Harrowstorm Farming Pattern: Has anyone figured it out?
Are Harrowstorms like Dark Anchors where there will always be one thats up, are they each on their own timers, and most importantly, is there a set pattern to do them in?
Note all of these observations are from doing harrowstorms in western skyrim, NOT blackreach.
Harrowstorms are random. In my experience there is usually 1-2 mins of downtime between one dying and the next spawning (though this is hard to determine for sure since I can't be everywhere on the map at once). I have never waited more than 5 minutes before finding the next harrowstorm.
At max draw distance (I haven't tried with less than max, but its possible it works at less than max), you can see three harrrowstorms from the morthal wayshrine. You can see two (one of which you can also see from morthal) at dragon bridge wayshrine. You can see north point after a short run from the wayshrine (on top of the cliffs - no need to go down the path). This means that with decent loads, you can check 5 out of the 6 locations within 1 minute. If it has been at least 4 mins since the last storm and don't see it at any of those 5 locations, I run to giants coast, as it is a fairly long run from a wayshrine before you can see whether giant's coast is active.
You should be able to get your daily done fairly quickly if you check for big black and red funnel clouds in the sky in this manner.
According to my calculations, the current pattern seems to be "When the stars align, the air is right, and the last message in zone chat asking why Harrowstorms aren't spawning contains a prime number of vowels"...
Farmers are gonna farm. That’s the nature of the game and I’m sure ZOS is aware of it but you really can’t stop it from happening. Looks like the overall HP might keep them up long enough for more players to join and get some exp and rewards, but it’s hard to tell how big some Zerg swarms will be. Could be a fun event to do with your guild mates, this is an mmorpg after all.
