PTS Feedback Thread for the Housing Editor

Was the Housing Editor easy to use?
    Mostly.
Note that I did read the PTS Patch Notes and did not read in-game Help files, since I was trying to test as a typical player would :).

I really do not like the strange, room-based categories for finding objects. Why are Rugs & Carpets listed under Parlor rather than Dining or Library? I don't know! Why does wall Art come under Gallery rather than any of the other rooms? I don't know!!

I honestly spent several minutes trying to find objects because they weren't where I expected them to be. Suggestion: Check out how Sims 2 does object placement. That game had both room-based and category-based object placement in Build and Buy Mode, and (assuming you weren't dealing with badly-categorised Custom Content), you could always find the item you wanted.

Did you run into any issues using the Editor?
I had some trouble getting items lined up properly. The lack of up and down movement was particularly a problem when trying to place Banners on walls, and Rugs on floors. I ended up with a rug cutting through the legs of the table, chairs, and bed.

I was very confused about what exactly "Surface Drag On/Off" meant, so ended up aligning items to completely incorrect parallel surfaces.
Placing a Banner on the wall: https://www.twitch.tv/baratrongirl/v/113218840

I also had the problem of items which were supposed to go on the floor ending up floating in mid-air.

It confused me that when you move a table, the items on the table do not move with it. I expected them to snap together.

Did you place any Collectibles such as pets, mounts or Assistants?
Yes. But they don't animate. So the house looks "dead".

Were you able to properly set permissions and see how many items were in your home?
No. The Guild permissions don't work properly. This is listed under Known Issues though, so I wasn't that bothered.

It's easy to see how many items are in your home.

Do you have any other general feedback?

I spent a frustrating hour attempting to place and move stuff because I couldn't move while in editor mode. Lining stuff up was impossible without standing directly in front of where I wanted to put something, placing it as best I could, and then I would have to exit the editor and reposition myself for any changes I needed to make, go back into the editor, position again, etc.

Since everyone was praising the editor, I thought either I was really bad at this or something wasn't right. I then decided to reset keybindings to default and suddenly, I was able to move in the editor using the WASD keys while trying to place items. Placing objects where I wanted them was much easier because I was able to move and adjust.

I don't use WASD because I find them awkward. I use, for example, E for moving forward instead of W, allowing my fingers to sit naturally on the keyboard as they do when typing normally.

While in editor mode, E does not move you forward. It just makes a little "bonking" kind of noise like you're doing something wrong. As of right now, I have to rebind my movement keys to default when decorating and then rebind them back to my comfortable keys when I actually play the game.

Not sure if this is something that can be looked into, but it would be nice if I didn't have to rebind keys just to decorate.

    Bugs

I'm sure this has been said many times, but serious issue are disappearing items after setting them out. At first I thought these items were only disappearing due to them being collectibles (merchant, banker, pets, mounts), this is not the case. Many achievement items I've set out inside the home disappeared. These items were floating as well as setting on surfaces with align function. However, items are also disappearing outside, one of trees vanished.
    • Achievement items inside the house and outside disappear
    • Non-achievement items inside and outside the house disappear
    • Crown store items / non crown store items / crafted / vendor bought items disappear
    • Aligned on surface / not aligned on surface items disappear
    • Seems to be random items
    • Typically occurs when I step out of the house area / log out

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE INCREASE THE LIGHTING INSIDE THE HOUSES!!! Seriously, I got so many headaches / a migraine and had to just stop editing b/c the dark light strained my eyes so badly - literally, it made me feel nauseous (Mournoth Keep (sp), Dromo Phrasticus, I'm sure literally ever other place). I get we don't have electricity, but a game shouldn't make me physically ill either...)

Wish the categories were searchable. I.e type "lighting" and a screen page with every light available will pop up in a list.

Also, before I purchase an item say a chandelier, it would be nice to put the item in place to see if I like it. Then have the option to purchase it.

    - For me it took 5 minutes to get use to editor, I was little lost with placing and aligning. After that it worked like magic. I started with a small house, Inns and Apartments are even better to practice.

