Tenth Anniversary Gift; Spellcrafting?

Yesterday I was completing the Mage's Guild quest line on a character that hadn't done it yet and got to Eyevea. I mentioned to a friend that I wish they would make Eyevea a fully functional town. He said he thought this was going to be the place for spellcrafting when the idea was originally considered and that it may be if they introduce it now. As much as I don't like the idea of spellcrafting, this does make sense.

Eyevea, is in my opinion, the most interesting place in ESO.

Currently it serves no purpose, it was leveraged as an exclusive area only for those who complete the Mage’s Guild, yet never had any purpose outside of the armor set crafting station for ‘Eyes of Mara’ a set that reduces the cost of Restoration Staff skills by 15%.

In my 10 years of playing, I have never seen a build utilize that set, even back when 8 trait crafters were extremely rare, I don’t recall a single request of me to craft them that set, it was always Seducer instead.

That being said, it’s very strange that the island was the driving purpose behind our quest line for the Mage’s Guild, when we’ve got absolutely nothing out of it, not even a functioning town.

I could blissfully ignore spellcrafting if it means that Eyevea becomes a real town. This is all just speculation but it would bring function to this town and make it worth completing the Mage's Guild quest chain.

Spellcrafting is the worst thing I can think of... even worse than the Endless Archive.

(Had to edit because I ended up loving the Infinite Archive.)

I came back for the infinite archive (and because of another game) and they did awesome base implementation of endless archive. I believe I would have spent 90% of my play time playing it. But it really needs a save point system and slightly better reward.
But the gameplay loop and the way they implemented it is so freaking good.
Because of no save point, I rarely play it tho but I am certain they will implement it sooner than later.

As far as spellcrafting is concern, it might be really good or really bad or something in between but no clue yet.
It sounds fun and idc about the balance. I care even less about PVP balance anymore now.

Do you understand the implications if they add this in game?

EVERYONE will be using exactly the same abilities and there won't be any class distinction.

It works on Elder Scrolls single player games, but will NOT work on MMORPG having classes distinct from each other.

And still to this day NOBODY who is pro Spellcrafting has given a damn logical argument why is needed.

I think on the contrary, spell crafting allows for a more diverse build.
Although there may be the same or similar animations, assuming that the effects of all skills can be customized according to the player's needs (similar to Alchemy), then when pursuing the same buff, we may see:
1.Sun Fire (Provides Major Savagery and Major Prophecy)
2.Daedric Curse (also for Major Savagery and Major Prophecy but this is a direct damage skill)
3.Spirit Mender (also for Major Savagery and Major Prophecy, and also provides heals)
4.Tome-Bearer's Inspiration (but provides Major Savagery and Major Prophecy)

In this way, we can adjust the effect of skills and the source of buffs according to our preferences. We can choose the sources we want: 1. dot, 2. direct damage, 3. healing skills, 4. pure buff skills

Also don’t forget, there are various Damage Types in the game (Poison Damage • Disease Damage • Bleed Damage •Flame Damage • Frost Damage • Shock Damage • Oblivion Damage)
Suppose I want to create a Disease Damage theme today. With spell creation, my choices will be very diverse. I can create one:
1.Dot and give me Major Savagery and Major Prophecy(Disease Damage)
2.Dot and give me Major Brutality and Major Sorcery’s dot(Disease Damage)
    3. Direct damage and give the target Minor Breach (Disease Damage)
    4. Skill of Restores Stamina
    5. Damage shield and give Major Expedition
Ultimate: The bear that caused Disease Damage!

And the above skills can be changed at any time. I can choose to have my direct damage skills give me Major Savagery and Major Prophecy, or have dot give the target Minor Breach. I can even switch to different Damage Types.

Considering the various skill effects we have (dot or direct, Damage Types, various weapons, shield, various buffs, etc.) this will be a rich array of Permutation and Combinations!

At this point spellcrafting would either be terribly overpowered and unbalanced or only a cosmetic change or very minor change to skills so as to not upset balance, making it mostly pointless.

