no damn idea what you're saying. The biggest MMORPG on the market also charges real money for all these things, but it also has a monthly mandatory subscription fee. You should be a lot more grateful, yet you complain instead. Do a little bit of research before you talk.

Apart from the fact that the latest Crown prices are coming from pure greed.
It looks like all the new Crown Stuff is ruining the performance on consoles.
In its current state, the console version is close to being unplayable.
You could just keep all your gear and reroll a char instead. It doesn't take that long to get to level 50. [...] this thread is just toxic
Level 50 alone is useless, and you know that.
It takes months to level up all skills [Undaunted, Mages Guild etc.]
Guys like you are "toxic", using screwed arguments for defending pure company greed.

Are you really not aware of it? Currently, the console version is dying. Dying between a crippled performance with invisible mobs and loading screens even during dungeons fights while Crown Store prices are introduced killing all the fun in being a customer.

The console version is fine on PS4. It might be your connection. Try turning off and unplugging your console and then never turning it on again.

    It might help.

I guess we should be happy with the base game hair pack that costs just 1000 crowns that can be worn as wigs without needing to use the token...

And to people who are annoyed with these kind of threads - please have some compassion and perspective. We're not all millionaires, and for some it's really expensive. A race/name/appearance change would cost me 2 hours of real life work, and even though this price makes sense within MMO setting and ESO's general pricing, I will think twice before dropping money on it.

That's all - it's less affordable that we hoped it would be. Most people were ready to pay, there's no entitlement here, we just didn't expect it to be this much.

There's so many rude answers here that go into a different extreme...

Skye Cloude - Sorc DPS, Master Crafter. Main, the bestest
Lae Lenne - Templar Healer Trial grade.
Dromede - Stamina Nightblade, she's a newb and doesn't know what she's doing
V'oghatta - Stamplar pretending to be a tank
Ulville Thonvella - aspiring Fire Mage, be careful around her fire sticks!
Dromedaris - lost and not found. Named after a shoe, what else can you expect from her? A proper tank in her wildest dreams
Swims-Naked - too pretty to grind, too silly to quest.
Sun Flair - Dunmer Templar that can't spell for life. To bad she's too broke to afford a name change... Well, at least she's pretty...

It is not even a matter of affordable or not - it is more a matter of principle - do I want to support greed or don't I - and this is a question which comes up regardless of affordability - at least to a moral person IMO.

This said, I have changed my mind when it comes to the price of name change - I think it is very high, but then it came to mind, what if it would be cheap and people would use it to troll and grief other players with it, lots of reports would get to ZOS and GMs would have to deal with these issues. This would no longer just be a case of a database change of a name, it would actually involve action of staff, and this is far more expensive than just a database change - and so I somewhat understand the high price for name change.

Have any of you played another successful mmo though? High dollar for name and race changes have always been high to discrourage the option but it is always there.

Name changes are really dicey for servers and race changes can disrupt balance when the fotm crowd has their hands on it.

U dont HAVE TO buy new Hairs or costumes

And in GTA u can buy Credit Cards for real Money to get ingame money ,
So do u prefer new OPTIANAL hats, costumes, hair, or a P2W model???

And if u are eso+ u get 1500 crowns, so u can change every 2 months your appearence, with not spending additional Money.

    Im sick of these posts

    • Lacking anything to do except suffering through Loading Screens in Cyrodiil and grinding bosses in PvE in hopes to get RNG monster set.
    • Speaking of doing PvE, in that game you have steady progress towards getting something as you simply collect special tokens for that dungeon instead of doing same dungeon for billion times cause every time game drops you a monster gear piece that you already have and can't sell or trade.
    • Not being able to earn most of the mounts for doing special quests or achievements and not sending people to shop for everything.
    • Not having various in-game events related to summer time, Easter, winter time and so on. (Quick Note: I don't ask for events that are strictly ripping off IRL. TES universe got plenty of them: Fire Festival, New Life Festival, Heart's Day, First and Second Planting and so on. With all that said ESO has none of TES universe holidays).
    • Having to load every single zone instead of having one big, almost seamless world.
    • Feeding people with stories how everything is going to be awesome and yet failing to deliver it in time, and later rolling out a bootleg resemblance of what used to be their awesome idea they've been talking on live.
    • Lying to people like "We increase level cap to 100 but we're also gonna nerf everyone down so they'll feel like level 75"

Well, a name change should not be an issue technically, because any decent programmer will use a UUID as internal reference to a player or character account and not his name - so the name is just a minor field in the record, if it is done in a professional way. As the names are used as links seen from the player, they are most likely held serverside in a hashmap or hashtable for O(1) access as name-UUID pairs - this is as well pretty easy to change - no big deal at all. And if the programmers have some experience, they will make it a collision- and lock-free hashmap for parallel access.