Did you run into any issues using the Editor?
    - Many banners are previewed underground, so you can only see little top part. Not an issue on pts, might be on live.
    - Align -function rotates objects weird position hen pressed a few times.

Did you place any Collectibles such as pets, mounts or Assistants?
    - I placed Wrothgar ice wrath, it floated nicely with animation

Were you able to properly set permissions and see how many items were in your home?
    - didn't try

Do you have any other general feedback?
    - Editor is amazing, after getting used to dimension. And possibilities to decorate are amazing, as well. I could easily find items to fit my charecters
(- I'm quite sure I was able to place large rugs on apartments without a problem)

Was the Housing Editor easy to use?

For the most part. Because of unusual collision in spots, placing items can be difficult.

Did you run into any issues using the Editor?

I had trouble placing hanging braziers in some areas. Maybe from a lack of collision?

Did you place any Collectibles such as pets, mounts or Assistants?

Yes, and every single one of them vanished. Placed mounts and pets, but now they are no longer where I put them. Even tried rezoning and reloading UI.

Were you able to properly set permissions and see how many items were in your home?

Haven't tested this, as I have no one to help test.

Do you have any other general feedback?

Being able to buy a Bard would be nice...Would love to be able to listen to Malukah sing while I decorate or entertain :) As others have said, there's some Z fighting in Orc stairwells. The slaughterfish inside some of the water features of housing is a bit off-putting. Just when I thought it was safe to go into the water...NOMNOMNOM!!

The biggest issue here was that F5 put me into a crouch for thieving and not into the housing editor. I eventually solved this with F-lock, but I do expect F5 to work without my having to do that.

Did you place any Collectibles such as pets, mounts or Assistants?

I placed my mounts and both assistants. The mounts just stand there, they don't move or display themselves. I"m not quite sure where to find stalls for them either, but maybe that's some furnishing I haven'[t found yet. The assistants don't stay. When I went away and came back later looking for them, they were gone. At first it seemed you could place them in each home, but I guess they are just temporary when I am logged in. My visitors can't use them. I would really like a permanent merchant and banker, especially for the Guild Home, though at 5000 crowns apiece that's kinda dear. I have already been waiting for a sale so I could get a banker to take along with me to crafting stations in the wild.

Were you able to properly set permissions and see how many items were in your home?

This was entirely unintuitive. I hunted high and low for permissions - I knew they were there as every time I went to a new house I was offered the option to copy them. I tried calling up the houses and right-clicking them. Nothing. Eventually someone in-game told me they were in decorating. Yeah. Under Settings. Not somewhere I would think to look, to be honest. Also, I have no ideas what a Decorator permission is, even though I gave my husband that option. He doesn't get an option to decorate that I can see. I have no idea how many items are in my home. Nor do I have any idea how many visitors I am allowed.

Do you have any other general feedback?

I struggled to find the quest for the free apartment. Eventually I picked up the information in zone chat. I have tried to find the quests for the other houses, but they are also not that obvious.

I really like the attuned crafting stations. I put a Julianos set into my Guild Home, and would like to put other nice DLC crafting stations in.

It would be nice to be able to buy a set of furnishings for a home separately from the home. At the moment you can buy a furnished home with crowns, and an unfurnished one with gold. But if you buy an unfurnished home, however you get it, there's no option to change your mind and hire a contractor to furnish it for you later, either with gold or with crowns.

I tried sitting on a bench I crafted, and the character sat through the bench then stood up again. (Edit: she now remains sitting, but still sits through chair. I took a screenshot.)I haven't had much option to interact with furnishings, which is a pity. I am waiting for the EU server to be copied across so I can see what happens with my Shalidor library.

Also, I had to create a new character, so she got everything she needed for crafting. I am curious to find out what happens with my established characters: is it going to be a long slow slog to get furniture blueprints, or will some basic ones be included at the crafting stations, like armour and weapons.

The more i play with it the more i am surprised about the the amount of things you are able to do! What i do miss is the posibility to give people the permission to craft things. especially in the manors. these could become guild halls if that option would be available.

