Console text chat discussion

It's really frustrating to not be able to communicate well with people. Even the quick chat can be useless if the other player's camera is not facing your direction.
Just give us the option, please! We are completely missing out on the great potential of roleplay and community that ESO provides.

    Cancelled my subscription today.

I still enjoy playing the game, but it really is a single player experience for me now as:
    • All of my friends have left due to no text chat.
    • There is no roleplay due to no text chat.
    • I can't find a group to run multiplayer content due to no text chat.

Since it's a single player game, I see no reason to pay a monthly sub; I don't pay one for Witcher 3. I really wanted to support this game, but it's just not worth it for me.

agreed it's so amazing, how incompetent developers are these days.

Look at the ridiculous excuses the developers gave on Reddit.

So you PM me and ask for info...I begin sharing and you cut me off with an ALL caps reply cause you were and are too lazy to read. Are there more, yes but it's not worth anyone's time to pull an off topic conversation off this thread and then for you to decide to tag me and leave out that you didn't even read the first links.

Then ask me to go to another forum to name shame ppl....cmon man

Prob haven't bothered to read up on older threads I shared with you on this same topic

You've closed your eyes and ears to anything that doesn't agree with your opinion and are quick to side with anyone who seemingly supports your opinion.

What's so hard about seeing people who don't want voice chat at all.
    Is it unbelievable...?

AND the reality of it all, while playing tonight I have literally 4 ppl come up and say. oooohhhhh. It's NewBlacksmurf!!

I'm reading your stuff on the forums about text chat...you're right man, keep it up and don't let them get to you.

There are people who don't feel the need to post but do read these topics and some agree with you while others agree with my position.
Then there are those, like the group I just joined in the grouping tool that do not use voice chat or party chat but respond to my PM when I ask them to party or voice chat saying...nah bro. I just play, don't want to chat sry

So, what is your idea of an anti-text post? you wont say who and when, so generalize a quote.

the simple truth is you keep saying things that you simply do not back up.

What is my idea of an anti-text post...is that a typo?

Let's assume you're asking what defines anti-voice chat.

A: Players who will utilize voice chat only if it's the only choice but otherwise want text chat and if added will default to text chat as this is their preferred method of in-game communication.

This also is a group who will party chat outside of the game but for in-game their primary method of cummunication is text chat.
This group also has those who play this game solo only and do not wish to talk to anyone via voice chat or text chat.

People who do not like or want to use voice chat or who often times say they feel forced to use voice chat because they would rather text chat primarily or all the time.

You're asking me to name and specifically identify ppl
That type of comment can fall into name shaming. Which happens to against the code of conduct...I have generalized because that is allowed in the code and I began sharing threads that involve conversations about ppl who are anti voice chat.

Secondly...naming or providing you with a list does nothing but throw those people under the rug for some thread they don't want to be a part of.
And again as I've wrote now a few times...please specify exactly what it is you're claiming that I can't back up.
The majority of my comments were from ESO live information...

How about this...to make it easy on you...cite what specific things I'm saying that are wrong and please feel free to cite proof.

I feel that I've provided information...real info from either the company or from in-game experiences and forum threads that support my opinions. I've also comments in that opinion with facts from Zenimax.

From you, all I see is an opinion based on a small group of other opinions where you're then claiming that that small sample size somehow is a majority and that's why your opinion should be addressed by Zenimax in this thread even tho it's been addressed a few times on ZOS live.

There are way to many things about no text chat popping up all over the web recently. Just have enter in google and its everywhere...

So its not only a few of us that want it, With out proper stats id go as far as guesstimate probably about 75% of the player base are OK with it or are all for it.
25% are probably casuals that would be fine once implemented, I bet everyone would use it tbh...

    Yes even you NewBlacksmurf.

I'm still having a hard time understanding why you are so adamant at arguing with everyone on here about it.

You don't have to use it if its implemented (but I bet you will)

Why are you unable to comprehend this thread?

People have given plenty of reasons pro text chat, and alot of people only give negatives to the voice just look through this thread or google it..

    quoted from first site googled....

    ""CONS

    No chat box
Perhaps it’s because I am a PC gamer and have played so many MMOs, but the lack of a chatbox in the console version of the game seems a bit odd to me. With voice chat being integrated into the game, I can’t say that this is a deal-breaker for me, but I will certainly miss it.

    Integrated voice chat
I included integrated voice chat as a pro for the game, but it’s also a con. My first experience with integrated voice chat was in APB, and it was horrendous. Proximity chat was full of children swearing and saying vile things to each other. Then in DC Universe Online, the proximity chat was super sensitive and didn’t function very well at all. I’m not totally against proximity chat because I think it could actually be helpful in some cases. I’m just really happy that we will be able to toggle it off.

