Scrub mentality in group dungeons

I never understood why people used the scrubfinder instead of simply joining a guild.

Because sometimes it's good to poke one's head out of the bubble.

Plus, it can be fun. A chance to show newbies the ropes, and it's more challenging than a perfect-group faceroll. People like to complain about how dungeons are not challenging enough, yet many also complain about how going into a dungeon with an imperfect group isn't a faceroll and takes too long.

I pity any and all players that PUG regularly and only have tanks.

With the exception of a few specific fights (e.g., Overfiend), the incoming damage in normal dungeons is just too low to require full tanks. Whenever I get queued in as a tank on a normal dungeon, I do it in full DPS gear, with sword and board on the back bar with a taunt. I will hold aggro on the boss and keep it steady, but I'm doing DPS 90% of the time on my main bar. I'll swap to the sword-and-board bar only to block specific attacks that absolutely need to be blocked. I've tanked many nWGT runs like this.

So basically, if you DO have only tanks and PUG regularly, you are confined to normal dungeons.

In my (limited) experience, bad vet PUGs aren't as bad as bad nonvet PUGs, because you won't get many true newbies (at the very least, they've gone through the 1-50 leveling process and have more skills/passives unlocked). Though, yes, I have gotten bad vet PUGs that I've no choice to abandon. Queuing for that day's pledge usually isn't too bad. Usually.

This has been my experiences as well. In vet we may end up with a group that cant complete something because as a group we just arent good enough. In normal you might have a hard time because no one has any idea what they are doing.

But it has always been strange to me that vet dungeons usually turn out smoother and easier then a whole lot of the normals i end up in.

This is just testament to how bad the tutorial is (or lack thereof).

People are left to learn for themselves, all the while they have a wide variety of options and choices ranging from great to godawful.
Also, who needs options when you can heavy attack your way through any overland quest?

This is my experience from today:
I respond to a call for pledges in guild chat, as tank.
Only one of the group members is not from the guild, a DD.
As the three of us were in the dungeon, and the 4th (the guildie DD) said he will be right there, I decided to pull the first trash pull in Blackheart Haven.
It took two full minutes to kill them.
At which point I typed the name of the DD in chat.
And before I could even comment, he said: "I know, I know, I'm using the wrong skills. Is that what you were about to ask?"
To which I said: "You are not ready for veteran dungeons." It might have been harsh to hear, but I don't care about beating around the bush anymore.
Well, since it was mostly a guildie run, I decide to stick with the group but switch my PvE tanking gear for PvP HA DPS and slot Pierce Armor. This is what I usually do when pugging normals, it's a solo carry build.
At one boss they all wiped and I had to solo the boss due to mechanics not allowing for a res.
And it was at that point that it hit me: THIS IS NOT EVEN TODAY'S PLEDGE!
So I asked: "Why are we doing BH?"
Foreign DD said: "It's yesterday's pledge."
I asked: "Do you need the Monster helmet?"
    "No.", he said.
"So why are we doing this on veteran instead of normal?" I asked.
"I'd lose a key." he said.
"...so... you'll have 3 people waste 30 minutes of their playtime so that you can have 2 Undaunted keys?"
At this point the tension was rather tangible so I just continued to carry them through the dungeon.
From that point on I started taking notice of my DPS.
I did around 45% of group damage to bosses with my measly 11k DPS all the while tanking and self-healing.
So yeah... because of that ONE pledge that guy wasn't willing to abandon, the rest of the group lost two Keys total today.
Because I gave them an ultimatum: "Today's pledges we either do on normal or find another tank."
I may carry scrubs through one veteran dungeon, heck even through two veteran dungeons... but three is too much.

I had an interesting one.

Veteran White Gold Tower via Group Finder.

I arrive and see there is only three (no tank) so should have thought it was a bad sign.

The other DD wants to fight the boss (the adjudicator) immediately and I say to them to search for a tank.

Tank turns up and we start, im right at the boss fighting away and the tank is no where to be seen, I look out the corner of my eye and he's running around fighting adds. The healer is pretty good, the other DD dies within minutes (a level 500, with more health than me) and we wipe with me being the last to die (with boss nearly dead). The tank rage quits, then the healer goes.

We get two others, a new 500 tank and healer and the fight begins again, with the same pattern, the DD dies fast and I'm left with the boss, the tank doesn't tank but decides to fight the adds and gets locked in the cage, the healer is again good, but we go through this twice more. The tank then rages at the healer telling them to do more damage and then quits and that was that, because I left!