Why should i buy a large house or a manor if other people cant really do annything in it...

I've been playing around with the editor a bit. Generally I find it easy to use and in most parts intuitive.
At first it took me a while to figure out how to actually place something, since for every other action the key to use was shown. It might be helpful if the keybind for placing items (left mouse button by default) was visible in editor mode as well.

I also placed some of my pets and mounts in the homes. At one occasion my wolf mount had dissappeared after a relog, but I could just place it again.

In addition to some pets being in a strange category in the editor, this goes for some mounts as well - the lion mount for example can be found unter "wolves". Since there is a "felines" category for pets, I'd assume there to be one for mounts as well.

Furthermore, I'd find it helpful, if all objects had a glow about them, if they go through walls or other objects or are floating, not only crafting stations. The objects should still be placable, but this visual indicator would help with positioning.

I'm quite a bit disappointed you can't place items in another person's house. You can only move existing items.

Is there a way you could add a seperate permission, so decorators could also add their own items to an existing house? This would be kinda neat so you don't have to trade every single item to the owner. I guess this could work like guild permissions do.

Being able to mount in your house (especially in Craglorn Cave and the Island) would also be neat.

    Much appreciated.

Was the Housing Editor easy to use?
First I must say that Homestead is great. I'm having a lot of fun messing around with it. My chief issue with Editor is, I feel the inventory system is cumbersome. I do not like that the items are sorted by room type, as you can use a simple chair or stool in any room but they might be found in either "Parlor," "Suite", or even "Workshop." I feel that the categories should be simplified to "FLOORING," "SEATING," "LIGHTING," and so forth. When I want to find a rug, I want to look in a section called FLOORING. Instead, I have to search and search. I felt it became frustrating when I had to search for a lantern in many different categories only to find it in "Workshop," yet other similar items are found in "Suite". Furthermore, why is "Dye station" in "Hearth"? Shouldn't all workshop tables be in "Workshop"?

Also, the crafting stations are not consistent. Why do I make a wooden table at the Enchanting station?

Did you run into any issues using the Editor?
I found myself wishing that items could snap together, like table ends or corners, as it took many adjustments and changes of camera angles (third to first person) to ensure something was either straight or flat. Then when i walked around the object, i would find it was skewed out on another side and not straight at all. I wish that in Editor, a grid could appear on the ground to show if a table is perpendicular or parallel, etc.

Also, when in editor, it only says you can press R to browse. It does not indicate you can press E to select the item that may be highlighted.

If you place certain items in a house and then go into a town and back to the house, the items will be gone. Example: Khajiit canopy bed, Argonian strand of lanterns.

Did you place any Collectibles such as pets, mounts or Assistants?
Yes, but when I logged out and in with a different character, the mounts and assistants were gone.

Were you able to properly set permissions and see how many items were in your home?
I set permissions, but when my friend came to edit and decorate with me, he could not access the inventory of the house and only could move what was within view. For instance, he would be unable to carry an item outside the house and place it in the front yard. He could only move what was in the front yard.

Do you have any other general feedback?
With items being as costly to make as they are, it's a real bummer to make something and then find out when you try to place it that it's not a very good fit. I wouldn't know how to get around that other than a better 'preview' system.
Also, Forsaken Stronghold has a tower on the left side of the house, but the only way to the top is through the house, which is a long run. Would you consider adding a hatch door?

Housing Editor Preview needs work, Large items can't be previewed, you get the base of the lamp posts, artwork is stuck in the floor even some of the lamps are like this. structures like carts and tents, forget it you can't see them they are just showing how the grain of wood flows...you don't see the entire item just a small bit of it. Black smitthing station...your camera is inside it so you just see maybe the bottom portion of the flaming coal textures.

Placement when you have multiple copies of the same item. Make it so you put out only one item at a time. Though it is possible to hit R again to 'put away' the second item after you've put down the first item...it's not intuitive. So either put some hints onscreen or just have it so you can't infinitely duplicate the same item without any assistance on how to stop putting them out. Not everyone is a world builder so this screen needs to be simple and easy to use. I DO see the helpfulness of this multiple replication task in placing things like rocks, trees, flowers but for most people they are looking to put down a crafting station, or single piece of furniture.

