PTS Feedback Thread for the Housing Editor

Placed blacksmith, woodworking and clothing crafting stations that I got from vouchers in Daggerfall Overlook today. Went off and did the new event, and when I returned the blacksmithing and woodworking stations had vanished. Not in inventory, not found in the "retrieve" tab. Just gone.

These were attunable stations so if this happens when it goes live, there will be hell to pay! And this is not the first time I have had items vanish.

On that note, my mounts seem to be sticking around now. Time will tell.

Okay....the starter quest is still bugged for me..wont advance past "buy/make furniture" part.
Things i put into my home keep disappearing..some are not even listed in my retrieve tab.
Placed mounts/pets/assistants move or go away completely with relog or even zoning.
Overall placing is a bit of a learning curve...(i came from EQ2) theirs is much easier.
Would like to be able to zoom out to view things in "purchase" have tried all button combinations to make it zoom with no success.
Cant sit in many chairs and also several my character will try to sit then get back up immediately.
Well thats my feed back...overall I like it.

[*] Was the Housing Editor easy to use?
No. The available commands are easy to use, but placing an object exactly where you want it with precision is near impossible.

Another really horrible design choice was to have the item pivot with character movement/ camera angle change. The item should only rotate when we give it a command to rotate.

Rift has a similar X Y Z system for placing down furniture that is pure perfection. Please have some of your developers take a look at Rift's system.

[*] Did you run into any issues using the Editor?
After taking days to properly see if I could somehow figure out a way to align a bed up against a wall whilst keeping it rooted to the floor AND centered under an arc, I gave up.

The addon Tinker Tools for Rift is what ESO housing should be using. It allows us to perfectly center/align objects as well as having copy/paste features that make building a wall using blocks easy, fast, and PERFECT.

Additionally, big furniture items like some beds were so up close to the camera when previewed that I could not actually see the item, despite using the rotating feature.

[*] Did you place any Collectibles such as pets, mounts or Assistants?
Yes. Placing down organic "objects" was easy, since they don't need to be in a perfect spot.

[*] Were you able to properly set permissions and see how many items were in your home?
I could see how many items were in my home. Permissions are difficult to test without a server-wide chat channel to request PTS assistance/collaboration.

[*] Do you have any other general feedback?
Housing looks amazing, but I am concerned about how frustratingly difficult it is to place objects where we want them. Please reconsider how the editor functions.

Have your developers try to place this bed perfectly centered under his arc, aligned with both the floor and up against the railing. They should be experiencing the same frustration I am.
If they are not, I suggest a tutorial series on how they quickly went about placing the bed.

It is paramount that our character movement not influence the movement of the furniture item. We should be able to walk all around the object and only have it move when we instruct it to do so. This would greatly help us look at an object from all angles to make sure it is properly in place.

I have an idea for how to do the housing storage. All houses will have a shared inventory, which you will be able to access from some your furniture.
They will have builtin filters, chests will show all items, cupboards will only show your food, crates and boxes will show your furniture, armor and weapon stands will show your armor and weapons (which you will be able to equip to them form their inventory), you will be able to equip books to bookcases from their inventory...
An npc will sell you inventory space for gold or crowns (like the npc who upgrades your bag space) and it will be gated behind your first house of each type (up to 10 for free room, 20 for your first appartment ...).
    Sorry for my English.

I've noticed that when I leave my merchant/banker/mounts/pets in a house (or yard), many disappear when I leave and come back (log off and on).

Also, my visitors are only able to access my primary residence -- this may be as intended.

Visitors should be able to access your primary house at any time (even when you're offline), and any of your other houses only when you're online and inside yourself.

I don't like the limited way in which decorators can help decorate the house. Either enable decorators (or make an entirely new permission tier above them) to place furnishing from their own inventory. This way the the owner of the house doesn't have to stupidly drop a bunch of furnishing items in some corner for the decorator that then has to stupidly run back and forth to move them. If the decorator doesn't have any items the house owner can just give those to him via trade and we're good.

Another version/addition would be that the house has it's on furnishing storage which works like the guild bank - except only for furniture. This way the house can be decorated by anyone with permission to the houses furniture storage even if the owner isn't online. Also it would alleviate the silly amount of load furniture is going to make on players inventories if this goes live as it is.

Now what about furniture purchased with crowns though you might think. I think if above solution is used crown purchased furnishing can only be taken into the inventory of the original purchaser OR deposited in the furnishing storage of the house. Players who have not purchased a specific item placed by someone else should not be able to claim it for themselves as real world money is involved here. Perhaps a feature for returning an item to original the owner via mail option would be nice too.

    Just some thoughts.
  • Evildeadgirl
I agree about the decorator option. My husband and I both play and thought it would be nice for us to share our items we make in different houses. How disappointing it was that he could only move items that I had already placed in my house, but could not place his own items though I had him as a decorator.

