Maintenance for the week of January 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – January 6
• NA megaservers for maintenance – January 8, 4:00AM EST (9:00 UTC) - 8:00AM EST (13:00 UTC)
• EU megaservers for maintenance – January 8, 9:00 UTC (4:00AM EST) - 13:00 UTC (8:00AM EST)

So whatever happened to that Q&A?

So, they still haven't released the Q&A. I am doubtful they'll say anything meaningful in it at this point. Given how they gaslit the community with u35. I am not confident in the contents of it. But adding another failed promise to the community after one the most damaging patches ever in a year of failed goals. I wish they'd just take it seriously for once as they have now pushed the player base to 2017-2018 levels of players. Just give us the Q&A. Even if it's one question and answer. Something concrete. If this was the plan and it's so well thought out. Why has it been literal months since the promise of it. So many let downs will only continue the train of losing players.

The silence is the worst part about this. I've written @ZOS_JessicaFolsom and @ZOS_Kevin alike. Not getting a response - especially when fluffier links can be posted, interviews have been had, etc. - is just straight up disrespectful. A lot of respect has been lost.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but are you important enough to warrant a direct response from them? I mean, do you think they care that they have lost your respect? Do you think they have enough time in the day to answer every question that is asked of them?

In an ideal world, they would be able to debate and discuss every comment they are called out in, but let's be honest, they aren't going to agree to every interview that is asked of them. Not unless you have a Youtube channel with strong subscriptions, or are a member of a podcast, or write articles for an influential gaming website. I'm sure they just don't have the time or even care.

That isn't to say I don't want a Q&A, I just think the first issue is: what questions are they going to answer? They can't answer everyone's questions, and to be frank, there are tons of questions that community members would ask that don't deserve an answer ("Why are all the good mounts in the Crown store?!?"). What we need is for a content creator to take submissions for questions, from the community, then compile those questions, filter out the stupid ones, and request ZOS for an interview where they ask those questions. A Q&A with twitch chat, or on the forums, or with the general community, is NEVER going to happen

You're fine, I don't take it that the wrong way at all, I get it. I'm not solely upset they don't respond to what I think are well-crafted topics from myself, but rather the overarching trend this discussion is illustrating. I'm upset that supposed industry professionals ignore hot-button issues with stunning consistency while the creative director actively laments us on his Twitter. They want to stick their heads in the sand and pretend like ignoring the community is doing them any favors, it's not. How they can't see their community management isn't working for them is beyond me.

They don't want to answer my questions - fine. But when they even ignore YouTube personalities - like Gina did with TheRealGodzilla - it paints a pretty negative picture. They don't want to answer them either, fine, but I don't think we should let them forget it either.

As for what questions to ask - have they tried anything? There's 0 reason they can't lead the charge on getting U35 questions in an organized fashion, much like they did with the High Isle events and promos. I'm sure we'll hear they're "exploring better ways to communicate" from an award-winning CM again here soon followed by them subsequently dropping from the thread again.

But Trivium's doing some ESO talk.

We won’t get a response this month, because next week is Thanksgiving in the US and most people take a couple of days off.

Perhaps they will respond in December, but then again, maybe there will be other urgent firefighting ZOS needs to do (for example, the fix for blocking created a new bug). Then there’s Christmas and New Year, more public holidays.

At this rate, we are looking at a response sometime in 2023. Hmm… let’s say, second quarter 2023 :D

I would bet that they address it at U37 with balance patches. And they'll also probably do an end of year recap talking about outstanding stuff like the server re-architecure and server replacement.

My templars are long dead, social groups scattered, community fractured,.. the game is nigh unplayable for a month plus,...

I honestly dont have any hope or expectations. Some people think this can be fixed or recover,.. I dont have this hope, not with how long things are left unaddressed. All signs indicate that ESO and its playerbase have been put on the back burner by ZOS

Sure patches and content will still come.. more broken patches and crown shop content I mean.. dlcs? expansions? sure, much of that is cut and paste these days, Even the storylines are getting weak.

The Q&A is there, we just have to find the leads for this mythic item. This where I think they drop:

    * rank 6 jewelry crafting writs
    * last boss of a veteran DLC trial, but only if everyone successfully blocks every attack
    * Eyevea treasure maps
    * Graven Derp trifecta with two companions out
    * crown crates, but only the 15 packs

In retrospect, it's especially hilarious that Rich's first response to the Update 35 complaints was to ask the players to trust ZOS, when we basically can't even trust them to finish a conversation.