Animations for placed pets/horses because it's really weird and immersion breaking when they just stand there.
Agreed. The "just standing there" thing is rather creepy. Even if they don't do much, they need to do something. Horses should shake their heads around and pat the ground. Dogs should sit and scratch or lie down. Cats should groom themselves or curl up. Etc.
Mounts and pets should have some slightly movement to them. Granted they won't walk around or do anything crazy, but it should be the same movements you see when you're normally sitting on them (for mounts, anyway).

My placed Guar is definitely pretending to be a statue and doing very well at it.

Thanks to either unclear instructions or a huge bug, the attuneable crafting station vanished from my inventory. With the super high cost of mats for the writs, it just isn't worth it if I risk the item vanishing.

Forsaken Stronghold - At the bottom of the stairs, bottom floor of the tower outbuilding, there is an invisible block preventing you from advancing up the stairs. You can move around it to go up the stairs, but it's there. It is not there going back down the stairs.

In general: Frequently, items created OUTSIDE the house are only in the builders inventory when I am OUTSIDE the house. When I go back inside, things i created when i was inside are now in the inventory. This is sometimes fixed by relogging.

I keep getting a bug where my collectables (mounts and pets) don't stay where I've placed them.

Every time I visit Mourmoth Keep I put my white mane horse outside, under an awning and every time I leave and re-enter it's gone again. Yesterday I also placed the striped senche-panther (pet, not mount) and monkey pet and they disappeared too.

I think it's happening after I preview another house and toggle between furnished and unfurnished views, but I'm not completely sure.

Was the Housing Editor easy to use?

Based on my previous use of the Morrowind Construction Kit this was easily understandable if not as robust as I had hoped for.

Did you run into any issues using the Editor?

I did have some issues wherein I would place an item and it would no longer be selectable from the world and I would have to "put it away" using the retrieve tab. I also had issues with putting away items preplaced on shelves and them not showing up in the "place" list. I was hoping that all furnishings that could be bought or made would be move able if a home was purchased and they already existed. Unfortunately this is not the case, for example, the kelp on the beach of the Hunding's Palatial Hall.

Did you place any Collectibles such as pets, mounts or Assistants?

I placed all three assistants, a monkey, and a fennec fox. They worked fine in the house at the time. I logged off and back on the next day and only the smuggler remained placed. I also attempted to summon my smuggler while out thieving, after placing her in a home. I couldn't.

Were you able to properly set permissions and see how many items were in your home?

Yes to permissions. I could say though I had hoped that I would be able to set the houses as a different primary per guild that wayou if a person was guild leader of more than one guild they would be able to have a guild house designated per guild and it would be visitable whilst they were offline.

Yes to seeing the number of items. I am not sure that the number of collectable hooks per house is adequate. It seems low especially for a location which has a main purpose of showing off your things.

Do you have any other general feedback?

    1. Add fishing holes to homes with water features or the ability to craft and place them from Provisioning furnishing recipes? While testing the Housing Editor at Hunding's Palatial Hall, and looking out upon the ocean vista it looked so ...dead. Not a single fishing hole! (But plenty of slaughterfish)

    2. Add purchasable/craftable nodes by craft. Alchemy Gardens? Provisioning Gardens? Clothering gardens? Furtraps?Ore mines? Woodlots? Rune...piles? (pretty much whatever asset you use for surveys). With the requirements (both material wise and skillpoint wise) of master crafting writs, it would make sense for you to be able to have another source of materials at the house so you are not spending all your time out in the world harvesting enough materials, instead of enjoying your house and furnishings.

    3. Seperate Storage for furniture set up like that of craft bags?

    4. Resale ability of the whole house with or without decor (obviously not collectables or achievement based stuff though) on guild stores?(interior decorator's would rejoice!)

