After last patches (1.0.6 and 1.0.7), when I'm in Cyrodiil it often freezes for 5 secs. After patch 1.0.7 i'm often disconnected ("An error has occurred" message) after 10-15 seconds of world freeze. My character is able to move and run but not to cast and other players are "petrified". Then it disconnects from the server (like a connection timeout).

This morning the problem is even worse. Constantly freezing. NPCs and scenery not appearing for even longer than before. Unable to react with certain objects (press E and nothing happens). Have had to stop playing for now. Hoping it sorts itself out later. Oh., and this is in PvE areas - haven't played PvP yet.

(playing in UK, with Virgin Media, 50mb cable: have no issues with other MMOs including Rift and Lotro - which also has a US server).

Which is caused by the distance between us and the US datacenter. There is nothing ZoS can do to change that, EXCEPT MOVE THE SERVERS!

since the update to 106-107 it's been way way worse. Somtimes FPS drops to like 5 and doesn't climb beyond 12.... for game we pay for it's a thing they should adres, and I would love to know what timeline they are setting to fix this. Please communicate more, give timepaths for something as big as this!

Since the latest patch it has become even worse. I play other games with none of these problems at all.

It's all very well having "given" us another 5 free days but if we are unable to utilise them in that we cannot play the game for more than minutes at a time what is the point. Mostly playing at low levels in PvE areas, not played PvP yet. Happens at random times, but most often when using hot keys - nowt happens when pressing or there is terrible lag. Please sort this soonest.

Packet loss sounds about right. They only plan on moving the server this month. Wonder how long they will keep characters if I choose to cancel sub until they sorted.

I am not sure why, but I have 0 problems with GRAPHIC lag. Sure, my computer is a monster and I got a regular 24/8 DSL ISP (Good one)

I live in Sweden. I even run software in the background when I play ESO like Youtube, firewall, viruskiller etc.

The lag I get is 3 places.

    1. Cyradriil, but I am pretty sure Zenimax knows the virtual servers are not enough to handle all the players there. Its a good thing! Problem can be fixed and we all smash eachother to bits! Oh, and Cyradriil "only" lags at primetime. 19:00 - 23:00 Central euro time. I guess thats where we all log on!

    2. Banking. Guildbank sometimes lag. No idea why. Click it off and click on again, then you get in. Wierd.

    3. Chat lag. This is however adressed by Zenimax and I am sure it will be fixed.

Anyone know if there is any data how many currrent accounts ESO has, and even possibly history and plan ahead? Most of the WoW nerds are gone. The really wierd people who just wanted a month of "free" play....are gone.
Feels like the game keep filling up! Awesome!

I experience lag and some strange lag effect in Cyrodil, seams all lag appear when the campaign becomes full (prime time)

    1) more people are in the same spot more lag i feel.

    2) Sometimes there is a skill lag (2 / 3 second until my click happen on the screen),
other times I feel my character movement jerky,
other times other character movement become jerky (1 / 4 sec lag, all other character teleport instead of walk, sometimes all , sometimes all except 1 or 2 people ),
other times I experience that I’m unable to cast anything, yesterday in one of various high lag moment I was able to cast “dark talons” and “ash cloud” but “shield charge” won’t working.

    3) When a large number of player appear in the screen all other except me stop moving (freeze in position like no more server communication) and my character continue to move but is unable to cast or mount, after 1 minute… disconnected, then for about 2 minutes I’m unable to login, then for 5 minute I’m unable to enter in game with the character I was playing. Yesterday this trouble happened to all my group member of 20 people except for 1 member that was far from the blob. Often the game seems to pass in the freeze state, but then after a sec or two with difficulty starts work again

    4) sometimes during battles the fps drop drastically to 9. And the game oscillates around 9 fps until I restart the client.

