Every single dungeon is the same thing. Push foward through trash mobs to fight mini boss 1, 2 and final boss. Always the same set up 2 dds, 1 tank and 1 healer/dd.0 -

I would take a break (after almost 5 months off playing ESO only) with release of God of War and then probably complete Evil Within 2, but will be back by Summerset isle release. I would take a break at probably CP 400-405, Still lot of road ahead but I would get to 720.0 -

They were like most MMOs at launch, hoping their plans would match their audience. Like games such as FFXIV, when they saw what was working and what wasn't they adjusted course. If I were going to point to an MMO that nearly died at launch and used a Hail Mary to recover and thrive it would be FFXIV. No well-backed studio launches a game with a popular franchise not expecting to make adjustments. That doesn't mean ESO was dying; e.g., close to being shuttered or put on low-development F2P (like Wildstar and other games that year that were going to kill ESO).
People on many MMOs released in 2014 took to the forums to say those games were dying within weeks of their launches. It's like a hobby for some people. And even in 2018 people still say "I don't like X so ESO is dead" despite the fact that ESO, along with WoW, FFXIV, GW2, and BDO, has one of the largest populations in a market that is shrinking/changing. I have plenty of gripes with ESO and ZOS that I've been vocal about, and I've been on many breaks over the last couple of years with my playtime in this game decreasing, but there is no objective basis for the dead/dying game claim. Yes, PVE has seen better days (It was better during tamriel unlimited IMO) and yes, PVP is very much unbalanced and stank.
ZOS has been consistantly driving it's efforts toward new, overland content, because it's usually been very hit and miss about endgame content. Numerous balance changes have been made that neither side likes, in fact sometimes going against our best wishes. This has left a game that players simply dont wanna play. Now they are starting to somewhat get in gear with Summerset, but we'll see how far that lasts.
All and all, you'd be forgiven for thinking the game is dying. The audiences, the endgame guys, who mostly make up the repeat-players are alll but gone.0 -

The thing is, I've heard this and thought it might be true for AvA, yet the game still keeps going. I heard the same thing about the need to get and keep hard-core trials players/raiders since an MMO can't sustain otherwise, yet this game keeps going. I personally have been, on balance, unhappy with *many* class/combat changes since the start of 2.0, with plot-holes introduce by One Tamriel and some DLC, and so on and so on, but the game isn't designed just for me. I take it or leave it, and for a while now it's been titled much more often to "leave it". But games like WoW and FFXIV have the "older style" MMO market wrapped up, which is why ESO, BDO, GW2, etc. have to come up with their own formulas. MMORPGs are a niche market now, in competition with better single-player games with lots of DLC as well as MOBAs.
If you want to know why ESO is still humming along so well, I couldn't say; but it is, gripers on various official and unofficial forums notwithstanding. It has its niche, its audience, and ZOS is wisely building toward that audience. I think part of it though is that they know most people are part-timers in MMOs these days rather than hardcore committed. They have some stuff for long-timers but also make it easy to jump in any time and start anywhere in the game, which is great for those new to MMOs and those who split their time between games.

resdayn00✭✭✭Every single dungeon is the same thing. Push foward through trash mobs to fight mini boss 1, 2 and final boss. Always the same set up 2 dds, 1 tank and 1 healer/dd.
I'm sorry but what do you expect? Tank, healer, DDs is a common group setup used as a standard in multiple games. Bosses have fixed mechanics, just like the dungeons and trials themselves. Again, what do you expect? Adapting bosses? Dungeons fine-tuned to be challenging for even the best of groups? A dungeon meant for 4 healers? Untauntable bosses?
We have diversity in dungeons in terms of environment, enemies and boss mechanics. You have to learn every one of them in order to tackle them easily. And then, learning the mechanics =/= clearing the dungeon. Do the dungeons and trials in their hardest difficulties, do all achievements related to them, etc. It should take quite some time I guarantee. And don't tell me all mechanics are the same because that simply isn't true.
If you don't see any further development being done to the game, no new content, no players left, you can start worrying if the game is dead or not. The fact that some endgame aspects don't meet your standards has nothing to do with the game's vitality.