    5. Some type of discount if you own another house in the area?

    6. lvl 1 animals? ( squirrels, snakes, spiders, etc.) Because of how dead the place looks without some movement.

I've been testing out the editor for a few days now, here are the issues I have encountered

    Missing Features:
Important features that the system needs in order to be usable, but aren't currently implemented

    • Toggleable Object Snap Grid/Rotational Snap; self-explanatory, makes it actually possible to make good looking things without excessive time and effort spent trying to line them up.

    • Precision Rotation; rotate exactly 45, 90, 180, etc. rather than having to guess and check

    • Axial Movement Controls; It is impossible to get any two things to line up without spending ten minutes on each object.
this is mostly due to the fact that you can’t slide objects in a straight line, but can only pivot them around you.

    • Flying Camera Mode; being required to physically walk your character around to place objects is incredibly limiting. Often to get a decent angle to place something you have to make ridiculous stacks of objects to climb on (I had to stack a tower of bear mounts to get high enough to make an addition to my fountain. Quite an interesting sight.)

    Useful Features:
Features that would be nice, but aren’t deal breakers if not implemented

    • Grouping objects to be moved together (Ex, a shine built of many pieces could be set to be moved all at once). Also a way to duplicate if you have the right items would be nice.

    • Object scaling; there are a bunch of things that are too large to fit indoors, but otherwise should logically be there (Ex, The Tribunal shrine). A limited scaling feature would do wonders if you give objects a logical ratio that they can be scaled within. This would give each object far more potential uses.

    • An “Undo” Function

    • Click and drag selection/multiple object selection

    General Issues:
    Glitches/Eccentricities I have encountered

    • Many carpets are impossible to move without using the retrieve feature.

    • Many wall decorations sit the wrong way when aligned to a wall, and instead have to be aligned to the floor first.

    • Many objects will change their angle on other axis if when you rotate them (Ex, rotate on the Z axis, it ends up lopsided on the Y axis).

    • When selecting objects your camera jumps to the "base" of the object, but often that is not where you need to see when moving it, it would be much better if the camera stayed where it was.

    • Objects have a tendency to shift slightly when you lock them into place.

    • When using cursor mode to rotate an object, the rotation wheels can be covered up by other objects or walls/floors that the object intersects. Making them visible at all times would fix this.

    • Some objects don’t have their center point in the center (Ex, The Tribunal shrine has its "center" closer to the Ayem/Seht corner)

    • When previewing many items, they can’t be seen because they are in the ground, or are just too big to see.

    • Collision is often sporadic, sometimes after placing items that are normally solid, you can fall or walk right through them

I managed to break another item so it could no longer be selected -
    • Wedding Lantern.

It was working fine for a while, was able to place it several times. Then I flipped it upside down and placed it a couple more times, by third placement it became unselectable (could not highlight it and pick it up again).

This potentially means any item might bug out like this.

Ive had a few issues with the housing editor and house furnishing in general:
    1. placing big items such as trees is a bit of a pain in the ass as you cant see the whole thing as you place it so its hard to align it properly, would be good if you could zoom out more when placing things
    2. It would be good if you could align items to other items or on other axes rather than just the base eg chairs, if you click to align them with a wall, it puts the base of the chair on the wall rather than aligning the back of the chair with the wall.
    3. ive had trouble with some items that i have placed disappearing, when i leave the house then come back later they are gone, not back in my inventory but just gone. Has happened with a brazier and a chandelier so far.
    4. its really annoying that pets and mounts don't have their basic animations, they look really weird just standing there like statues, i probably wont have them in my house if they don't move at all
    5. The crown store previews are super messed up (see pics), really need to be able to zoom out on previews so you can actually see what you are buying. Would also be good to have a preview when crafting or buying items with gold.
    6. the prices in the crown store also seem craze, 400 for a tree? and then i found the same tree for 360 gold from a vendor?? crown price seems wayyyyyyy too much.
    7. the organisation of items is also a bit annoying, it should be organised by type of item not room, eg. have light sources as one category with candles, lamps, fires, braziers etc as sub categories rather than having these spread out across different categories, it makes it hard to find items and many items that you have classified as being for a specific room, im not actually using in that room at all so the room categorisation really makes no sense.
    8. I wish there were more decoration items to do with crafting that we could place around out crafting stations to make them look not so bare and out of place.... ie a few different forges would be good, the only one i found was the nibbinese one which is ridiculously huge

Overall though I really like housing and am having heaps of fun!

