PTS Feedback Thread for the Housing Editor

I loved the housing editor. It did take a little shuffling through, but overall, the system works very well.

    Feedback/Wants/Glitches
More vibrant colors for furniture-redder reds, bluer blues. A lot of the colors are very matte/faded.
    More comfortable-looking/cushy furniture.
Ability to view trees wholly; right now, just their trunks show in the preview.
Some of the other item previews aren't rendering properly, or it's difficult to see the whole item because it is too large for the screen.

Here is my house so far :)

    Really excited about this update.

•Was the Housing Editor easy to use?
Mostly yes. Difficulties arose from trying to be exact in placement. Having to rely on character movement and mouse movement rather than 3D positioning using keys alone made placement very hairy when one is trying to line things up exactly. (OK, I could go in and change my control scheme to make it work ,but that's not the point).

•Did you run into any issues using the Editor?
Was hard to tell if an item was usable. To me, the "yellow outline" meant intrinsically that the item would be "ok", I have since learned it was the opposite, but this is not clear. Caused much of a headache while trying to use crafting stations.

•Did you place any Collectibles such as pets, mounts or Assistants?
Pets, mounts, and Assistants could all be placed easily and with as much versatility as any other furnishing. This was a pro and a con though, as I feel that the placement coding precluded more extensive animations, causing them all to be rather stiff and eerie. Not having my pets move made me sad, for instance. I understand mounts being more stationary, and even the Assistants, but it was something I was hoping for, roaming around my house with my dog or dwemer sphere. Also, they disappeared after being placed when returning to my house.

•Were you able to properly set permissions and see how many items were in your home?
Permissions seemed to work well, as did the item count.

•Do you have any other general feedback?
Besides what is above, I have some suggestions/comments. Having a single candlestick count as much as a gazebo made me very sad. For small houses, this is not much of an issue, but for larger ones, like the Craglorn cavern, or the top-tier alliance manors, it means that I have to sacrifice detail for substance. I understand the limitation from memory/coding, but as others suggested, a good way to adapt this is to allow item sizing. Further, the sheer number of available furnishings, while wonderful, completely annihilated my inventory. If I wanted to be able to rotate furnishings, or have accumulated more than I can fit in the houses I currently can afford, I am stuck with them cluttering my bank (or a guild bank).

    Hello,

The editor was easy to use but I would like to be able to move around freely in the 3D space and to be able to change days into nights. I would say that the lack of those two features were the only issue I had while testing the editor.
I would also like to move multiple objects at once, for example: moving a table and whatever it's on top of it (currently I have to move the table plus every single object that it is on top of it).

I did use some pets, mounts and assistants but every time I got out of the instance and got back in, they were "missing". Back into the inventory. For what it's worth, in my opinion, cap of eight collectibles is an unfair number due the size of some houses and the amount of collectibles some players have.

No problems with permission or seeing how many items were in my home. By the way, great job with the retrieve menu on the housing editor. Had some problems while placing some carpets and then not being able to modify them anymore and that feature saved me!

Overall... Great job with the editor. Cant wait for it to go live! ^^

P.S. - Attached goes some of my testing =)

Edit: Cap of 600 items is not enough for me =p
Edit 2: When i say move around freely in the 3D Space I mean move around without being stuck on my character local position.

All I have to say is please embrace and support all the crazy arenas, platforms, and other crazy things people are building.

Do NOT add invisible walls, ceilings or restrict players from walking outside of where they are supposed to go. People are thinking outside of the skybox (literally) and making amazing structures and buildings.

The videos they will make will attract people who like minecraft and get TONS of views and make a whole new demographic of people interested in this game. If you treat it as a bug and restrict where people can go, it will take something awesome and make it frustrating.

Please resist the standard ZOS urge to restrict and control. Let people run wild with their imaginations and this will bring a ton of excitement and new people to the game.

    5slu7y2cgz7y.png

People are already building amazing arenas to PvP in. But ground effects, (such as daedric mines, wall of elements) and others are dropping through the floor. If you could create an "arena layer" so that peoples abilities wont fall through, that would be awesome.

The fun people will have outweighs any "immersion" argument. Plus its instanced, if you don't want a crazy house, you can make a lore appropriate one.

    Embrace the chaos!

It's a great start, but it needs more tools, plain and simple.

Free form placement of objects worked very well. I like that I can simply click to pick something up, start moving it around, and then click to place it again. Very elegant.

I think the biggest thing we need, from here, is a way to move objects along the X, Y, and Z axes, as a few have said. Paired with that, I think we need some way to separate camera movement from character movement, preferably with some kind of noclip option, so we can change the view in order to achieve pinpoint placement accuracy. I'd settle for linear movement along all 3 axes for a start, though.