With the limited permissions you can grant to individuals, it would be nice to add another role that will allow someone to "truely decorate" (i.e. add items). If the owner doesn't like the changes, they should have the ability to return the object to the decorator that added the item, or revert the house to the previous version.

Ive had a few issues with the housing editor and house furnishing in general:
    1. placing big items such as trees is a bit of a pain in the ass as you cant see the whole thing as you place it so its hard to align it properly, would be good if you could zoom out more when placing things
    2. It would be good if you could align items to other items or on other axes rather than just the base eg chairs, if you click to align them with a wall, it puts the base of the chair on the wall rather than aligning the back of the chair with the wall.
    3. ive had trouble with some items that i have placed disappearing, when i leave the house then come back later they are gone, not back in my inventory but just gone. Has happened with a brazier and a chandelier so far.
    4. its really annoying that pets and mounts don't have their basic animations, they look really weird just standing there like statues, i probably wont have them in my house if they don't move at all
    5. The crown store previews are super messed up (see pics), really need to be able to zoom out on previews so you can actually see what you are buying. Would also be good to have a preview when crafting or buying items with gold.
    6. the prices in the crown store also seem craze, 400 for a tree? and then i found the same tree for 360 gold from a vendor?? crown price seems wayyyyyyy too much.
    7. the organisation of items is also a bit annoying, it should be organised by type of item not room, eg. have light sources as one category with candles, lamps, fires, braziers etc as sub categories rather than having these spread out across different categories, it makes it hard to find items and many items that you have classified as being for a specific room, im not actually using in that room at all so the room categorisation really makes no sense.
    8. I wish there were more decoration items to do with crafting that we could place around out crafting stations to make them look not so bare and out of place.... ie a few different forges would be good, the only one i found was the nibbinese one which is ridiculously huge

Overall though I really like housing and am having heaps of fun!

Today, I also got the glitch with items missing. In the house which I finished decorating yesterday I had placed two cats (non-combat pets), of which one was missing today (missing collectibles I had before). But also a pillow I had placed is completely gone. It's neither in my inventory, nor can I retrieve (or re-place) it through the editor.

Just began the process, and most things seem smooth and intuitive. I did purchase a Blacksmith Forge, and placed it in an outside area of the Daggerfall estate.
It seemed OK, but after I left and returned it was gone. And it doesn't register anywhere in my list of available items. It does show as a "purshaseable item" in the crown store.
I didn't yet purchase it again. But I will give it another try.

I agree, make another tier above decorator - co-owner, companion, landlord, whatever - that can place AND move items. I guess the concern is a potential for theft (?), but when setting that permission, layer on the "ONLY DO THIS WITH PEOPLE YOU TRUST" common sense warning and leave it to personal responsibility. Perhaps limit it to only one other person can have that role.

We need an "undo" feature or "return to default" (where we save a "default" template in case we *** something up).

I also wish there was an "snap to grid" or "snap to wall/floor/ceiling" option, although I imagine that would be difficult to implement from a technical standpoint since I don't think the houses and objects were designed to fit a grid system.

A Guest designated as a Decorator is not able to retrieve from house inventory, so if an item is clipped into a wall, they are unable to take it back to rotate it differently. This is a problem for someone who is decorating a guild hall for the guild master, or who is being paid to decorate a house for another player.

Could you please reconsider the furniture that comes with a "furnished" version of Mathiisen Manor? There are a disproportionate amount of low rectangular tables that there is simply no purpose for. I have ten of them stacked in a corner right now and there are still more in another room entirely. Could you possibly replace the multitude of low rectangular tables with some decorative items like urns, lighting, and accessories? Perhaps at least one "Grand" size Table? I had to import from a different property to make a meeting hall. Places like Forsaken Stronghold at least come with a bunch of sconces, chandeliers and candles. There is nothing like that in this property. Please and thank you.

Unfortunately, there was no chance even to try because of a nasty bug (can't download). But I watched a lot of video and read description

Two things are already really miss.

    - A storage where I can store my furnitures before I will place in my house.
This is not an inventory or bank just a warehouse for furniture. That sounds uncomfortable to be running between crafting station and house because no more inventory space to new furnitures.
Maybe only 100 warehouse space to everyone and unlimited space to ESO+ members.

    - I can't put new furnitures into my friends house (If I have privillage) or remove. Remove = put back into friend's warehouse.
Ok I know there are many furnitres that can't be traded, but there are many can. Theese items would be placeable.

Housing Editor - easy to use and I like it. I agree with the posts that say the categories maybe could be a lot better. As stated, the placement controls are a bit fickle to figure out.

Baggage space - I agree with the comments to NOT include house items in general bag inventory!!! I could see this being really bad for people that don't have craft bag and are moving items around in a house or between homes.

Placing Pets / Mounts - I placed Mounts at each of my homes, however I found the 'exotic' ones (Nightmare horse, Droth senche (the black with blue lightning in it one, can't remember the exact name), Frost Mare, etc. all had disappeared when I logged back in. They were in my editor inventory again so not 'lost' but gone from where I had placed them. I agree that we need to place more, that's why I would buy a big property with a big house!