Was the Housing Editor easy to use?
No. It's ok for throwing down a table or a rug or something, but for anything more creative that requires alignment/composition of several items it simply doesn't do its job. We need to be able to adjust x, y, z world positions freely, not fixed from character camera's perspective.
Do you have any other general feedback?
A scaling feature would be wonderful for certain categories and items, namely those that are obviously mean as building blocks for larger features (planks, blocks etc.). To add to that, some prefab walls we can throw down and scale would improve what we can do with the editor tenfold.

This is the official feedback thread for the housing editor. Specific feedback that the team is looking for includes the following:
    • Was the Housing Editor easy to use?
    • Did you run into any issues using the Editor?
    • Did you place any Collectibles such as pets, mounts or Assistants?
    • Were you able to properly set permissions and see how many items were in your home?
    • Do you have any other general feedback?

The housing editor is pretty easy to use,but it needs one addition. An assisstor to clip objects horizontally to the ground, because sometimes its a pain in the neck to carefully adjust objects to lay perfectly on an even smooth surface

When people say "I placed this item and couldn't re-place it," Just go to Retrieve and select it from there. It simply is clipped into a wall or other object too far.

Was the Housing Editor easy to use?
Took a few minutes of using it and now it's very easy.

Did you run into any issues using the Editor?
Frequently i have to /reloadui because the editor shows something i already placed still being in my inventory. I also frequently cannot access something outside the house to move it inside. Sometimes, I can. So it's a little inconsistent.
"Hearth" and "Dining" categories appear twice in the editor.

Did you place any Collectibles such as pets, mounts or Assistants?
Yes. They disappear when you leave and return to the property.
Other times, if you move the assistant, pet or mount, set it somewhere else, then leave and return to the property, the item will have moved back to its former spot.

Were you able to properly set permissions and see how many items were in your home?
    Yes, it was very simple.

Do you have any other general feedback?
I would like to be able to rotate something 90 degrees. As it is now, it's very difficult to rotate a book to line up with a shelf properly. Takes a lot of squinting, zooming in, and fiddling to have the item appear to be straight.
Book sets open to have each individual item in the inventory and it's time consuming to place each one, together, as a set on a shelf.
Given that we can't store items in a chest in the house, it becomes very bulky in the inventory to have sets of books for instance. I only placed a few of each kind that I liked, but now i have tons of the others in my inventory and there is no where to store them (bank space too precious for these multitudinous items).

I reached the housing item limit last night.

The very large Medium home that I chose to decorate, Mournoth Keep, feels very empty even with 400 items. I'm concerned about the 400 item limit even for people with ESO plus. I ran around all the zones buying all the trophies to take a look at them, and only placed a select few. Even increasing this limit to 500 would make the house seem less sparse. And this was in a Medium house. There's no way a Large house, with twice the empty space, would feel any less empty with only a 600 item limit. I can't imagine the disappointment one will feel when they try this with a manor, as I tried with a Large house and soon realized this could be a likely outcome. I really hope you reconsider the item limit to at least 500 on a Medium house.

Another suggestion I would make is to allow a trophy item to not count toward the total. I notice there is a separate section for "trophy" and you can add 20 of them. However, after adding all the achievement items I see these are not counted as "trophies." I can't tell what a Trophy is, in the PTS, unless you mean something you get in the future from completing a dungeon, which my PTS characters do not have at this time.

I really ask you to change items like the Cheese Cutter and the Skyshard to not count toward item total. These items should make your homestead appear richer and more diverse than a homestead that does not have achievement trophies. If you made a separate section for those and only allowed 20 to be displayed at a time that would also be a wonderful solution.
