Bank Account Being Charged?

  • kingkillerda_ESO
I see everyone complaining about a subscription charge, My problem is my bank account was charged for the digital standard copy and my bank account shows the transaction, they never credited my account with the game or any record of the purchase, customer support hasn't done a thing, ive been waiting fo a phone call for over 12 hours....Where is my game you thieves and why is your customer support so incompetent?!

After some thinking I was wondering, is it possible to get a refund? I got the game from Zenimax digital store directly.
I'm honestly thinking the same thing honestly. Still have yet to hear back from either email, or phone support. Called bank to see where my card is and it's "being processed" which means another week or 2 before I get it in hand. And sadly living in BFE (or Tinytown USA) I'm 60mi away from the closest Walmart, and 190mi away from the nearest Gamestop...
I like in a major city, that is Salt Lake City and the Gamestop's and Walmart's here do not have ESO time cards because it would seem that there are no ESO time cards available to be purchased.

Folks.. they made it clear on the account page and from what I'm reading here, on the box as well. I'm not understanding how.. if one is on a limited income, as I am, you didn't budget ahead of time for this.

Sadly there is no flag for illogical posts but you are off topic.

In my opinion, if you can TAKE money on the weekend, you should be able to RETURN it on the weekend too. But I guess that is too consumer friendly for most corporations, got to get those free short-term loans right?

That isn't how banks work. You can shop and buy all weekend long with your bank card, but can you go to the bank and talk to someone there? Deposit money that is available immediately? No, or at least I can't. I don't agree with charging a full month's subscription just to validate a person's payment info, but there should be no reason to get upset at ZOS for something they cannot control.

My bank actually does let me deposit and immediately withdraw at an atm (up to $1000 per week). And I can also call my banks customer support over the weekend, which I have not been able to do with Zenimax.

I suppose its my own fault for expecting a similar level of service from an american company vs a canadian one though.

I've been charged twice, even contacted my bank to make sure there were no processing problems on their end. Waiting 2 days now still can't play. It's definitely Zenimax's incompetence.

I can't fathom why they wouldn't just extend the grace period and avoid this PR nightmare. Take it out of my 30 days, I don't care, just let me play what I've PAID FOR while you untangle your idiotic mess!!!

Middle of Monday, still no official post to address the problem. We should all plaster this throughout their social media, and major game review sites/forums. Sad that it has to go to that level to get an appropriate resolution.

@mccobleb14_ESO Try pre-paid VISA/Mastercard if they are available and Internet explorer. Should work.

Otherwise, it took them a few days to deal with my ticket because they are obviously swamped. Maybe they do the copy pastes to people when they are being rude, or something, because the CSR's were nice in my experience.

Zenimax there's a difference between doing a temporary authorization charge and having that $14.99 actually POST to the bank account. That wasn't any "temporary charge". Temporary charges that are waiting authorication DO NOT POST to accounts. I've been working in the bank industry for 15 years.

Also, why does my account page say 60 days game time remaining essentially making me pay for the month of May?

Why am I already having to pay for the month of May? What if come the end of April I don't want to play your game anymore?

    I'm not a happy customer.

"We require you to choose a subscription option and enter valid payment information. For credit cards, debit cards and PayPal there is no charge made until after your included 30 days of game time has expired."

Unacceptable. What is Zenimax? The new EA? Are you aspiring to be a credit card company, or a cell phone contract service?

This is a blatant attempt to entrap people who play for a while to see about the game, but decide to do other things and forget about the fact that they signed up because they are busy - into automatic payments being charged to their account for a service they have chosen not to use.

If Zenimax will not remove this requirement for the free 30 days, I absolutely refuse to purchase the subscription I was planning to have for the next couple of years. This is a matter of principle, a matter of being straightforward and ethical. I will never support a gaming company which behaves in such a predatory fashion.

Thought I DO love the game. I think it is amazing. Pity that ppl who actually created it depend now on the billing group. Which is, as i assume from their behaviour, are americans. Guess it is common practice there.

    How is this a Pre-Authorization:

As you can see that is a signed Point of Sale withdrawal.

4 days now and my money is still "on hold." Zenimax, when you promise your customers 30 days of game time included in that price, you had damn well better deliver on that promise. Release my money, NOW.

CS handling finance/account billing etc... they don't read forums. They read support tickets. I know whenever drama like this pops up everything slows down like crazy and makes us all insanely upset.

Giving credit card info is standard for Subs, being charged is not. Being funds checked, that's understandable but not overly normal, but they are trying to keep gold sellers/spammers down. It's an inconvenience for us, and for some it's really been unfair hardship on launch weekend, but I am happy they care about that integrity of the game to proactively do something about it.