    It won't work.

Earlier in this thread people were talking about how would a werewolf utilize spell crafting. They wouldn't!! You're using an ultimate! You use WW skills while in ultimate. You chose to use ultimate power over your regular rotation. It would be flagrantly stupid to give someone crafted spell damage during their ultimate.

How can there be an imbalance when everyone has the same material?
It's like playing with Lego, those with creative talents can build airplanes, castles, and dinosaurs. Others can refer to their blueprints and personalize them to their liking, such as changing colors and changing sizes.
Spell creation is a similar thing, except we run into:
    1. He has more Lego than I do! (Mom, this is obviously unfair!)
    2. I am banned from using certain types/colors of LEGO (why am I being punished)

Otherwise, everyone is on the same starting line, and the only difference is creativity.

In last years we have a lot of "standarization" for skills - for me it was making a ground for spellcrafting. I don't think it will as flexible as in single players games when you can choose different valuse for every spell in some range (for example 1-100). I think they will have static "parts" of every spell and you will just combine these parts. For example you will have fire ball with options like this:
    1. 7k damage as single target instant damage
    2. 15k damage as 10s DOT, single target
    3. 5k damage as 5 metres AOE, instant damage
    4. 8k damage as 5 metres AOE, 10s DOT

It won't be do whatever you want but just choosing from prepared set of options. More fun can be with visual settings, where you can choose elemental damage type/theme, colors, etc. This is how I see it.

It will be the main feature of the Chapter so it requires a purchase, but that argument is pretty moot. So does Warden, Necromancer, Arcanist and other combat-related stuff.

If SpellCrafting is an ALTERNATIVE to existing builds (similar to a new class or weapon), then it depends on how balanced they make these customizable spells. It's like Arcanist being "meta", but locked behind a pay wall. You can still play NB or Sorc or Warden, but the intention is to make those OTHER classes basically equal in power.

If SpellCrafting is an ADDITION to existing builds (like potions, poisons, jewelry slots, meta mythics), then its pay-to-win, requiring a DLC purchase. Players are JUST stronger with the new mechanic. Not having it just makes you worse.

Neither of us knows yet what it'll look like, but it's hard to see how they can balance it AND make it so that players without access to it are just as good. Most likely, it will be OP for the next 8 months while they sell the DLC.

I disagree. You would still be able to use Spellcrafting while transformed as a Blood Scion or as a Bone Goliath. Werewolf is only different because the transformation can be sustained, while balancing all of the individual skills to the power level of a standard class's skills — the skill cost to skill power ratio is the same as in any other skill line. And since you can sustain Werewolf form while locked into that special bar, it is effectively a subclass, or isolated playstyle that can be augmented by a select few of your class passives.

Werewolf is a playstyle, and it's not fair to gate them from being able to use new features being added to the game. The Greymoor Chapter added Mythic items, most of which to this day can still be used by players in Werewolf form. The Necrom Chapter added the Arcanist, which while it may not be the best class to play Werewolf on, it still has some class passives which work in Werewolf form. I just wish that werewolves will be able to benefit somewhat from new features being added to the game, even if they benefit from those features far less than everyone else does.

Please give us Werewolf Skill Styles (for customizing our fur color), Grimoires/Scribing skills (to fill in the holes in our builds), and Companions (to transform with).

Hah, well damn, guess Tim finally got his wish!

To be fair though, I meself am actually quite interested in how this plays out. It does feel like a good middle ground of giving a whole range of craftable skill, and limiting it to a skill per line. Should be easier to balance, though that bow skill *does* look very fun!

These Skill Styles sound super cool too, I'm all for more customization! Now we just need combat stances! And this secret Q4 PvP feature has me curious. ZoS has *never* dropped something like this before, have they? Like, nothing directly with 'PvP' in it?

In any case, I meself an highly curious and somewhat eager for this chapter. I mean, I was most likely going to grab it one way or another, buuuut it has my interest more then I suspected!
