implementing something like this now is rendering the massive amounts of time spent earning achievements on alts since launch totally pointless.

People made the same "well we did it up hill both ways in the snow" argument when (per-character) Veteren Ranks were changed out for (account-wide) Champion Points.

But that happened much earlier in the game’s timeline. And was not so wide-reaching. This is over 8 years playing for some, and they have done everything on their main; this diminishes replay value.

(Although must admit can’t recall if this is in fact true - I thought it was once you reached level 50 you started on vet points. Just remember got to level 16 before the swap to CP.)

Agree. Here is an example. I have been completing the x/30 achievements across my alts during this event (the stragglers anyway)... but now I've just stopped, cos pointless. In a few months time there will be less reason to log in, cos all that is left are the few achievements I can't or don't want to do. Do them once and done.... cya next expansion. Crazy.

Exciting news!! I'm hoping this means Steam achievements might finally be coming too? They were mentioned way back in 2016 in this post:

Some Steam players still want this! Please make it happen! Excited for the update!

Once you hit level 50 you automatically transitioned to Veteran Rank 1 (VR1) and then you earned Veteran Ranks the same way as levels all the way up to VR16, although the amount of XP (or VP, I think it was called) required per rank was a lot more than for the sub-50 levels. It was a slow grind, which you had to do on every character if you wanted to be able to equip max level gear, and this was before level scaling too so you needed to be max level with max level gear in order to be competitive in dungeons and PvP.

The same arguments were deployed when this was done away with in favor of account wide Champion Points, that it would "invalidate" the effort more longstanding players had put in to level multiple alts to VR16 and give newer players a "free ride". I didn't buy it then and I don't buy it now; the fact that something is a chore now does not mean it must never become easier.

Its not really the same though, is it? VR and CP are based on one thing only - xp. (Yes it was very grindy - only had one character then and getting to VR 16 was intense.)

(Also, if you wish, you can choose not to use CP points now. They are not forced on you.)

But achievements cover all aspects of the game & are very varied. Some are skill based, some are grindy, some are just fun.

I really don’t like the notion of all these achievements being now ‘one and done’. For all characters.

Are you against this being optional?

I'm not against it being optional. In fact I care very little about achievements, account-wide or per-character. They have never been a big factor in how I play the game. :)

What I was actually disagreeing with was this:

I don't buy the argument that something must never be changed because people have already invested time into it, that's all, and I was remarking that I was around when that same argument was deployed over VR vs CP.

If you want to do the thing with a character, do the thing with the character. I'm not sure why an outside tally is needed.

I have 16 characters over 2 servers and they are all different people with different skills and goals. Some are evil some arent... Some pvp some do not. They have their own likes and dislikes and none of that is dependent on some tracker in game. I've been playing for 4 years and only recently notice the title thing. Its just not important. I don't even look at other people's titles in game. Although I will tell you my pvp guild uses them to target. hint take off the flawless conquerer title if you want to be alive for any stretch of time.

This is actually a boon for me so I can now without any thought use whatever toon I like to do what ever content i like. Some of mine are best suited to one part of an achievement while others to a different part. Now I can have it combined.

All of this supposing we understand how this system will work as they were quite vague about it on stream and there has been no official outline. I'm assuming they will cover everything in the patch notes but at least from this feedback they will know how specific their description will need to be.

I wish they could also add transferable quests completion. It's so annoying to do each quests again and again because you started a new character.

Why not just switch characters and start where you left your previous character? Maybe I'm asking too much lol.

So very excited about this! I love the synchronsing across characters, similar to the way outfits and such work. I'm one player on one account, makes no difference what character I'm playing, why should I have to grind again for something I already got?
    Very pleased about this change!

After watching the ESO Live stream and reading the forum I've decided to add my voice to the conversation.

For me, the "account-wide achievements"(#6 ZOS Kevin) is a RIP 'cause I have played character-oriented achievements since 2015. I remember levelling each character separately to level VR16. I run 12 characters nowadays (all classes & roles) and earned many achievements with all of them. Upcoming change makes every day seem like murder here.

    Many of players mentioned herein, prefer to keep individual track of each characters achievements (#15 ArchangelIsraphel, #50 Crown_of_Antlers, #97 Epona222, #169 Annyelle), simply like doing achievements on different alts (#13 SydneyGrey, #35 Epona222, #69 Karivaa), re-playing the content (#17 tmbrinks, #36 tmbrinks, #40 xAKlMB0xSLlCEx, #114 RaddlemanNumber7, #142 LalMirchi, #211 SerafinaWaterstar), saying that its fun and/or challenge #80 Annyelle, #82 wolfie1.0., #89 peacenote, #117 Anne13).

I think its all about the concentrating/uniqueness/identify of some characters #20 Epona222, #36 tmbrinks, #40 xAKlMB0xSLlCEx, #59 Tandor, #57 Indigogo, #107 haelgaan, #173 Elsonso, #204 Mephit), but most of all a skill (#24 Theros, #134 Xuhora, #137 SerafinaWaterstar, #167 SerafinaWaterstar) of a player playing selected class & build both pve and pvp. But soon scenario for alts gonna look like #73 Dragonnord mentioned: "So my I-never-learned-to-play-it-and-I-suck-at-it stamblade can be a Godslayer without ever going to Sunspire and also a Grand Overlord without ever putting a foot in Cyrodiil?".

IMAO saying "Bring the player not the class." (#98 Wolfpaw) is not valid in this game.

Atop all of that players can buy carries... (#117 Anne13).

    Many more players disapprove of the foretold changes (#23 heaven13, #48 Oliviander, #54 freespirit, #55 whitecrow, #58 Csleia, #72 haelgaan, #141 Xarc, #161 Greg11jkalfa).

I agree with all but one player cited above and hope that this thread will not go unnoticed by devs.

I currently have a level 35 with "master angler" and a level 12 with "the merciless" titles. The irony and humor of having such titles on low level characters will be lost in this new system.

This should be the headline for new patch. This is much more interesting change than the card game. So many of us have been asking this for as long as the game exists.

And so many didn't want this change. What makes you more justified than the others?

    @mickeyx

What makes me more justified? The fact that they listened and are implementing it lol. So obviously there was huge demand for it for a long time now. 🤣
