Hold on a second, does this apply to if you run a pure Sorc too, and not just if you take a pet line or not for Subclassing? Is it going to make pet builds on Sorcs unviable?allochthons wrote: »I'm excited by subclassing, and have never really been worried about class identity as such. But this section of the patch notes is really concerning:
Multiple builds are based on the pet / no pet differences in the skills and passives. And this will significantly impact sorc tanks, as has been pointed out by others in the PTS Update 46 - Feedback Thread for Classes & Abilities thread.
The idea of throwing out a whole skill line if you don't use pets, which includes two important non-pet skills, is not well thought out at all.

General Skill Line: We’re removing the separation of a pet vs no pet build in this skill line now that sub-classing is here. Those who do not wish to interact with the pet gameplay can now replace this skill line as a whole. Many abilities in this skill line have been adjusted with this in mind.

So, with subclassing being the next big thing, is there any reason someone should play a pure class? Or is it your thoughts that everyone will want to subclass?
Because of the numerous subclass options now does that mean you have no plans to add new classes to the game?
It honestly all depends on how you want to play, what type of combat you enjoy, etc. I've played ESO for years and hundreds of hours (if not into the thousands), and I left because I grew bored of being locked into a single class. I have 18 alts- and it just got out of control because I stopped having fun on any of them. 'Been there, done that'. So with subclassing, it offers the ability to 'change' whenever you want- whether out of boredom or for different content. People have been asking for years for a class change token, but IMO, this is SO much better because it offers so many possibilities and options.
As far as new classes, I don't know. One of the biggest problems they have run into is that the game is built on an outdated engine that they have been having to continuously try to optimize just to bring us new content. I'm not sure they can find enough to add another class with new animations, etc... so I think in some way subclassing was their solution to this problem; just use existing animations and skills because they are already coded into the game.

Oh well, I installed PTS (took 2+ hours) and went to look at Solstice. The zone looks extremely underbaked and underwhelming, pretty much with lots of vast empty space. I haven't seen PTS of any of the other DLC releases, but isn't this supposed to be close to final, at least zone-wise?
I keep reading 'they didn't listen to us, we didn't want subclassing' and yet, players have VERY LOUDLY been asking for a 'class change token' for years. Rich even said SUBCLASSING was their solution to all the class change token requests.
IMO, I feel extremely limited by 'class identity'. It's why I left the game. I got bored of having to have upteenth many alts just to be able to do something new when I got bored... and it just sucked the enjoyment out of the game for me. Now, with subclassing, I can switch whenever I get bored. Honestly, this breathes new life into the game for me, and I'm sure a great many other players who left the game for similar reasons. I see most of the negative comments coming from long-term players who most seem absolutely against ANY change... but if ESO is going to continue and gain back lost players, this is exactly the kind of freshness they need on this, sad to say, product gone stale.

We asked for a class change token, not subclassing. This is a classic case of them doing something they think we want, but we really do not want.

No offense, but please speak for yourself. Just days before the stream I was thinking about how cool it would be to be able to take skills from other classes. I don't really care about class identity or understand why people are getting annoyed about this. Classes have never mattered in Elder Scrolls games, so why should they matter in ESO?
I feel like people are freaking out because this is something new and the breadth and variety of build possibilities hasn't been sussed out yet. It's just going to end up as yet another set of choices, and while there will absolutely be a meta, there always was anyway, so who cares?

Yes, if they didn't change a thing, then all quests should already be there, and only minor things like music might still be missing.
In general, this all doesn't sound good to me.
Can anyone say whether the new zone has interesting lore on the location, at least? I've been wondering about the background of the Altmer settlement and whether these Altmer might be descendants of the explorer, carthographer and author Topal the Pilot? Then again I'm confused because from screenshots there seem to be Ayleid ruins on the island? So far, lore said that Topal was the first mer to sail along the Southern coast of Tamriel and to meet Khajiit and Argonians.

With that being said, crafting should be further expanded.
also why aren't werewolves being buffed when everyone is getting multiclassing
I mean, not really. That's not describing any worry over what will happen, it's not prognosticating on the potential issues with the system, you're just unhappy about a change.SilverBride wrote: »SilverBride wrote: »Elvenheart wrote: »I’m honestly curious, to those who say Subclassing ruins the class identity of their characters, if you don’t swap out any skill lines how is class identity ruined for you if other players do? Do you mean it’s important to you to be able to look at another player’s character and tell what class they are by what skills they are using?
Yes it is. Class identity has been an important part of this game for 11 years. I hate to see it destroyed.
Just like I hate to see it go from the most realistic MMO I've ever played to a cartoon world full of loud bright mounts and recalls and costumes.
We don't have to use a feature to be negatively affected by it because it is all around us, and it changes the world we all live in.
But why though? Why does class identity matter? Coming from other TES games which have custom class options, I was honestly kind of surprised and disappointed to find that ESO had hard class restrictions during the beta, and I feel like this is a turn toward that more open-ended buildcraft which TES games have traditionally provided to the player.
Can you explain why you would prefer classes to remain closed? This response only seems to show dissatisfaction with change, it doesn't provide a reason why that change is bad.
I said why. "Class identity has been an important part of this game for 11 years. I hate to see it destroyed."
That is all I need to say.
"Class identity" will remain what it is now, if you choose to play the class without engaging in the subclassing system. As with overland challenge options, this system will not affect your character if you don't use it, and as we have discussed in that thread, I think it's understood that most players don't care about what other players do. So why get your feathers ruffled over it if there's not going to be a major impact to how you enjoy the game?
Honestly, I feel like some people just hate to see things change, no matter what the change actually is. Let's not grouse about something until it actually ruins our lives.

the subclassing is an amazing change. You should of done this years ago lol. Now replace the cp system with a pvp friendly specialization system and upgrade the dungeons and we really have something here! The seasons seems a bit too expensive imo. I dont feel it will sell well at that price point. It costs more than most new games.