It is a sub game. They want to keep your business for months/years to come. This MMO model does have flaws even big ones come up, but they tend to work harder to make it right and sometimes compensate to help restore the love. I've had great CS so far with my support tickets, and I'm really feeling for the guys who are not having as much luck.

I am sorry for the guys having the issues. It does really suck when you just want to get into it and you are on hold for some reason or another. Other players shouldn't make fun either IMO, it's not funny when it happens to us. Hang in there guys and hope your stuff get fixed soon so you can come play with us!

Just where does it say their rationale for pre-authorizing a full month of service 30 days in advance (which has numerable flaws as is) is related to gold farming? Please substantiate these claims if you want to enlighten people.

P.S. You were polite enough LadyChaos, but not all have been. My reply is not intended to be as curt as it may sound, nor directed at you specifically. I just do not understand the logic in this and have seen nothing official about the topic. A standard authorization fee would make sense and be industry standard -- and as far as I can tell have the same limited impact on gold farming.

Players Upset Over The Elder Scrolls Online's Subscription System

Players Upset Over The Elder Scrolls Online's Subscription System

Like most subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing games, The Elder Scrolls Online includes 30 day free game time with purchase, but in order to access that 30 free days, one first has to set up a subscription, and that's got some of the game's players in an uproar.

Tomorrow morning at 8 AM Eastern, players who have purchased The Elder Scrolls Online but have yet to set up a recurring subscription or entered a game time code will no longer have access to the game.

The issue with most players making their objections heard in the Elder Scrolls Online forums over the past couple of days isn't the subscription itself — the minimum $14.99 monthly fee comes as no surprise. What is surprising is that Zenimax Online is pre-authorizing users' credit and debit cards the full $14.99 (or more) fee.

Being a pre-authorization, the charge briefly appears as a pending item with most North American banks, and won't be counted towards overdraft problems.

To many this is not a big deal. To others, it's a major inconvenience, as one forum-goer explains.

"So basically, because I only have about $12 in my bank (I'm between paydays), I'm not going to be able to play the game I ALREADY PAID FOR until next week when I have enough to cover the authorization?

What kind of nonsense is this!?"

Players without credit or debit cards who were planning to pick up prepaid game time cards are running into problems as well, as the cards are not widely available at retail at this point in time. Without some form of electronic payment or a game time card in-hand, they'll be out of luck come tomorrow morning.

Zenimax Online is at least working to help players with insufficient funds or those unable to locate time cards stay in the game, according to an update on the official post regarding the pre-authorization issue.

" We want everyone who purchased ESO to have immediate access to the included 30 days ofESO game time. In the event that you enter your payment information for authorization and the transaction cancels due to lack of funds in your account, please contact our Support Team. We'll work with you to ensure you have access to your included 30 days of game time."

It's a strange situation, to be sure. I've been playing MMORPGs for fifteen years, and I've had to enter plenty of credit card numbers, but I've never had a company pre-authorize my card the full amount a month before the subscription is supposed to kick in.

I reached out to Zenimax Online for comment on the billing issues, and will update the post should I receive a response. Hopefully they can get a handle on the situation, and The Elder Scrolls Online won't see a substantial drop in players come tomorrow morning.

After waiting about 6 hours, I got contacted by phone but unfortunately there was a connection issue. I had explained in the comment box that I don't have a credit card and thus don't plan to choose a recurring subscription, but iDeal instead.

After the failed phone call I got an email with apologies for the bad connection and with a game time code. A quote from the email:

"I definitely understand the concern regarding the subscription and would like to offer a temporary resolution. Below is a one day game time code. This will place a subscription on your account and allow you to use the 30 days game play included with your game."

So I'm not sure if I will be able to play only one day now, or 30 days... I will come back here once I know more, but I hope for the best!

Yeah sure, but its been 2 days and we are talking about a major issue. Shouldnt the support know about this allready especially since the whole point is to contact them to solve it? I dont have anything against them, I understand its not their fault. But its furstrating after 3 tickets to get a reply that says "...although if you dont have a credit card, you can buy a game card and login into the game now". It's not that hard to understand the issue here.

I am all for P2P models, I never want to play F2P MMO again and if their intention was to keep away gold sellers, fine. But surely they couldnt think of a more clumsy way to do it.

This is not true. If you use paypal they can ban your paypal account from being used for subscription again, but they can't see any info about your cc so you can make another paypal acc and they'll know sht. No they're are just classic stupid business people with their shiny mba diplomas knowing sht about real world and real customers.

I have seen no post by Zenimax detailing this as a method of prevention against gold spammers. Can you please post a link? If this is true, it will change my opinion greatly - in a positive direction, regarding the business practices of Zenimax.
