Why do you need to go to forums to find a guild? I'm in 4 and never had to ask for 1, 3 are good active ones, and 1 is pure trading guild. Why can't you scout in voice chat? It happens ALL the time in PvP. Find a good guild, talk in there, group up, and if area chat is bothering you, turn it off. Why is this so difficult for you guys? Get a personality, make friends, join up. You're already hiding behind a screen, now you want to hide you're voice too? Not sure why it's so hard for you guys to verbally communicate....madness. Maybe it's because I've never been anti social
Now ur talking about ur kid asleep next to you, got it, good point.

First things first though, fix the communication. This is an MMO console or not. I've already stated that an MMO without the ability to communicate with the "Massive" amounts of players is just a side by side single player game. I can't help anyone that I see having an issue with a puzzle.
Example: One of the very first areas for Dominion has a puzzle where you must correctly order the moon phases. Well I see a player shocking himself over and over attempting to unlock the door. Of course I would like to help. Well my 18 month old is napping next to me. I didn't want to bust out my headset and chance waking up the grump. Assuming that they aren't deaf and speak english. Well no text chat. So I'm attempting to jump and point to get their attention. Eventually I get them to activate the first one, then I ran to the second one but the player had already attemped another out of order and restarted the process. After 10 minutes of attempting to help this person, I gave up. Something that should have been as easy as "activate the moon stones 1, 3, 4, then 2 and the door will unlock" in a text chat box, was a game of ritual dancing charades in an attempt to help that pour soul. He might still be there to this day... poor guy.
I have already argued the severe Cons when it comes to the 100ft radius voice chat catastrophe. Needless to say it doesn't function as an effective social communication tool for players. Rather only is helpful if you have already filtered through forums for a guild or posted your needs for one. We all know you can't scout in game, because well... no text chat.
I understand that with text chat comes Gold Spam. Trust me, my blacklist in FFXIV is full at 200 names. It also comes with trolls and children being children. I will however take all of that with my TEXT chat box, before attempting to find a group for "group" content without it.
As for some of these arguments about Controller in one hand and keyboard in the other.... seriously?... If you don't want to use the Text chat box... don't. Keep your headset and barking animals, and screaming children, and arguing siblings, and severely horrible music coming from the other side. The rest of us with any experience in a serious MMO what-so-ever would like our communication back.

That's why you are wrong.
I don't think there are any ant text chat people here.
Just pro text app and people who think they need to clutter everyone's screen with an awful text box that no one will read from across the living room.
We need a ESO app with text functionality.
Preserve the original intent of the console version and allow the guys that really hate hearing people have an option.
I for one am happy the way it is but would be interested in a reasonably priced app.
Lol. Fair enough. You can call me Pro text app. You can call it whatever you want. Just give us a text option to reach the masses of an MMO. As far as across the room?? I know it's a console, but who actually plays across the room? Maybe a new thread for that?mrskinskull wrote: »H

Selfish people these days.
80 notifications...all from this thread. Another 10 or so while I'm playing catch up.
And nothing constructive from ZOS....just circular (and a few petty) arguments from the regulars.
Pros:
Optional text chat is not divisive in any way, shape or form.
It is not cumbersome to use text chat...even if one chooses to use a full size keyboard.
There are multiple reasons for using text - communicating with the hearing impaired, using things like Google Translate to chat with folk who do not speak English.
Finding groups.
Holding multiple conversations at once - such as a few private chats, multiple guilds, and group....all at once.
Cons:
Gold sellers.
Spamming.
The general crap one gets over voice (for example the Trade channel in DCUO is a literal cesspool).
Screen clutter (eh...debatable, didn't bother me in DCUO or FF:ARR).
But in my opinion, the pros far outweigh the cons. Hell, you trust every player to behave on mic, why not trust them to behave with text chat? Maybe limit the number of texts per minute on public channels.

This is kinda funny....equality for all doesn't fit into what you just wrote.
If a player is happy with their screen how does adding more to the screen fall into equality if they don't want it in the first place? (Lets assume if it comes there is an option to full remove this...but ZOS has a habit of not fully offering options as you use as ammunition to warrant adding text chat)
and...definition of Selfish:
(of a person, action, or motive) lacking consideration for others; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure.
I don't see potential spamming as an issue myself...but it does seem to be a recurring con from the folk arguing* against text chat.
Lmao spamming? I get spammed all the time via voice chat, just today there was a kid poorly singing over mic begging for gold so he could buy a horse. I'd much rather ignore text chat than listen to that again. Text chat doesn't jump out at you like voice chat does, a small box of text that is easily missable and ignored or 20 people yelling and being annoying over voice chat.
Text chat please , give us text chat.

* I won't call them "anti-text" - that's counter productive. Some folk want text, some don't see the need for it....all our opinions are exactly that....opinions. What works for me won't necessarily work for you, and labeling each other causes more problems than it's worth.

I learned to talk before I learned to type.
Not to mention that you can selectively ignore text chat but still continue conversations with others. Can't do that in area if I leave area chat.
Exactly, the same cons for text chat can be applied to voice chat. The only difference is text chat will help the game out and boost community and communication.
You're not allowed to have text chat because the it will clutter my screen while I have it disabled.
What's the point of a toggle helmet option if I always have it on?You're not allowed to have text chat because the it will clutter my screen while I have it disabled.

I think everybody did then typing was created to avoid arseholes.
I'd rather the text chat be implemented in-game....but if the app was expanded to include access to researching and crafting I'd be throwing money at it.mrskinskull wrote: »
I was going to say the same thing about you.
Text chat on console NEEDS to be in the form of an app. Not gawdy text box.
A fringe group feels the only way to have text chat is to interrupt and annoy the interface.
Most of the pro and con crowd agree on a text app.
Its the solution that will happen.
Well....how would we know - we don't have text chat to find outmrskinskull wrote: »
So everybody in voice chat is an 'arsehole'?
There aren't 'arseholes' ever on text chat?
Not even one?

That's impossible. It's too hard to do on a console, and even if it did exist you wouldn't be able to see it from your sofa. You must be imagining things.
Not to mention would it really clutter the screen at all? You already have text showing up in the lower left screen when you loot items.

I can see everything just fine from the chair I play on.
