Account-Wide Achievements IS COMING

@peacenote I won't quote your whole post but I just want to wholeheartedly agree.

There've been a lot of great suggestions over these years, every time these threads pop up, but right now it doesn't seem like any of them are being implemented. All of us who prefer character achievements are just supposed to suck it up and deal with it and those who wanted account wide achievements to include everything will be disappointed anyway. Maybe we'll be wrong come Monday but after so many years of continual disappointment, I'm not optimistic.

    theres 6 classes

with this change there wont be any need to have more than one character for each class

if this goes forward i will have no reason to make another character, because it will just have all the achievements from its moment of creation,

i will also save lots of money on the crown store by not getting skill lines and other unlocks for the new characters

People really see those as this important?!
The only time i check achiement is for missing skyshard... so account or not it really makes no differance to me

Also what differance does it make that a character have acheiment for quest he didnt do? I mean he still asn't done them and you can easily track the white map icon to see wich are done or not

We're glad that we can bring account wide achievements to everyone! We'll have more details as we get closer.

We don't all want it - I want to know more details now before I spend money on pre-ordering a new chapter when I may not want to play the game any more.

This is very bad news for altoholics - game-ruining news.

Accout wide achievement are free as part of u33 in march

I think that's understood but people that really don't want this might stop playing entirely because they have no choice but this to be forced upon them so they just won't purchase the chapter and won't spend any more money on this game.

To me if someone plan to leave for something like this, is someone who would have left anyway as soon as he dislike something so now or later...

Except that a good many of the people who are not happy with this change are people like me - I have been here since beta and have barely missed a day of playing in that time (barring IRL emergencies), I've never sulked or rage quit or threatened to cancel my sub.

I've weathered every combat change, every change to gear sets, every tweak, every experiment.

But this is something that could be and ought to be handled so that it incorporates both the desires of those who want some things to be account wide, while retaining the per-character record that some of us love and are used to.

This is taking away something from the game - I have no problem with them adding an account wide reckoning of achievements, I just want to still have a per-character record alongside that.

I don't think that is too much to ask.

I am so happy about this I can't even begin to express it. Here's some reasons those that account-wide achievements are important to me:

I feel sick when not playing on my 'main' because I know the achievements are not carrying over - so I feel like I am wasting my time when I could be progressing my main.

I recently made the very hard decision (2 days ago!) to switch to a new main, who was a more fun to play class. I agonized about it for weeks.

Achievement vendors!!! Now I can play the fun to play class, not the one I was 'stuck' with, and get the furnishings I want!!

Holiday events! They make me literally ill at redoing the grind on alts to get the achieves. No more nauseating grind! BUT the motif achieves are still only on my crafter!! Not cool. Because the final holiday achieve req's the motif achieves.

I can peacefully retire my old 'main' from combat and actually enjoy the game on my super-powered class instead of struggling with the combat on my underperforming class.

I can play any alt I want anytime without feeling like I am wasting my time.

When I sign up for trials, no matter if I offer dps, I am always asked to bring my healer. Now I can get achievements for my dps too.

My vampire necro 'alt' is the only class that does the dark brotherhood. I can play her niche role when in the mood without worrying about her never achieving anything else.

There won't be any more mains or alts will there? I will play whichever class is the most fun. If we can't get a class-change token, this is what we need.

For me this is a big one!! I get achievements on one character and then sometimes I have to swap toons just to buy something. And then I can decorate with it on my main crafter. It's a small thing I know, but it is so very annoying to figure out okay which of my characters actually has this achievement so that I can buy this. Now, I will be able to do stuff on whichever toon is logged in. That is a beautiful thing. I also won't feel bad about people getting put out if they need to swap toons to make a trial or dungeon work. I am also way more likely to swap to my healer if a trial group needs it or if a dungeon group needs it myself.

I like the idea of the global achievement approach. I have a hard time doing both PvP and PvE on the same character. Switching bars and equipment to jump between them is bleh to me. I know many don't mind it, but for me I don't particularly enjoy it. More so when I prefer to PvE as one class, and PvP as another class. This at least gives me the opportunity to go for the 100% achievement (but with my skill level probably not. But at least I can hope now). I can try and compete all the achievements, because for me I can finally do it the way I want to. :P

I'd rather accountwide achievements apply to some things (monster trophies) with additional achievements related to completing or doing things on multiple characters, similar to SWTOR Legacy achievements. Then, a global achievements option so you can see what you've accomplished on your account vs on each character. I don't want my good characters to have Mass Murderer, for example. This honestly disappoints me more than anything else and that's saying a lot after that chapter reveal.

This, right here. I have characters who wouldn't touch DB content and I don't need the achievements for it on them- that, and quest NPC's will regard characters as a member of the DB in some areas of the game, changing dialouge and interactions. Why should my whole account be treated as if everyone is a member of DB when only one outlier created specifically for events is?

This new system is going to be problematic to say the least.