As you can see, the major differences in the platforms come in the form of UI elements, which is an amazing feat when you consider how botched some other console ports have been. Although I can’t definitively say that you should buy one version over another, I hope that my list of pros and cons help you decide for yourself.""

GO and google and come back with anything against text chat that's legitimate.....

I may not have said so in this particular thread but why I don't want it because of what comes with it.
    -text wall of spam
-more spammers (they are here but I don't have to deal with the text chat making it easier for them to target players
    -trade wall of text
    -gold sellers
    -the arguments and stupid conversations
    -the spamming LFG...
    -the spamming Guild recruiting...
-the spamming of WTB or WTS....
-ANd the biggest one of all...miscommunication which is more than present in the forums and on PC text chat. Compared to voice chat, it's a poor option to resolve greater issues.

Those are a few examples and the obvious...I don't want more crap on my screen.
Right now what's on my screen is the compass. That's it
The health, magic and stam bars come up in battle but that's it.

I like it that way and the voice chat pop-ups are very minor.

Adding another box, screen or whatever in-game so that ppl can see something on their screen where all are possible in another way without adding text chat (to some extent) are a few reasons why I don't want it.

Now as for as why it's not needed...
-The current forms of communication allow us to do everything that we "need" to do.
It does drive different behaviors and cause people to move around more. It allows a real dog of war, and creates reason to travel about to find, meet and explore each day.

LFG and trading, guilds and friends all work different than PC in this current form and it's good.
It's very similar to what other console games play like.

I understand many people for whatever reason define game genre by UI as feel the UI is needed in order to truly define the game genre but that's a misconception that has hurt the MMORPG game type.

What Zenimax has done works and works well for console.
I'm not suggesting other changes and tweaks aren't needed or wouldn't be welcomed but text chat isn't "needed".
As I read over different comments and complaints that draw reason or opinions for some to add text chat, in some cases it's pointing out that something else in the game needs to be fixed, changed or adjusted.

I hope that helps you gather where I'm coming from

Im sure text would be optional...

Define optional in context to gameplay.
If player 1 uses text chat and disables voice chat...
Player 2 disables text chat and uses voice chat...

Then we've only created another issue that adding text chat didn't solve but rather creates another issue that will require yet another added feature.

When ppl say "it will or it should be optional" that comment doesn't come off as you intend it to.

You think you're saying...if ppl want to use all, none or one or the other given them options and freedom so no one feels forced.

What you're actually saying is...give people options and freedom but I don't have a solution for the realities that such a change create.

Honestly...the console would need to support some sort of combo mouse, keyboard and controller with voice chat which brings us all back to what PC offers.

This is why I continue to suggest ppl to go back to PC
Such a change starts and snowball of other changes...it's a console game.
By design it's suppose to have limitations and force certain behaviors. That's by design

Your last statement and argument goes out the window with DCUO, FFXIV. Hell, even FFXI on PS2 in 2002 had text chat. Consoles need text chat for communication if you want it to be an MMO. Agreed PC has a lot more details and should have a lot more options. But text chat from an MMO is ridiculous, and you sir are one of those tired PC players that instead of listening to reason, ate trying to convince everyone to jump to PC, when in today's world, PC is not the future, and everyone knows it.

Actually it doesn't go out the window.
Those games do not function and work like this does.
This is the only MMORPG game on console that plays like a console game.

Those others play like a PC port and have limitations OR have the necessity of a keyboard and or mouse to pull off their functionality
This was already discussed to the point of no end in the same topic weeks ago

Wrong, it doesn't play like Console Games, Console Games has never been just about Voice Chat. Back in PS2 ONLINE games were all Keyboard.
no you are wrong completely do you even play online consoles games they all use voice chat as their primary and only form of communication reallyif you don't know what your talking about please stay out of the conversation. The last two generations have been only voice chat saved a less then a handful of games.

Absolutely not, you really should read your own comments.

Yes I play online Have been gaming since PSone era, Again Console GAMES have never just been about Voice Chat.

yes VOIP is the dominant form but not in MMORPG's for many reasons. VoIP is dominated in FPS and many other ACTION and or FPS based games, You don't need Text Chat in a competitive FPS. Although I would argue WOULD be Really nice to have, in fact most console games SHOULD.

Those less then a handful of games were all MMORPG's and they were still in there for a reason. BECAUSE It's needed.

You clearly have little clue to what you're talking about and you're telling others to stay out of the conversation LOL.

Text Chat is also NOT AN outdated form of communication like you suggest, people TEXT chat all the time and still do, it will NEVER be an out of date form of Communication.