✭✭Population isn't down, the game appears to be quite populated to me, often so much, that I log out to play at a later time, when not that many are all over the place and I can do a quest without the enemies all dead already. So from my personal experience it is very busy and there is not an end to ESO for years to come. Maybe "end game" is a bit stale, I don'T know, because I will never get any near to it. To me ESO is enjoying the game world with mostly blue gear, a few pieces purple and for this "average guy" gameplay ESO is fine as it is. I don't care about the "elite", because those are just a few percent and guess what?- the game is mainly made for the 95%, who will not become elite anytime soon if ever. Those guys who do not consume a region within a couple of hours, which took many months to create - this is the lasting population long term.
Population is down. One day you will have all the gear and achievements you wanted. At that point you will have a good hard look at what eso has to offer. Its not pretty.
Been watching this forum since launch. Started participating a few years back. Everything thats been said has been said many many times over the years. The smarter people seemed to have left

I personally have been, on balance, unhappy with *many* class/combat changes since the start of 2.0, with plot-holes introduce by One Tamriel and some DLC, and so on and so on, but the game isn't designed just for me. I take it or leave it, and for a while now it's been titled much more often to "leave it". But games like WoW and FFXIV have the "older style" MMO market wrapped up, which is why ESO, BDO, GW2, etc. have to come up with their own formulas. MMORPGs are a niche market now, in competition with better single-player games with lots of DLC as well as MOBAs.
If you want to know why ESO is still humming along so well, I couldn't say; but it is, gripers on various official and unofficial forums notwithstanding. It has its niche, its audience, and ZOS is wisely building toward that audience. I think part of it though is that they know most people are part-timers in MMOs these days rather than hardcore committed. They have some stuff for long-timers but also make it easy to jump in any time and start anywhere in the game, which is great for those new to MMOs and those who split their time between games.

Thing is, those people who keep leaving are replaced. I just had this conversation with a friend.
The raiders are replaced with raiders who just got here and will continue to be for as long as ESO goes against the express wishes of it's players.
And thus the cycle of churn continues in every single aspect of this games audience.
Honestly, the reason it's survived is likely good budgeting and a focus on overland content.0 -

I'd argue GW2 has better Graphics and Combat, and arguably better Maps and Mechanics. I think the raids in GW2 are superior, as well. Can't speak much for the dungeons since it's been a while since I've run them. GW2 definitely has better classes and PvP. There also more to do in the open world. I feel like Dolmen are pretty much all the open world has to offer in ESO. I don't think the Lore is much better, either - at least not the way it's delivered in game (but I think MMORPGs are generally bad at delivering story content compared to single player games - so I'd just buy the single player ES games if I were interested in the Lore, personally).
I don't think this is the best MMO in every way, or even close. I think it's the best MMO for ES fans, though, the same way FFXIV (a mediocre game, IMO) is the best MMO for FF fans, so they are likely to put up with its shortcomings simply because there is no other choice for players who prefer content based no that IP on the market.
We can repeat this for countless other IP out there (Warcraft, Conan, Norrath, etc.).

As an aside. I think the developers need to write a proper native Windows Installer and stop installing Java under my Windows System directory. Not only is that dangerous (as the version of Java they use is not maintained, and can easily be used by malicious programs), but it's incredibly rude that they don't even alert the user that they're doing this.
Also, you can install Java under an application directory (aka a "private JRE"), so putting it there is simply BAD. Applications should never install components like Java under the X:\Windows\System32 - ever. A AAA game development firm shouldn't have to be told this. You think end game is bad...no one is going to magically change your mind, and it's not thier job to.
If it's really that bad for you, take out the ESO disc, put another in, and play that. Really no other option, as the format of this game isn't likely going to change much. Someone who's played for 4 years should know that.
We get it. You don't like it anymore. But it's not anyone's job to change your mind. It's not being a "ESO apologist" because I still enjoy the game and you don't. It's also not my job to tell you what else is out there.
Either keep playing something that apparently makes you miserable, or don't, but understand this...no one can argue your personal opinion, and you can't argue thiers. Not my job or anyone else's to change your mind.

That's kind of my point.
The devs for ESO have found their game's niche/audience, and even though people keep saying we can't lose the long-time hardcore PvE and PvP people, we do keep losing them, and the game chugs on. "Oh if this or that isn't changed, people will leave." Yet even when some players do leave for those reasons other people take their place. All successful MMOs evolve and find their place in the market, then adapt again (and again) as necessary. Some players are convinced though that if the game changes too much from the version they were drawn to, it must be "dying".
WoW is the premier example. It's changing again this summer as Battle for Azeroth launches, taking the lessons from prior expansions, most critically the most recent expansion, to try to match the experience with who their player-base will be over the next couple of years while also adding what is currently drawing in MMO players for other games to their own game. They did their own version of level-scaling, for example, a few months ago, but in tiers rather than universal sameness.
