Personally i think an additional class would be brilliant, im quite happy with the ones at present, but more would be cool!

I quite like the current system. Some basic class diversity, with the majority of skill lines available to every one.
Just weapon skill lines should get an ultimate too, to avoid that most useful ultimates come from class lines, again for diversity.

Inbalances like this between classes and builds have to be expected in a MMO.
Especially one in the first half year after launch.

If you had total freedom to use any skill in the game, I guess there would be no value in replaying the game (with different class/faction/race/choice).
And replayabiltiy is one of the core concepts of any MMO.

Replayability? Hell no. Not with this one.

Playability trumps replayability any day. MMO or otherwise.

But in ESO, there isn't any replayability atm - once you are done with the veteran stuff, questing with an alt isn't that interesting, after having seen it all.

The Dev's say they are planing to introduce the traditional Elder Scrolls magic schools (Alteration, Illusion, etc.)... I just wish they would eliminate classes so we have true freedom in the Elder Scrolls tradition..

They resisted making an MMO for over a decade (trust me, i've been begging) ... yet it seems now they are giving in to the requests of "MMO elitists"... WTF

We want either NO CLASSES or if that's not possible make way more classes (see Morrowind) so we have more options....

Classes would be great if we had 1-9 but they could just give us a selection of X skill lines and it wouldn't matter because you would still only have 5 abilities.

    Within; Without.

Removing classes won't get rid of OP combinations. Either way someone will complain about things being OP.

    Very true.

As I said earlier, a perfect balance is impossible to achieve. It's just not going to happen. Certain builds are going to have advantages over other builds and players need to just accept that.

The best that can be done is for the developers to focus on making the gameplay as fun as possible.

No - the current "class" system is alraedy too open

Its always bad to have "a million build options".
Hard to balance and at the end people use a handfull of fotm builds anyway.

And this is why I dislike this emphasis on balance. It leads to thinking like this - where developers want to limit your character's possibilities as much as possible so it's easier to equalize everything.

If it makes the game more fun they should do it. Generally, the more options available to customize and create your character as you choose the better in my opinion. It brings depth and variety to the gameplay.

Unfortunately I agree.. they should have listened to feedback in the beta so that we wouldn't be in this conundrum.... 4 class in an MMO? WTF... Highly diverse, Robust balanced classes or GO HOME!

Err, or you could have 10 using the same type weapon. (Barring toggleable abilities, mind.)

See, they use the amount of skillslots in your hotbar as a check on all the various skill lines (class and otherwise) being too overpowered. It's one of those points people tend to overlook in these types of discussions as they go on about things being unbalanced.

That's really the true limiting factor, balance-wise.

A classless future is entirely possible.. and indeed the norm in all preceding games set in Tamriel...

It would totally suck to have to play ArcheAge to achieve this tho... I'm all about Elder Scrolls Lore and Tamriel in general....

WTB a true Elder Scrolls MMO!!!!!!!!!

I was originally going to vote to keep classes... But after reading a lot or the comments and good opinions/ideas... I voted to remove them.

I love the idea of everyone being able to use any skill in the game no matter what. That would let you still pick and choose what role you want to fill but it would let you do it more efficiently.(having more options)

So, where do you draw the line? Should we get more ability slots and bars too? Should we not have skill points at all and just have access to everything? What is your idea of a perfect character system?

A lot of base classes, I would say about 10 or 12. Kinda like in Pen&Paper-Games. Your youth, education, heritage, race etc... shaped your initial being.
As soon as you start adventuring you can shape your own destiny.
I think the ESO-System (3 individual skilltrees, everything else usable by everyone) is perfect the way it is.

Ability Slots should be 7+Ultimate instead of 5+Ultimate. That would limit that ridiculous Buffbuffswapattackattackswapbuffbuff we have at the moment.

Even in Pen&Paper Games, I prefer the many free character systems (like WoD, Shadowrun, etc.).
Sure, the background shapes who the character is (and options for that would be cool) - but does it need a class to do this?

7 Slots would be welcome (but not more); kinda like TSW, just that they limit the passives used to 7 as well.

The way classes mattered very little in other TES titles was nice, in those games, but for ESO I like that each class has a distinct style of magic. There would be a host of complications to switch to a classless system, but I'm mainly glad I have a more simplified tool-set that fits in a coherent theme.
Disclaimer: I'm still learning just about everything for this game, at a leisurely pace... but I'll try to help with what knowledge I have!