Finally some is seeing it..... Not this is my opinion but if you are coming from PC why not go back to PC? Is it because you have such an advantage that you choose to stay on console? I was a console player from the beginning and only brought a laptop a
Because I couldn't wait another year to play ESO on console some of you are taking away valuable time and energy that could be used to improve the content. Why not help try to solve them. Without adding more problems

The same reason of why you played on PC is why I played on PC, but now I am on console where I always truly wanted to be but I still want text chat to come to consoles. If think that voice only is creating a split in the community. Some many people use party chat and not game. Many people only sit in guild chat making it so the only communicate with a few people, and area chat has turned into people talking over each other to sell things. I like to think no one will stop using area chat and text will be there only to help people be better connected. Text is not a replacement for voice it is just a tool that can help the community grow closer together.

What you all don't get is that Adding text chat will split the. Community even father. It's crazy why can't any of you see that. You talking about not wanting to split the community and buildings one up but your trying to destroy the. Community yourself by splitting it up even more.

We just have different views. You believe it will split it more, I believe it will bring it closer together. Don't know if we can get past this one we just see it different.
I agree we see it differently the biggest problem in my eyes that will split the community is that the casual player is just playing because they played skyrim will not use it and will sooner or later leave because Their no community because of the split.I say we build up the community with what we have until the add it if they ever add it as it is now we are not helping the community by separating ourselves from it we are.weakening it.

Casuals will leave in VR levels I guarantee it.. So its irrelevant. The problems with group finder and communication will get them at end game..

That's not true, WoW and FFXIV are still doing very well. You know why? because they can please the Hardcores and Casuals at the same time, something this game fails to do.

That's completely true this goes to show you haven't played a MMO before and I never said any company wasn't doing well this makes me think your nolt even reading my post dude.Just because your not please doesn't mean other hardcore MMO players are not pleased.Name a MMO in the last ten years I played I even played that weird Pirate Disney MMO with my younger brother. You Please the casuals first then the hardcore gamers.Sometimes no matter what you do the hardcore fans are still angry so most developers try to keep the casuals enagage and having fun.Like at Swtor people said it would die in a year they buckled down and help out the casuals to make sure they keep the money rolling in and then with that the focused on the hardcore gamers. Also you know why FFXIV is doing well us because they released the games on PS4/PS3.That's what's keeping that game afloat.

What you all don't get is that Adding text chat will split the. Community even father. It's crazy why can't any of you see that. You talking about not wanting to split the community and buildings one up but your trying to destroy the. Community yourself by splitting it up even more.
    How so?

Other console MMOs have voice and text with no issues. The community isn't split. Well...not along voice / text lines anyway.

Currently you'd probably find about two groups of people in ESO: those who use voice and those who don't (i.e. they leave area channels as soon as they log in). I'm mostly in the latter camp myself.

I ran a dungeon (low level) the other day - I had my mic on, but muted.....nobody said anything! Not a damn thing. It did take an hour or so for the queue to pop....a LFG channel would've probably solved that issue before it even happened.

The game as it is now is already split those games they were not since they haD it since the start of the game their would be no split.Since the game did not come with it their a split in the community ones that use voice with no problems and like it and those or do not and those who don't want to talk at all..If they implemented it at the start it would be no problem since it wasn't their a problem do you see what I mean. Its like a experiment where if you don't add your materials the right way you won't get the desire results they didn't Mix the matures correctly and no they have unfavorable results.Where even if they add it it's to late.Their a split and a wound that might not never be fixed.

LOL you haven't had ONE good argument since you came here, the whole community is splitting is pure BS, again it's just Discrimination that you don't want Text Chat.

Your just a troll really you haven't had a argument at all since you came here just repeating what someone else said try thinking for yourself I heards it's good for you.If you knew what you were talking about splitting a community kills games but since you don't it's like talking to a brick wall who will just keep repeating what another person said.

Wrong I keep repeating MY arguments because you don't listen. Repeating other peoples arguments? LOL guess what it's because my reasons align with other peoples and I agree with what they're saying.

Again it doesn't SPLIT communities, you have absolutely NO proof of that let alone the fact that you claim Text Chat split communities is HILARIOUS and really show's you have little knowledge of MMO's.
Yes I have no knowledge of MMO name one In the last 10 years that I haven't played please name one your just a troll nothing you said been different at least I have my own argument you can have similar opinion but not basically repeat word for word what they said .