Also, the item limit is too low. It felt like it should be about twice what it is. I'm sure this is at least partly done for performance reasons, but it could use some more tweaking. As someone else pointed out, it doesn't leave room for things like elaborate table settings when every fork, spoon, plate, and apple counts as an individual object.

Anyway, really great job so far. Even with things like the seating bugs and current limits of the editor, I'm having a ton of fun. I can't wait for this to go live. :)

I STRONGLY doubt they intend to restrict this creativity beyond the bounds they already have. We have slaughterfish and invisible walls in all the places they absolutely need to be, plus the placed-item limit, so I think they've probably set to let us run wild with this. :D

I had several items vanish. Some I had placed and saved, left and when I came back they were gone. Others I removed from one house to bring to another house. They are not in my inventory anymore, and they are no where to be found. Anyone else have that happen? Every item that vanished was one I bought from an achievement vendor.

    • Was the Housing Editor easy to use?
Yes. Only problem is that sometimes I wish there were arrows for up and down movement, especially when placing items high.
    • Did you run into any issues using the Editor?
yes. I placed a "Khajiit column, spiked" on the Sleek Creek yard and tried to remove it later, gives a message saying "The furnishing could not be put in your bag"- my inventory is not full. And one cup I placed yesterday has disappeared.
    • Did you place any Collectibles such as pets, mounts or Assistants?
Yes. A bit buggy, they all keep disappearing, 1st I tought only after logging out, but now it seems to be also randomly after being away from the house. Also the only ones who do any of their idles in the house are the assistants and both abecean and house cat cats= cats sit and lick paws etc, all other pets just stand there, like the lion cub and bear cub that normally have idles chasing butterflies etc.
    • Were you able to properly set permissions and see how many items were in your home?
      Yes.
    • Do you have any other general feedback?
      I think both the item and collectibles limits should be higher: Im a subscriber and still think it could be a bit higher even though its double for subscribers. For instance a medium house with a yard has only 400 items and 6 collectibles;
Could be more like 500 and eight collectibles. 400 may fill up surprisingly fast if you want to place little objects like foodstuffs, dishes, books, flowers, or build something from planks for instance. And if you want to have 2-3 mounts for a "stable" , couple of pets outside, couple inside and, say, one assistant ;) . Ok for subs the collectible limit is not sooo bad, but for non subs, auch. Besides- more collectibles= lots more pets bought from the store. I might even buy a pig for my house though I`d propably not use it while out adventuring :)
Then, mounts: would be lovely if we could have the option to set mounts to be without their reigns and saddles when at home, like seen at stables in towns, and even set them to lie down.

Oh and one more thing for feedback: the housing items really should have a separate, account wide stash like subscribers craft bags: and this should be for non subs too. It could be limited, as long as its not in your regular inventory.

The inventory cluttering is huge, and especially if you don`t yet have craft stations at your house like most won`t when this goes live, it will be very frustrating running back and forth. And, important sort of roleplay wise wise, if you only have one crafter, your other chars could get the crafted items easily and "decorate their own place" without making the crafter your main decorator too or going through a bank hassle.

So far I can't really flaw the editor. Easy to use and a good bit of freedom to it. Awesome job.

    But 2 things to note.

1- Being able to scale certain items with a realistic locked minimum and maximum size would be great.

2- Don't underestimate people's creativity and curiosity. Make sure all the houses are textured in nooks and crannies and all hitboxes are in order. Also consider this - if there is a space, alcove, terrace, corner, whatever: if I can see it I will want to build there.

Within 5 minutes in the "The Ample Domicile" I ended up wanting to build onto the second floor extention on the inside of the house and turn it into a loft. But I found that there is a hitbox stopping you from getting up there. Logically, the hitbox should be removed and allow us to build in that extra bit of space.

I bought many planks with the free crowns we were given and created a multi story structure with floors and ramps. I left the house and came back and some of the planks are just gone. I believe it may be because the planks were too close to the instance's boundaries.

Regarding the planks, I tried crafting similar things through the crafting system. I crafted a orc block at the woodworking station and a argonian tile at the enchanting table. Considering the resources that go into those items, using crafting to create platforms just isn't going to happen.

Occasionally I would place a set of planks and I would be unable to pick it back up.

I -love- the Homestead decorating. But 700 as a limit for the big ones will not be enough. A friend of mine created a theater area for people to visit and have plays on. And that was 100 items alone. The acuall huge castle will have to be very scarsly decorated if we want to build more cool stuff like that. Atleast double that ammount. Please. I want to be able to fit everything I want in there and not have to worry about limitations.

A problem with placing items at the moment is that all the item movement is done in polar coordinates, with you at the centre. There's no Cartesian movement for fine placement, which is solely needed. For example, you can't move a table or rug a few feet to the right, because you'll end up moving it around you instead.

    From another thread:
It appears you can rotate objects with the widget when placing, is there any way to change it to at translation widget (similar to 3D editors like MAX, Maya, Unreal Engine, Unity, TES Construction Set etc) to fine tune placement.