Items disappearing : I had moved a section of counter from one home to another and when I logged in the next day it was gone. The food that had been on top of it was sitting in mid air. I could walk where the counter was though, so it wasn't just invisible. It was NOT back in my editor inventory, nor was it back at the house where I took it from.

Items out of reach : I bought hanging lanterns in Crown store, but placed one too high in the ceiling - I can see the bottom of it but can no longer grab it to move it :( It doesn't highlight any more.

Bench Disappeared : I bought the round bench from Crown store for the garden, placed it - next day it was gone and not back in my inventory either.

Achievements all seem to happen when they should. Have not found any other blueprints than the one in a satchel the first day.

Did not check for number of items etc. yet.

Storage : I still say we need to be able to craft a box or chest or trunk for added storage. A rare recipe or expensive purchase but the option should be there. Will give subs another place to store armor sets they pick up and non-subs an option past bag and bank. Even if its not bottomless like Skyrim but has a limited capacity but you could purchase/craft as many as you want and can afford.

    Bug

In editor mode, if a Decorator attempts to move an item at the same time as another Decorator, the items will freeze in mid air and return the message "This item is being moved by another player", though it is not. The item will then become unmoveable.

It would be extremely helpful if there was a way to group objects together so they stay in the same position relative to each other but can be moved around.

For example if I place a table and then place objects on top of it, then realise I need to move the table even slightly I have to either remove all those objects and put them back or leave them hovering in the air until I've placed the table and then move them across.

(Or when I was creating a parapet for Mournoth Keep, along the front wall, I realised I hadn't left enough room for steps and had to move all 10 stone slabs very slightly to the left. It would have saved me a huge amount of time to be able to select the whole lot and move them together.)

I don't think ESO uses a grid system so 'snap to grid' probably isn't possible, but snap to wall/floor/ceiling is.

There's an automatic version, called 'Surface Drag' which can be turned on or off with T. When it's on objects will 'stick' to surfaces, they'll automatically move up or down to be in line with whatever surface you're targeting so they won't hover above them or clip through them and will only clip though objects beside them slightly.

There's also a manual version called 'Align' which is bound to right-click. This will rotate the object so it's the right way around for that surface (for example if you Align a plate to the wall it will be standing upright and roated so it's flat against that wall).

It's not perfect, especially on uneven ground. I had a lot of trouble trying to place a small tent on the ground outside Mournoth Keep because I used Align and it aligned it to the one little bit of ground I was targeting but that made the overall position look like it was falling over sideways. In that case I found it was easier to do it manually.

I also had problems with tapestries - if you right-click to align them to a wall it places them horizontally, you have to align them to the floor to get them to stand up vertically and then manually position them against the wall.

So it could use some work, but the option is there.

There seems to be a bug where occasionally items disappear from houses after being placed.

My mounts and pets are removed almost every time I log off (sometimes just 1 or 2, sometimes all of them). But today I noticed that a table and rug had both vanished and were no longer listed in the retrieve menu or in my inventory to be placed. This is especially concerning because I purchased both of them from the crown store.

On the PTS that's not an issue but I'd be extremely worried if an item I'd purchased on the Live server with crowns disappeared like that. Many of the furnishings are not cheap for what you get, and as there's no purchase history I'd have no way to prove I ever owned it in order to work with Support to get it back.

The house in question is Mournoth Keep (which I purchased unfurnished with crowns).

The rug was the 'Redguard Carpet, Oasis'. The table I don't remember exactly, I think it was most likely the 'Breton Table, Dining' (because the chairs I used are all breton ones) but honestly I just picked a dining table from the list. Both were placed a few days ago and were there when I logged off about 13 hours ago but are not there today. I have double checked both the Retrieve menu and my inventory and bank and they're not there.

(It's possible that other items have vanished without me noticing, most of what I've placed in this house is plants and trees which I was trying to make look natural, so one missing might not stand out. I've also spent a lot of time skipping between houses placing random objects just to test ideas and I wouldn't trust myself to remember them all. But these two were definitely there and now are definitely gone.)

I agree we should be allowed more pets and mounts to be placed 10-20 would be great. Housing guests caps should be higher as well. Why not allow us to buy more space as with bank and bags such as 25, 50 and 75 guests.
I'm kinda disappointed that most houses don't have cellars especially the larger ones.

Crafting table placement is beyond finnicky into just plain unbearable on Forsaken Stronghold. Haven't tested with other houses but I recorded a video for yon perusal:

    https://youtu.be/d09ukfs6xV0

But basically if you try placing it on a slope, or near walls, or on uneven ground, or near grass, or near other peaceable objects, or try to re-place it without putting it away first... it won't be interactable most of the time. Makes them effectively useless. Either I'm doing something horrifically wrong or it's one of the most user unfriendly things I have had to deal with in a game.