Again if you knew at all what you was talking you would know that since text chat wasn't in the original game it's more then less likely the casuals player would use it.Your a joke man really or just a lack of common sense it would seem.Would you like me to say it again for you Mr.Troll text chat wasn't in the Game at the beginning the casual gamer is much less likely to use It since they wouldn't know about it or are fine as is.Come on dude I knew thinking might make your brain hurt but you should try it .

Also am not talking about text chat splits MMO community again read my post I said adding it would split ESo community since Players didn't have the option when the game was first out so most won't use it since they won't know about it .That's how it will split the community it's not hard man please just try reading man it's good for you.

I may not have said so in this particular thread but why I don't want it because of what comes with it.

Dude read your own post again you said console games have never been about just voice chat which is completely wrong. When the majority of consoles games only use Voice chat read you own post before commenting.

Dude read your own post again you said console games have never been about just voice chat which is completely wrong. When the majority of consoles games only use Voice chat read you own post before commenting.
Wrong, Majority doesn't = JUST ABOUT Voice about.
Also this doesn't apply to MMORPG's.

it really wasn't the original game is the one released on June 9.It had no Text chat it was removed and I doubt they have the build anymore so they would have to redo the design the UI to add it.Which will more then likely cause more issues then fix if you look at Zos track record.

the simple truth is you keep saying things that you simply do not back up.

People have given plenty of reasons pro text chat, and alot of people only give negatives to the voice just look through this thread or google it..

Dude read your own post again you said console games have never been about just voice chat which is completely wrong. When the majority of consoles games only use Voice chat read you own post before commenting.
Wrong, Majority doesn't = JUST ABOUT Voice about.
Also this doesn't apply to MMORPG's.

OMg lmao dude you are cracking me up man really you just need to stop really please just stop.

sorry if facts get in the way of your terrible logic and reasoning.

An sorry your right I know I disagree with you on the implementation of text chat at this point in the game but I agree I shouldn't derail you all topics so I apologize.

No problem, it's ok to disagree. :)

Dude read your own post again you said console games have never been about just voice chat which is completely wrong. When the majority of consoles games only use Voice chat read you own post before commenting.
Wrong, Majority doesn't = JUST ABOUT Voice about.
Also this doesn't apply to MMORPG's.

OMg lmao dude you are cracking me up man really you just need to stop really please just stop.

sorry if facts get in the way of reason and logic.

To not derail the topic even more I will just leave you alone because your so call facts which are not facts and just opinions is adding nothing to this discussion.

Yes I have no knowledge of MMO name one kn the last 10 years that I haven't played please name one your just a troll nothing you said been different at least I have my own argument you can have similar opinion but not basically repeat word for word what they said .
because naming an MMO in the last 10 years is somehow a strong argument for knowledge about MMO's?

Again if you knew at all what you was talking you would know that since text chat wasn't in the original game it's more then less likely the casuals player would use it.
Text Chat is in the original game.
Your a joke man really or just a lack of common sense it would seem.
    Wow, just wow. LOL.
Would you like me to say it again for you Mr.Troll text chat wasn't in the Game at the beginning the casual gamer is much less likely to use It since they wouldn't know about it or are fine as is.Come on dude I knew thinking might make your brain hurt but you should try it .
    ahahahahah okay.
It seems I knew way more about MMO then you .It's obvious you have no knowledge of MMO or player tendency at all again your a joke man.

it really wasn't the original game is the one released on June 9.It had no Text chat it was removed and I doubt they have the build anymore so they would have to redo the design the UI to add it.Which will more then likely cause more issues then fix if you look at Zos track record.

Again just a joke man when you know what you are taking about please comeback to the forums but as it is now your a joke.

You think they have just deleted the chat box UI? I highly doubt that.
They had the basics of it before for testing early on, So it wouldn't be too hard to adapt and re add in game.

People are way too against this for no reason. VOIP has its own issues too. As people who have already stated some already dont use it for the most part due to its awkwardness and random shouting etc. So why not give other people a different outlet.

Would be awesome to just \LFG (wherever) 1m tank. would fix so many things!
or WTS ..... or WTB ....

You can honestly say that wouldn't be good!?

Also am not talking about text chat splits MMO community again read my post I said adding it would split ESo community since Players didn't have the option when the game was first out so most won't use it since they won't know about it .That's how it will split the community it's not hard man please just try reading man it's good for you.

    LOL.

To not derail the topic even more I will just leave you alone because your so call facts which are not facts and just opinions is adding nothing to this discussion.

and you would be completely wrong, I have stated facts constantly which you ignored not just opinions but Objective Opinions.

Again not to derail the thread I will not.continue with you even with you being wrong am.just going to leave it alone I ask you to do the same so this thread is not locked.

How is it derailing when I'm pointing out what you're saying is wrong about Text Chat.