I'm finding it nearly impossible to line up items, like a table cloth on a table.
If there were a toggle to switch Rotate to Translate, after which you could use 1-6 for linear axial movement, that would be good.

Placed crafting stations often don't function at all when I place them. Though opening them up back in the editor and replacing them, then pressing F5 (snapping them back to where they were before) some times fixes it but not always.

Well I caught a fish in craglorn that turned out to be a furniture called a Fish, Bass. I went home took it out and it was just a fish. I put it in the water behind my house, here.

I created a home for my assistants by crafting a khajiit tent.

I greatly increased my building space my buying planks from the free crowns we were given and building up.

There needs to be a square shaped plank added. That would have made things easier.

Suggestion: Item grouping, plus copy/paste function for grouped items (assuming you have spare copies of the items, naturally). Sometimes it seems that you get an absolutely perfectly-stacked food pyramid only to discover that it would really look much better just a few feet to the right. Grouping objects would help us save a LOT of hassle shuffling such things around! If we, say, wanted TWO food pyramids, a copy/paste function for those grouped objects would also save the time of individually placing extra copies of them as well. Obviously this kind of functionality won't make it to launch, but it would be a great longer-term goal, I think!

Ok, so I sub, and 700 item limit for the notable homes is way way too low. I am considering blocking off my downstairs room and putting a bookshelf in the doorway just to kill off a room I won't be able to decorate, a castle is going to be very scarcely decorated if the notable homes don't get some kind of boost. How somebody will manage on 350 in a castle is beyond me.

The other thing I would offer is currently items are vanishing when you log back in, the next day. They don't return to your bag either, they're not there where you placed them and you an't retrieve them either.

Was the Housing Editor easy to use?
Yes, Once I figured out the basics of it it was Super easy, the only thing that i would change is this, when using It have a help section to show what the X,Y,Z axis thing was and to make questions easier

Did you run into any issues using the Editor?
So This is where I think some issues arise, The editor is easy to use BUT I would Like to preview before buy and craft items, even if its a mini version to fit the scaling. Another issue, Books and Shelves, When I was trying to build a library for fun I ran into this, I could not fit the books in well, my idea for a fix is a "smart lock in place" so for items like shelves and books, incorporate a lock in place, making it easier to place the books I bought from the mages guild, and letting me place books easier, another comment to this would be a wall, I personally made a wall to make a small study in the Daggerfall outlook, It was super painful to make. This brings me to another point, adding a sort of "God mode" could be a good way to create high up structures, not entirely making our character fly but a 3rd person camera view and use of invisible walls so we dont off map while building. Next issue Ive seen, Playing outside the outlook there is a piece of water that if you venture out to far the Slaughterfish kill you. I personally believe that in the editor, we should be able to see where the boundary is.

Did you place any Collectibles such as pets, mounts or Assistants?
Yes, I places my mounts in my stable, but they always vanished.

Were you able to properly set permissions and see how many items were in your home?
Kind of. I could set Individual permissions but my guildies couldn't access when i activated the allow all guild.

Do you have any other general feedback?
Items. Items. Items. We need either a search feature or to place them in a good categorization. not only in the editor but in the crafting station.

Crafting station attunement has to be changed so that each station can support multiple sets.

Maybe something around limiting a station to the number of research traits. So each station maybe could support all sets with the same number of trait research requirements.

Otherwise we'll need to attune 105 and place 105 different stations

Was this thought out and actually done during your internal tests cause I don't see how anyone can place that many in One manor

in fairness all of the stations outside imperial city are very easy to access

    It was easy to use,
But I wish that you would have added more movement instead of being able to turn it in circles and angles so to speak,
make it so you can move it up and down and side to side instead of by mouse movement that will also make it easier to place it on the ground against a wall etc...

First Impression I really like it how it is.
2 Ideas which makes it even better.

1st when I have my mount in my stable to actually choose from there and riding outside my house (or been ask to travel to a wayshrine) liek kind of where do you wanna go?-thing

2nd when I place my mount on an uneven ground for example in the stable of Serenity Falls Estate it would be cool if the mount is not staying weird downwards (head direction to ground, because on leg was on the ground and it was going sownhill) but instead my horse/Mount is using the ability of joints and bending the knee to stay proper physical on ground, like it would be natural.

Looks like you're using the gamepad UI.

If u don't have a controller attached, go into settings and use the default UI
I have "Gamepad mode" OFF and the go-to-edit is sometimes console command and sometimes F5. If i toggle the gamepad mode on, it changes things to gamepad and when back off, they go away except the housing editor start.

EDIT: This was probably an addon issue. I had function keys bound to addon and it reset the F5. Since there have been lots of addon issues i have disabled most of them including the one using function keys. I rebound the key and now it works with F5.