No one is saying there aren't multiple interpretations of the lore, and we're not arguing that ESO did it "wrong".

We're arguing that they decided to go for the most boring, mundane, seen-before interpretation possible. Like they almost always do, unless they can ride on the coat-tails of past games.

On Twitter, before the patch notes dropped people were making a ton of big claims about what was in them. Some of it ended up being very true, some of it didn't (e.g. people said ZoS killed light attacking). Rich said that all the comments about what's in a patch before the notes or pts are even available was tiresome, and to wait until pts drops to form an opinion. He also asked the community to trust them.

I actually don't see anything wrong with this though. He didn't call anyone anything, just said knee jerks reactions are tiresome/ disappointing. granted this round wasn't well received but he's also right to say wait until it actually drops before saying it's bad. I would say asking for trust at this point for ME would be too much, but he didn't even ask for that. Said it would be appreciated, but didn't demand it. At least he didn't tell you that you didn't have to be here 😜.

I'm far from a zos fanboy. Love that they created a game I have a choice between soloing or grouping rather than my last mmo that tried to strangle soloing. Much of the management decisions have left me scratching my head in confusion (I made my living for decades off retail corporate management and their actions scream bad long term business to me) but I'm not privy to their PnL reports or to their agenda. Communication would be a cheap and easy way to reinforce some loyalty, even with the daunting task of making up for lack of communication and the hits they'd take at first. But again, I'm not in the know so /shrug. But this tweet specifically I couldn't find fault in.

This tweet was simply the most recent in a line of thinly veiled disparagement of the player base. Or rather certain segments of it.

It was tone deaf, uncalled for and after the pages and pages of feedback on errors and problems they'd had in the PtS previously (which was not heeded) they people voicing concerns already knew what would happen. And it played out pretty much as expected.

They already knew it was not going to go over well and instead of trying to get people on board, they say this.

His tweet isn't awful, but asking for trust is hard when he's not interested in a dialogue to begin with. Perfect example of the wrong tone at the wrong time from the wrong person. The fact that he expects knee-jerk reactions and yet does nothing to get ahead of that speaks volumes.

Fundamentally, this is why the Q&A is so important. Trust is at a low point. That tweet and several other actions are a part of that.

Oh I agree on the trust issue, and said as much. The management style imo is reminiscent of another that had no real competition in their genre, until WOW hit and squashed it flat(I do so miss my iksar monk) and I was here for the "you know you don't have to be here" thread. That's about as blunt as you can get(admittedly in response to a rudely worded question) so I don't ever expect polish. I would have worded his tweet differently, but I couldn't find the accusations regarding it specifically grounded. Now does there need to be more communication? Yes a hundred times. But over the years, with 90-100's of page threads regarding cash shop, one tam, racial changes, and any other thing we've, never got it. It's a meme at this point and any long term player knows it is what it is.

I personally think communication could be improved in the sense of making it easier to find. But, I actually do think the communication actually is generally comprehensive. And that often times, it's not that ZoS isn't communicating but rather that they are slow to fix issues, and they tend to solve things in ways that players don't really like. This results in their fixes needing to be fixed too.

A good example is the jabs change. We DID get communication on that, but they left the commentary pretty much buried in a pretty long patch note and didn't respond to any of the many threads. They also didn't give the community back old jabs. However, they explicitly did state why it was changed. The wanted to support weaving with jabs so they changed the attack cadence, and then they needed to change the animation to match it. It might not be what people would like to hear, but there was a specific concrete reason communicated to us.

I personally think they actually gave us a lot of communication surrounding U35, the problem with U35 to me is it's a bad patch. I hope U37 fixes it. And I am hoping that they either give us the Q&A soon, or just let people know an estimated time frame of when they'll be willing to talk about it. My guess would be around U37, but who knows. That's kind of just partially wishful thinking on my part since U36 had barely anything.

They did give a reason for changing the animation in terms of its timing, yes, but not for the elements of the change related to appearance or why the movement had to change so drastically.

For example, they never acknowledged or responded to questions about why they chose a vampiric motif of all things for an Aedric Spear ability - a motif that they also reused in the same patch for one of the completely unrelated mechanics in Earthen Root Enclave (also equally in violation of lore, to my understanding). They do have a loremaster on staff, last I knew, and this design decision made a lot of people wonder whether or how he was included in this process.

