20 hours of maintenance?

If it really is 8 more hours, that will be early morning for me... No ESO today at all, missed login reward and Endeavors

And the fact that PTS is also down is double sad, because I wanted to start building a certain house on PTS (since I can't afford it on live).

If just two weeks ago ESO had such maintenance, I would be practicing Griffon stunt flying in GW2 for hours. Now when I want to roleplay in ESO, I will not be able to focus on the flying route

Last week GW2 got an update. An event started, so event stuff and some new rewards were added, a handful of minor fixes threwn in as a bonus, typical stuff, a standard 6 hour downtime for ESO.

Completely forgot about it, so out of the blue I got a message "A new build is available, the client will restart in 2 hours." Finished what I was doing, briefly logged out, downloaded the update and 5 minutes later was back in the game.

That's how you do maintenance in a modern game...

There may be a good reason why maintenance takes so long.
The problem is - again and for 10 years - the lack of communication from Zenimax studio.

Any plan to make the daily reward claimable? I'm not even gonna mention the seals of endeavors, but other similar games offer some kind of compensation or allow daily rewards to be claimed regardless when access is limited (to 2 hours in the dead of night for EU players in this case).

I'm patiently waiting for the servers to go online again, I'm not going to complain missing a reward. I've never complained about ESO maintenances and I'm not complaining. Devs do what they can. Yeah, Maintenance is extended. Some may miss Endeavors and login rewards but keep in mind this is a game. ZOS isn't intending for others to lose rewards. Things don't go as planned sometimes and we just have to make do and just play ESO once the servers are back up and running.

There is other things we can do while we wait like: Watch your favorite movies or TV shows, play other games or apps, if weather is good spend time outside and with family, or even read your favorite novels. No need to complain or cause needless drama. Try to be positive please.

In fact, I'm taking this maintenance as an opportunity to make a homemade pizza and breadsticks rather than me getting distracted by the game and forgetting to make my pizza.

Game maintenances are frustrating but games are just that, games. Just wait for the servers to be back up and find something else to do to pass the time.

Just voicing my opinion but this upgrade might have something to do with future updates and therefore is required for checks to make sure the game works smoothly. I honestly don't mind missing 1 reward from time to time because it isn't really a huge deal. I just want to come back to a working game and that's it. If a longer maintenance insures the game works smoothly then fine by me.

It's a total pain; I'm a newish player yet but this game sure goes under a lot of maintenance. But maybe I'm just used to FFXIV which doesn't do maintenance for 20 hours more than once every three years to implement an entire expansion lol.

What I'm wondering is, is this common?

Well, I have plenty of other games to play and have actually mostly just been logging in briefly to do my daily endeavours and then going to play something else anyway in recent weeks. My new year resolution was to try out a ton of games that are sitting in my steam library that I have never actually played.

Just need to decide which one to go play today. The one I was playing last night was giving me motion sickness since I apparently suck at flying a space ship so something a bit less stomach churning would be good today.

Does this mean extended by a FURTHER 8 hours - i.e. 8 hours beyond the 5pm estimated completion time?

I'm just wondering if it's worth sticking around tonight, or not.

To be fair, the maintenance wasn't announced with very much lead time. Vacation day could have been planned for a while.
