What does it matter?
No one can do something with your @name. Your account is as secure as before the change.

I'll tell you why it matters! I'm sure I'm not the only one who has accidentally cut and pasted their password to zone chat before and I'm sure I won't be the last. With @Names now so easily seen it would only take someone a second to snag my account if it happens again.

What research have you done to claim that 90% of the people will never "opt into" the nameplate system? Please provide me with your sources. Thank you.
give me the username you're using in your e-banking. oh you wouldn't, right? i guess only r****** would.
and this here is exactly the same from a technical / security perspective (of course without the same impact).
Nah, you're wrong. I would never create a username for a game that I would be worried about other people seeing. Maybe embarrassed, but not worried. And if I chose to give you my e-banking username, you would still have to figure out what bank I used, what my password was, use it from an approved computer, know the answer to my secret questions, have access to the email it is tied to, and have access to the source that receives the access code.
Your argument is invalid.
Since you called me out on using a term, let me return the favour. How exactly was that argument "invalid"? Do you know what validity is?
(At the same time I'd much appreciate you not replying to this, I don't want this thread to be derailed).

They still need your email log-in because of two factor authentication.
Unless you're stupid enough to use the same password for ESO and your email address.

Which on one would ever do.......... right?

I'm not sure what the fuss is about. Everyone in any guild you're in can see your @ name in the guild roster 0_o
Infact quite a few people call me by my account name cause they don't know me very well other than being an account name in guild chat.

I actually prefer being called by my account name. I can tell the people who know me better because they use my account name and not name of whatever random character I happen to be playing on.

I would be pretty surprised if this was a widespread thing. Why would you be pasting your account password? I don't care whether your @name is visible or not. If you paste your password to zone chat, you drop everything and change it. Now.
Also, they would still need access to your email.