    5) yesterday I was feel some hard lag, like no skill cast and jerky movement in the same moment, at a certain point I saw I big video freeze with strange polygon on the screen, then the game went to 9 fps and it seemed that stop lag, but was impossible to play

Your traceroute does not show any problem, it only shows that ESO servers reject ping (and thus, tracert) requests (which can be done for security reasons but I suspect that Zeni has done this to prevent the modders from adding a custom latency display in game). This was explained in another thread. Instead of doing traceroutes you should use winMTR btw, because traceroute is only one request while winMTR can be left running, similar to "ping -t" and give you statistics over time. Still, don't put too much weight into those stats, especially when we are connecting to a server that rejects ping requests to start with :) At best it gives you an idea of the quality of the routing you're getting and gives you an idea of where your packets are travelling but you can't deduct anything about ESO servers because of the way they are set up.

Only way to know your latency atm is to use win 7/8 resource monitor.

I personally have no packet loss & 140 ms to Dallas servers (for example the Wildstar ones in previous Betas) but the game still runs like CRAP (graphical performance is excellent on the other hand, but the latency is just *** and makes pvp and high end pve stupid).

I had some times very big issues with lag ( game stopping, showing hourglass, then after 5-10 seconds starting again ), content not loading ( when it was as worst I had to log out and log in to see characters I had to interact with -- or mobs :) ). This was never a big problem during weekday daytime, but as the evening neared, it got worse and worse.

A set my graphics settings to low, but to no avail. In the end, in my desperation I changed resolution from 16?? / 12?? ( or whatever is suitable for a 24 inch screen ) to the lowest possible. I still played it in windows mode and maximised and could not really see any deterioration of what I could see onscreen, but the effect was dramatic!

All lag and problems with loading content disappeared! After playing with this setting a couple of days, I can see a little lag ( like I described above but not game-breaking ) and no problems with loading content at all.

A tip for those that can benefit from this then!

your ignorance is showing. This game does NOT have highly demanding specs. Also, latency has 0 to do with the computers specs. I have a consistant 180 ms lag during the best of times, and up to 300 at times.

    These are the requirements.

    PC Recommended System Requirements

    Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit or Windows 8 64-bit
Processor: Quad Core 2.3GHz or equivalent processor
    Memory: 4GB System RAM
Hard Disk Space: 60GB free HDD space
    Video Card: Direct X 11 compliant video card with 2GB of RAM (NVIDIA® GeForce® 560 Ti / ATI Radeon™ 6950 or better)
    Sound: DirectX compatible sound card

    PC Minimum System Requirements

    Operating System: Windows XP 32-bit
Processor: Dual Core 2.0GHz or equivalent processor
    Memory: 2GB System RAM
Hard Disk Space: 60GB free HDD space
Video Card: DirectX 9.0 compliant video card with 512MB of RAM (NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800 / ATI Radeon™ 2600 or better)
    Sound: DirectX compatible sound card

    My computer

    OS : Windows 7 64-Bit
    Processor: I7-3820 3.8GHZ
Memory : 32 GB System RAM
Hard Disk Space : 740 GB
    Video Card : GeForce GTX 690 4GB w/dx 11

My system is more than capable of playing this game, HELL I can play Battlefield 4 on ultra w/60 FPS connected to the EU servers with 9 MS LAG, again, your ignorance is showing. ALSO, my net has ZERO to do with the connection, I did a test to Texas, and I had 0%packet loss ratio. So it is NOT Packet loss, it is SIMPLY the damned distance, educate yourself please. Here, a screen shot.

    97296830.png

NOW lets look at Frankfurt, where the damned servers SHOULD and are SUPPOSED TO BE.

    97297075.png

Oh would you look at that ?! The connection MYSTICALLY GOT BETTER, oh wait, its not mystical, its physics....

My traceroute shows the average delay I have in responses which basically ranges in the 200ms area before it actually requests a Zenimax server response. The best info was posted by visualroute a few posts before mine (where I got te Zenimax IP area). That shows the packet loss with a more comprehensive system.
I just won't run it on my system as I am an anti-java person (creates tons of security holes).

And my question: Why would Zenimax deny an IP ping/latency check? Could it be because they have the EU server in the US? That's not exactly a policy that most, if not all, modern and self respecting MMOs follow.

2 types of lag one reported in the beta has a work around of alt tabbing out of the game and back into it.

bog standard server lag. Today in Cyrodiil I pressed button 2 to use bolt escape 4 times in a row. It failed to work. Then about 5s later I was rubber banded across the map and then kicked from server for sending 2 many messages in to short a period. (no idea if that's some kind of bot detection which is failing due to lag issues on the server)

It is funny how we, users, are trying to explain the developer why we lag and how to fix it. They are the ones who should have more knowledge about it, they are the ones who should be doing those tests before the game launches.

