I wonder if this exploit worked for treasure maps also. I normally just sell those on the trader, and they take a few days to sell. Yesterday I had 4 or 5 for sale, and they all sold at once.

Economies in MMO's are so fragile. If anything happens it effects 100% of the player base. This exploit was potentially economy breaking, so whether you like it or not, it was in the players best interest to fix asap.

If you have the data of the exploiters as stated by @ZOS_GinaBruno it doesn't matter. Make a warning in game (for everyone to read), patch the game in the evening (of the time zone the players are from), take action against the exploiters (temporary ban / delete the items) -> problem solved.

What you are doing is simply looking for an excuse of their wrong approach.

This combined with the overall bad state of the game (look for the bug threads and the history of exploits / bugs) this is nothing more than another bad joke.

Think of the bigger picture. They sell loads of exploited stuff to innocent players etc.....the ripple effect. Makes it harder to contain the longer its left.

who cares about some cheap sold gold materials? does that hurt the innocent players no? Simply let them buy it cheap. seriously, who the hell cares?
you know how easy it is to get all that stuff, right? I'm mainly a pvp player sitting on ~4m and like 100 of each gold upgrade mat (without abusing game mechanics, besides i would never pay for a assistant as I'm not going to shove any money to zos until they fix their game). If you struggle paying for those mats, enjoy buying them cheaper for the next, let's say, 8 hours until it is fixed. no harm done.

Again you have no concept of market fixing or economies. If a few people flood the market and buy all normal priced gold mats, you think they will resell them cheap??

    But you do of course.

the exploiters need money to buy all items. so either they already have the money (and the exploit doesn't matter) or they get the money by selling the items cheaper, which isn't feasible, especially when everyone knows about the exploit and could get their items as well.

And anyway, if (temporarily) banned and items destroyed / removed, the above issue is fixed anyway.

Sorry, but this is just nonsense.

We will have to agree to disagree, but being as I have a masters in economics i'll stick with my theory thanks.

well, wouldn't be the first wrong interpretation / decision by anyone who studied economics ;) if there wouldn't be infinite resources, not enough money / time to buy them all and not enough players willing to pay 2x as much, I might would agree;)

No matter what time they do a hotfix someone will be upset because it's always prime time somewhere.

In the states it's working hours right now.

The sky isn't going to fall because you can't play for few hours. And then threatening to quit because you can't play... That makes no sense. Then you will never play, which is what you are complaining about in the first place. lol.

So much entitlement and whining on the forums for every little thing, every single day. If you really hate the game/company that much, quit.

In the mean time, relax, watch a movie, read a book, etc.

I applaud ZOS for getting this issue fixed pronto. They aren't always this quick to fix things...

well, aren't you just complaining as well, here on the forums? or did i miss anything.
Besides that, I haven't seen a single "i quit" comment here.

Anyway, to your comment regarding there is always prime time somewhere. You realize that it is possible to shutdown the servers at different times, right? At least other companies can handle different time zones.

A reason to applaud zos is if they would stop with their **** band-aid fixes and really fix what's wrong with the game (including 100+ bugs already documented in this forum).

Not yet because they are gathering mats, as soon as they have enough gold all gold mats in stores get bought by them and they then sell them 100/200% more expensive. They buy all mats that come up and employ same tactic.....most people buy gold mats and cant be bothered to farm for them.

To be honest though, they don't need to have thousands of gold tempers to buy out the market.

I have one of those too. With specialization on Internet Economics too, and I say you are dead wrong.

As long as anyone can gather their own mats, there is no lasting effect to this exploit. The only effect it could have is that the mats are temporarily sold very cheap so the cheaters can unload their stuff. If they then try to buy all other offers they will make the sellers of those very happy and distribute their illegitimate income very nicely.

Of course the exploit needs to be fixed, a permanent influx of mats would drive the price so low, that honest harvesters have no profit from selling any more. That is the real issue.

MMO economies are rather stable, btw. Main reason because inflation is no issue do to it not having the drawbacks it has in RL economies. That does not mean markets don't change and there are often winners and losers of those changes.

Still, the downtime is badly timed.

Nope, there wasn't a good reason to took the servers down during prime time. Not for this.

There would have been many better reasons to hot fix something and they didn't.
