So both the PTS and the live game pull their patches from Akami. Yet PTS patches fine through my ISP and the live game doesn't. Seems peculiar to say the least. I also verified using Wireshark that I am not getting a proper SYN/SYN-ACK when patching live. Unfortunately, Wireshark doesn't actually tell you where the break down in the response cycle is.

I do know it's not my system (turned off firewall) and same thing and it's not my home router (again, turned off firewall). And it doesn't APPEAR to be Verizon, because the PTS traffic is getting through from the same destination (Akami).

I also noticed in my Game Consultant results file that launcher.bethesda.net fails a ping. I tested this from many sources including from my cell over my carrier, from ping tools on the internet and in every case it still fails ping. Not sure if this is related to the issue or not, but seems relevant.

Finally solved.
As suggested i've used a VPN ( windscribe) only for patching.
and now all work fine.

The launcher downloads a little data before crashing. I wrote a little DOS .bat file to continuously rerun the launcher. This worked. It took a couple hours downloading 1 or 2 MB each time. Just make a file named FixESO.bat with these 5 lines and run it in a CMD window. Change the first line to the disk your launcher is on and change the path in the second line to the Launcher directory.

Hi everybody. After more than a month without accessing the game, yesterday I finally got in.
I have tried EVERY tips, official ( unistall !!!!) and unofficial ( some almost solved, almost..).
The solution involved ANOTHER lan. ( no VPN, in my case, but Mobile HOTSPOT)

Long story short:
1. disconnect phisically the PC lan cable, use PC wifi connect to mobile DATA HOTSPOT
2. Launch, admin mode, the launcher. Let it do things, click the button "UPDATE" or whatever is
3. See it verifying, and START DOWNLOADING ( check it use the wifi hotspot with windows Activity monitor)
4. After a while, in my case more or less 10 gb dowloaded of 55 total ), --> CONNECT the LAN Cable -> wait --> shutdown the hotspot on the mobile, everything WHILE the damned launcher is downloading
5. prey, meditation, a beer, some music...
6. PLAY !!!!! ( Enjoy, after screaming and yelling to ZOS )

My PC have BOTH cabled and WIFI LAN. My guess :
The issue seems to something DNS related, not ISP blocking file, but the DNS resolution of the patching server name, that is to obtain the IP for the name: for some reason, with some isp, some dns does not work. BUT.. once the launcher has acquired via mobile hotspot the correct IP--> DOWNLOAD, nobody blocking nothing ( indeed we were able to manually download the files via browser)

@ZOS, got it ? in my opinion is aka mai messing with DNS propagation

Guess what? One updates and one doesn't... a mystery.

Broken links, VPNs, cutting and pasting....Today there was maintenance..still broken! ..tomorrow more maintenance, who knows?

I cannot believe that paying customers (PREPAID customers) have been unable to use the services, that they have already payed for, in over a month. There doesn't seem to be an issue when you guys charge my credit card every year. I will be looking for a full refund in cash, NOT a dog or a bat or some useless hairstyle BUT real life money. For the time that I have been unable to use your service. because you see it is your fault and your error. I'm sure someone can motivate guildies and their friends in other guilds as well to join in a class action suit. (many class actions are pro-bono).12.00 USC roughly per month. One person, no big deal. But a couple of hundred maybe a thousand, you figure it out. Bigger more established entities have fallen before, Visa, Mastercard etc. I hope it goes on longer at this point, a few months more it will be a free dinner.


I don't find it amusing. I don't find your lack of concern or customer care funny. I don't think its helpful to ignore your customer base which is making you millions. I am utterly disgusted about what I have read in the last 12 pages, What people have had to do just to play their games, to use your service, which is broken.

My Launcher crashed 4 times, crashed the first time at 22% updating. Then it got to 25% and had several instant Launcher crashes upon starting it. But now that I started it the fifth time it's doing the update normally. All I did was run the Game Consultant, perhaps that that jarred something loose. The update is slow though, for writing on an SSD (just 32MB/sec)

I don't know if it's the port being used or something else. I know Verizon blocks port 80 but I don't know if that's for both incoming and outgoing. I don't get paid to know. I just want to play this game without having to deal with a launcher that crashes because it's failing to access the patch servers.

Please Zenimax, at least give us a reply or SOMETHING.

Still happening. Launcher still getting hung up, not fully downloading the patch naturally. Still have to take steps to manually get this fixed. So, where is that fix on your end that you promised?

Well the game isn't a free to play, you gotta pay for the vanilla and eventually for the expansions like Morrowind and Summerset.

Today's patch worked fine for my and my husband's computers but not for my daughter's. We live in the same house so same internet, same network. My computer is also identical to my daughter's. I don't understand this at all. It took four files to patch my daughter's game. Two in depot, one in game and the last in vo_en. That took a bit of time, especially for someone whose working and taking college classes like she is. So frustrating!

Just reporting that I again needed to use Windscribe to patch. Stalled at 8% otherwise.

Glad I have a workaround, but would like to see this get fixed. If there are any logs I can get that could help, I'm happy to try and grab them.

This is now happening to me while downloading the Murkmire patch. I get to about 8-9% and it freezes for about 2 mins and then crashes to the desktop. Got any ideas ZOS?

i was able to fix the issues from MORE THAN A MONTH AGO by reinstalling everything, only to have a repeat sceario with this newest patch.

an offical statement would b nice

edit: for people desperate (like me) to get in and are using steam- uninstall the entire game an reinstall. it worked in september, it may work now

Having this issue again with the latest patch. I'm really disappointed that it hasn't been addressed yet. I'm able to manually download each file from the URLs in the logs (and, on that note - if you're going to allow this to be an ongoing issue, it would be really great customer service to at least make a page with all of the files we will need to download on it) and that seems to be working for this patch as well, but it's kind of insane to me that it's still not working over a month on. If my patch system was broken for a significant amount of my customers, that would be pretty much priority one before continuing to put out patches. This is not an ISP issue; my husband's computer on the same network in the next room can patch just fine. Please fix this! It takes a ridiculous amount of time to do this all manually, and not everybody with this issue is going to have the technical know-how to do this workaround. Between servers being down for so long and now this, I've wasted more than a day of subscription time on this stuff, and it's really discouraging.

So yesterday Murkmire launched and that patch took forever to get unless you manually downloaded with the URL or use a VPN. I managed to get it installed and play a little before sleeping.

Today I opened the launcher and the latest update worked without hassle. I didn't change anything on my end at all and left my PC on all night. I noticed in the log it was using a different port this time instead of 80, not sure if that's related at all or not since other people's logs show random ports.

I'm just glad I can open the launcher and play without it crashing while updating. Hopefully they changed the way the client updates itself or something to get it like this but I'm not holding my breath. I expect this problem to come back the next update. It seems very random after reading a LOT of people's comments on here. It seems like something on the PC/user's network end since multiple people have reported it working on multiple machines on the same network but then having one that just refuses to work.

I'm really hoping Zenimax or anyone with knowledge can give some input on what the hell is actually going on?

Im having this same issue. So I take it since im not computer savvy to do the workarounds and ZoS has no idea how to fix this I should just uninstall the game and unsub?

Also I cannot submit a ticket. The support page will not accept my game consultant report saying the file is to large and any file I attempt to attach to the ticket will not upload.