Right now their position is like this: We are aware that your latency is 200-300+ ms, that is fine. We are going to developer some codding tricks so you will feel it less.
this is impossible in a online PvP game, you have two different people playing against each other on the same continent and game server between them located very far away. In the end distance in distance.

    ISP is Ziggo,
    Region is The Netherlands,
I use cable 150Mbit/15Mbit (which according to speed tests is used 146.8Mbit/14.8Mbit)
Two systems on the LAN that both play the game, both systems just drop off for no reason whatsoever.
My last round of login error messages were a lot of 301s, 310s, 318s and some 103s. Tonight I twice got dropped off server for no reason, while for the rest at times I am unable to interact with anyone or anything. Only a log off/relog can fix that. Sometimes, as the woodworking station in Sentinel just refuses to work any further.

    1. Yes, Incident: 140421-036647
    2. ISP - PlusNet 40Mbs England, Derbyshire
    3. All the time during questing. When I press E to open a door, mining nodes or read a book nothing happens. So then I just keep mashing the E key until something does happen < Frustrating!
    4. Cyrodiil .... Don't make me laugh. I'd be dead before I logged in.

Why are you running the EU server on a Raspberry Pi??????

Your pc is too powerful for this game and you have way too much money to waste it on a pc like this.. (lol Almost same spec as mine without the 205 mb dl [wthmaaaan])

As for latency.. I don't think it is our isp/clients that are having the "actual" problem, we're just the victims.

For example, press H to mount, wait 3-5 seconds before horse appears.. or press H and push forward to see yourself in embarrassing combinations of mount movements sliding over screen until horse appears. - Video lag.

Lag around zerg.. that's video lag, not necessarily net lag, although it is 'as well' it's the inability of the client to load incoming data to your monitor as fast as it's actually moving. This can be the fault of your cpu, video cards, drivers, monitor refresh, resolution. As well as your bandwidth/isp.

Most of the "lag!! Ahhhggg" issues I've found only occur after/during loading cycle. ie exit door in cyodile. Wait a few seconds for the game to completely load, don't spam mount.. or else put up with the effects of not doing so.

Oh and having the server located in the usa.. kinda stupid calling it the eu server.. it's actually.. the "other" server.. because that's all we are to you. The rest of the world.

    Oh and Fyi

I'm in Scotland, Uk and use EE Broadband 38mbit/s
I also get some minor load lag, usually in cyrodile, but I don't pvp much.

Latterly, as shown in rubrights post. 6ms ping is pretty high really.. I'd usually expect 3-5ms max. It equates to 3ms ping is roughly 1 second of game lag. And more then 1s game lag in pvp.. = death. Less than is often the cause of close counter melee combat issues, which is why having the server in mid usa makes absolutely no sence at all. And also why most gaming servers for pvp games have us/eu/far east and australia based servers.

And also fyi - most uk isps now required by law to block ptp type connections it's likely the traffic managers are having an effect on our eso connections. Trying to set up games of civ for example is horrible even with local eu country clients.

No what could customer support do to reduce lag except move servers?

What region are you playing the game in? (Your country and specific area)

    UK

    Who is your ISP?
    Sky

After the last patch pretty much anywhere I go and anything I do, the reactions of me pressing the button or clicking my mouse takes what seems to be an eternity in the game. I have cast siphon and been able to kill a mob from constantly pressing my mouse button before the game shows any animations what so ever. I can then run to the next mob and it will then show the animation for siphon.

In some occasions I am killed before any animations are shown, do you have any idea how ridiculous it is watching a mob do a sword dance over my body after I have died, its like am getting tea bagged by a mob, which if intended would be great really funny.

I have never come across such a problem with lag in any other game at all, and I have played everything from wow, swtor, fallen earth, flyff, rose, eve, lotro am sure you get the idea. I love the game but the lag is starting to get in the way of playing the game.
Never retreat, If you turn and run you will only die tired.