I am worried about that too. I only recently made a character to do the Dark Brotherhood questline… It is antithetical to most of my characters and how I usually play. Does this mean I have to delete them before the update to prevent all my characters from being viewed as members of the Dark Brotherhood? :frowning:

This is one thing that I do hope does not happen. I would rather quest it's not the account wide at all, then to allow that to happen. Quests are easy to do anyway and are not grindy or difficult like other achievements. However if it's just the achievements, and dialog does not change at all, then that's fine. I hope that is tied to say your skill level and not your achievements with the dark Brotherhood.

I thought npc reactions were based on what stage of a quest you were on (or competed), rather then whatever achievement you had? But someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

That’s true! Those dungeon achievements give a nice boost to the Undaunted skill line. And all those little achievements give nice boosts of XP along the way and, for me, add to my sense of character progression.

Now some of the accumulation achievements — PVP class kills, monster loot — would be nice for me to have account-wide as I’d like to have the various dyes…

I hope we get more details soon! Maybe it will be overall positive.

I don't think that is too much to ask.

Very well said. The more I think about this, the more I feel like not accommodating for both view points kind of takes us here:
    • How about every time you change you champion points, all of your characters get changed for that set up? Same for mundus and character stat points.
    • How about once you've put together a gear set, you can magically move and equip my golded, properly traited gear to any character with the click of a button, regardless of whether the gear is on your current character or a logged out one? Change characters and the game will assume by default you still want that gear equipped, and it will move it.
    • How about when I do writs on one character, I get gold and mats and inspiration equivalent to if all of my toons had done them, instead of having to log in one by one? Just make a bunch of level one mules next to your main and profit.
    • How about all characters have one shared bag when they loot? 210 slots on your account, instead of per character! Why not, they essentially are the same right??
    • How about we simplify things by making it so all of our characters must look the same, too? After the patch, the first character you log into will be the "template" and any character after that will look exactly like your template. Your pet and mount will be switched, your costume or outfit, everything. The only visible difference will be class abilities on bars.
    • How about no matter which character you use, the game will only display your @ name? Character names will be changed to look like - peacenote1, peacenote2, peacenote3, peacenote4 etc.

I'm being dramatic on purpose, but you get the idea. If you think that even one of those suggestions is ridiculous, maybe you can understand why, if you didn't before, some of us like having a record that tracks activity per character. I'm on PC, and I have the mod that lets you see achievements globally, and I'm all for getting that added. But there's no reason per-character achievement data needs to be removed to make the account-wide view a reality.

This is ridiculous and I'm not happy about it. Having over 48k achievement points on my main. Pretty much every achievement and trifecta done and then the challenge and fun of getting things again on different characters/classes all taken away.
Low level crafters able to run around with godslayer title on lol that's stupid.

The people that like this change are those who can't get certain titles/achievements Or don't have the time
    Or people who buy carries..

I have had a feeling for a while that this was coming. Basically because of the recent changes to some of the Achievement Points. They updated the amount of some to be consistent with other Achievements earned in a similar way.

Now the question hit me tho, why would it be so important to have them be so consistent if the points don't really do anything for us? I mean we don't earn rewards off them, we don't get titles, we get no way at all to even show them to other players unless....

That's the future and point of it. I really hope so! Give us rewards for those Achievement Points. GW2 does this. You earn Titles/Gold/Cosmetics and even their game currency. That is where this is all heading I am sure. So as such, if this is the case (and I am telling you it is), they HAD to make the achievements or the points be account wide so that alt chars can't take too much advantage of the system.

If they didn't there would be tons of complaints on the forums, example:

"I play certain characters for certain activities, for example I fish only on a fishing char, so why can't I get rewarded for that if I can't add those points to an overall total to get rewarded?"

"I don't want to have to do ALL achievements on my main account to get the rewards, why do this!?"

You get the idea! It's coming and I am happy! :D

If anyone else has hinted at this before my post, I am sorry, I couldn't contain what was in my head before reading everything else first. At least great minds think a like tho right!

Some achievements come with nifty little boons.

Antiquities for instance comes to mind, reaching the milestone that grants the achievement actually boosts your progress in the skill line.

I guess that will be lost and levelling antiquities to 9 in the 10 or so characters that I still wanted it for (the chests lvl 2 passive) will be... more Artaeum/Coldharbour time \o/

Maybe enough people wanted this, I personally was OK with achievement progress being character bound.

Making horse training account-wide would have made more sense to me than making achievements account wide, even though I am done with the former in both my accounts (and have little intention of starting a third account) whereas I still had plenty to achieve left.

Either way if this is what you wanted I am unbegrudgingly happy for you, is just not something I did want.

If it would have happened before the Maelstrom perfected weapon fiasco and the CP 2.0 Great XP Wipening I would probably be feeling the blood pulsing in my temples right now but those two instances gave me some degree of immunity to ESO derived mental anguish.

It is what it is, and it is a done deal. I just hope that those who asked for it find in it what they wanted, otherwise what a waste.