I would love to hear a more complete answer given to the questions regarding jabs, as the timing has been addressed but these other components have not.

We got communication from Rich Lambert regarding the issues of the U36 launch, so I don't see why we can't even get a 'sorry the U35 Q&A is not happening' from them at the very least. It's so unprofessional, disappointing, and a huge disrespect to the players.

Personally, it's more the "I get it, change is scary." that does it for me - it's so incredibly condescending and dismissive.

No one was afraid of the change, it wasn't scary, it was concerning - that's a big difference. And it was concerning for a number of very valid and legitimate reasons that were expressed and detailed extremely well by a community that collectively knows ESO better than its own creative director.

Trust is one thing, but respect needs to be there too, and with the way the majority of ZOS (people and policies) treats their customer base and community, I just don't see it.

How can you expect someone to trust you when you don't respect them enough to sit down and have an honest conversation with them?

The Q&A didn't happen, it's not going to happen, the sincerity surrounding that opportunity has long since passed. Any Q&A that eventually materializes down the road, regardless of how it gets presented, won't be coming from the same place, it will be one to save face, not the one that was promised and never happened.

I really disagree with the idea that any Q&A done now would be automatically bad and not what was promised. They have made multiple updates letting us know it's still coming this entire time. I personally don't feel as though a communicated delay means it doesn't count anymore.

I will judge it based on whether or not it materializes and the quality of it at the time. It's fine if others feel too burned and so don't feel the same way. But I'm not going to automatically approach it as awful and bad faith just because it didn't happen in a time frame I would have liked. I will especially will feel that way if the delay was caused by them implementing concrete solutions to balance changes that fix what they broke. I want fixes more than sentiment in the first place. If they released it alongside a really good patch that fixes all the biggest issues, I'd be happy.

I never said it would be bad or awful, but when the promise was made in August and still hasn't materialized in November, despite significant outcry on the issue - I definitely start to question the sincerity of it.

The delivery of a message is often just as important as its content, and addressing something as it happens says a lot more than addressing something after the fact when it may no longer be relevant.

If someone is concerned about something, but in reality there's no need to be... just no one bothered to tell them otherwise, then that failure to address that person's concerns leads to unnecessary negative experiences. That's very much what's happening now - and a Q&A tomorrow, or a Q&A 4 more months from now, isn't going to take away from that.

As for fixes as sentiment - oh I absolutely want those fixes, but I don't think the bar should be so low that we have to settle for one or the other. We're not going to get better if we don't expect better.

I mean, the post did more than question it. It basically made it sound impossible for it to be something that sincerely tries and do right by the community. I felt very strongly differently so wanted to provide a counter perspective. Yes, immediate addressing would be preferred. But, they thus far they haven't just ignore us and let us be concerned for no reason. Instead, they informed us there would be a delay.

So I'm withholding judgement until I see how it was addressed. If the delay is for a good reason (they didn't just want to discuss feelings, they wanted to make it right) then I can understand that. If the delay was a lie to try to silence us, and no Q&A materializes, well I'll just say that I'll remember that too, to keep it polite.

Game development moves in months/quarters not days. So I don't always expect a speedy response. Sometimes the best they can do is "please wait." For some people that's too long and they start thinking negatively about everything. That's to be expected, and as I said earlier in the thread, I think it's why using patches as the communication method is a mistaken way to communicate. But, I also understand that it often comes from a place of developers sincerely wanting to fix things for the users and "let their work speak for itself" to use a phrase the Overwatch 2 team once used when they went no contact for a while. It's a very easy mistake to make when what the developer wants to do is fix something.

So for me personally, I withhold judgment on such delays until a timeframe that allows game development has passed. Usually an update or 2 unless they communicate that it will be longer than that.

So far, they have chosen to let their inaction speak volumes instead.
This is not a tricky fix to a critical software component that we are talking about. Nothing about this subject should take this long to address.

If the intent is to fix the issues caused by U35, it is actually a months long tricky fix process. U35 caused a lot of problems and revealed that their entire design plan long term had a fundamental problem of designing around two conflicting goals. They literally have to go back to the drawing board and re-examine their larger plan entirely and then work to fix several issues without compromising their most important goals. That's not a quick fix.
