Do you feel bad for the players that can no longer play ESO because of DX11?

I feel bad because unless those players were active on the forums how would they know? I didn't see any emails or notices of this change coming, and how to tell if you're prepared for it.

Why not just run the 32 bit client then?

Can you tell me how to run the 32 bit? I'll be happy with that till I can get a new card.

Just launch from the desktop icon, it leads to the 32bit, same as before.

No use mate - it will still be dx 11. It doesnt matter 32 or 64 bits

The launcher opens the 32bit client by default. If your issue is with your card not supporting DX11 then 32bit won't solve that, sadly.

Right ya the DX issue and the 64 bit exe not running are separate issues. Neither the 32 bit nor the 64 bit versions of the client will run without dx11 now.

I assume given this thread that I will not be able to play ESO because I run a Geforce 660TI PE, I bought my pc ( picked every single part in it ) back in Feb 2013 and back then my GPU was the bottleneck.

I knew it when I bought it, so do I care? Not really, could it have come at a better time? Definitely...

I am waiting for the 1000 series...

So I might have to play on very bad graphics for a few months...

660ti pe is a dx11 compatible card. You should have no issues running the game.

Many games have built-in fallback support for DirectX 9 and 10. When the API detects that you don't have a DirectX 11 card, it will fall back to another set of actions that DirectX 9 or 10 can support. This is something the developer has to put in by themselves - it doesn't happen automatically. Games built with a focus on DirectX 11 will not be able to play on video cards without DirectX 11 support unless the developer manually adds support for DirectX 9 which ZOS could have done.
I guess they didn't feel they wanted the extra code overhead.

There are cheap video cards out there that are DX 11 compatible so there are options for people. With PC gaming there are updates constantly to games that come out as well as new games being released. You need to keep updating your system as you can so you don't have issues and can play anything you want. If it's a money thing, people can always find a way to get the money. Maybe sell something they aren't using anymore. Get a part time job or something. These video cards are less than $200 and that's what, maybe 2 weeks worth of part time work.

If you don't want to have to deal with PC updating, switch to consoles.

DX12 support is on their roadmap, so they need to make the necessary preparations. The prospect of maintaining three dedicated rendering paths is a nightmare to every programmer. The code revisions that were necessary anyway to go 64-bit warranted a removal of the oldest one of them at low additional man-hour costs, so this was an opportune moment to do it.

However, technology changes and upgrades. PC gaming requires hardware upgrades every couple of years. It can be an expensive hobby.

If you have realistic expectations and don't need a screen the size of a wall that is not really the case anymore. CPUs have been close to a standstill for years now, so no use in upgrading and all you need is a new gfx card at 200-300 bucks every three years or so.

Of course that makes sense, just rough in an existing game where some find $200 hard to come by.
Luckily my old 7970 runs it just fine, but I spend much of my time on PS4 for social reasons.

Well I have the feeling they will be forced to return the dx9 and dx10 capability. Because I bet 90% of players have those types of dx and don't have the software to support dx11.

    False.
ZoS must have a hardware survey from every player playing the game. It's most likely part of the analytics. At the very least, they know who plays OpenGL, who DirectX 9 and who DirectX 11.
It's most likely the other way around, 90%+ have DX11 capable card.

Highly unlikely. You need a little know-how to know the difference between a truly compliant card and a compatible one.

You keep espousing Fermi.but the shader rendering on Fermi still used backwards compatible 10.1 codecs. Kepler had a problem with CUDA instruction cycles outside of 10.1 environments. it wasnt until Maxwell (the current generation) that Nvidia finally reached FULL DX 11 compliance for all functions (with the 11.2 update in Oct 2013, with the release of win 8.1)

So those older cards? Yeah maybe they can get by, but unless youre rocking a maxwell you have no guarantees, and none of those are under 300 bucks right now. (second gens, you might find a first gen for 180ish if you use ebay, thats still a hell of an expense)

Sort of. I understand their concern, especially if they haven't seen the announcements that were made in advance. However, I fully support the decision to enhance the game as it evolves and the box does make it clear that "system requirements are subject to change over time". I cannot believe that there are PC gamers who don't understand that and accept it.

Console gamers are claiming that it's an advantage to play on console because the hardware and inbuilt software are fixed and they're not therefore susceptible to these issues, but the advantage that PC gamers have is that they can upgrade the individual components piecemeal without having to ditch the whole machine in order to get the next one, and moreover they can benefit from enhancements to the game through doing so.

Not to mention PCs provide much superior quality and functionality.

    Not to mention PC's actually...you know....MAKE console games. :)
I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

I think the game recommends more than 4GB now, irrespective of 64 bit client or not. And DX11 compatible graphics cards.

So yes I think it may be.