Come on, Zos! Charging us real life money to change our appearance? To charge us real life money for changing our hairstyles because were getting bored with the current style that our avatars has already? To charge us to purchase dyes? To even go as far as to charge us real life money to change our in-game names?!?!?!??!?! Wow just WOW! How low can your company go??!??!! This is coming from someone who is subscribed to ESO Plus so I'm not just asking for a free handout because I'm financially supporting you already. This does not encourage me to further financially support your company when you do stuffs like this because it's a sign of greed. Even Rockstar wouldn't go this far below in their current golden game (GTA V/Online).

Instead of charging us real life money for these why not allow us to use our gold to get a hair cut or to change our appearance? Heck back in Skyrim each time we want to change our appearance (non vampire) all we had to do is go to Riften in the The Ragged Flagon, and speak with the woman Altmer (Galathil), and give her 1000 gold each time we want to change our appearance. Why not do the same in this game? Each time we want to change our appearance we need to speak with a NPC, and give him/her 1,000 gold for each appearance change? Why must you charge us real life money for it?

This game has servers to support, in Skyrim I could type in a console command and change anything I wanted.
You are subbed, not everyone. Had the game stayed sub, you would likely have a free barber shop.

Real world money for appearance change is not mandatory or required? Neither is appearance change mandatory.
Your dolls comparison is weak as well, as even dolls have extra outfits SOLD separately. As in pay real money to extend the appearance options.
It's not as if they don't give you a decent free amount of customization options.

That said, I will say the PRICES of many items is a bit absurd in real monetary value.

Way to completely miss the point. Context is your friend, and I even included a quote of what I replied to to help you out.

Of course appearance change is not mandatory. I'm not sure how that even crept in, but it has nothing to do with my post. I was replying to those who seemed to think the very idea of suggesting that in-game currency could be used was absurd. It's not, since other games do it or have done it. That was the point.

Putting aside that "playing dolls" was just an expression, I am not sure how weak it would have been as a real analogy. Yes, you pay more for new outfits. However, you don't have to pay money each time you want to change how you wear the clothes that came in the box. I don't have to pay if I put Mr. Potato head's ear in his nose hole, but I do need to pay if I buy that fancy new pack of creepy eyes. Have I belabored the point enough yet? :)

You appear to think that we're talking about NOT paying for new items. That is not the case in any post I have seen, and certainly not mine. We're talking about using in-game gold to alter our appearance with options that were available when we first created the character.

They give us a decent amount of free customization options? What are those? Some collectibles? A costume or two? None of those are what we are talking about when discussing an appearance change.

So you want to use your ingame gold, aka get it freely.. What did you seriously expect :) the company has to make a living, so we have the crownstore.. the new cosmetics are not an advantage or neccessity in any way, so of course you must pay for it.. The prices may be a little high, but wanting them for free is the rant of a spoiled mind

If they get too greedy, like now, people stop subscribing, because it does not feel right to give these people more money. They don't deserve it, because they try to "rob us blind". Do you make trades with people you don't trust any longer to have your best interests in mind and give you a fair win-win situation?

That is the real problem here. It's the amount they charge, not the fact that they want money for it. I can live with that, it's business.

But the name change, as example is in my personal opinion 20 to 25 times overpriced. At least my feeling about value says that to me. And that I can not accept.

If they would have sold packs with 8-12 tokens for the same price, I am certain they would have made a whole lot more sales in total - simply because pretty much everyone who buys something from the crown store at all, has minor flaws discovered on their characters (basically on all of them, if they are critical enough) and so it could be expected that all of those, who are interested in character apperance at all and buy from the crown store would have bought such a pack. And if pretty much all do that, it is much more revenue than if just a few do it and have to decide this for any of their characters again - it is by far easier to decide this for all of your characters, because at least one will have a flaw to be fixed if not several.

This would have been a clever marketing move - to sell this for the same price but as a pack of 8-12 tokens, and not just 1.

You know I would of been a lot more happier with just 8 tokens instead of 12. I would of proudly purchase the appearance change for 2,000 crowns for the total amount of 12 tokens in all.
