RIP Jabs (Please don't change jabs 7/29)

    Personally, I like the new spear look. From the top down, it looks like an actual spear instead of a yellow skewer.

    However, the size of the spear combined with the speed of the animation makes it feel clunky. I think if they reduced the spear size by like 40% it may look better in the animation.

    35k tooltip baseline damage on live down to 20k per "jab + burning Light Proc + light attack" combination. Almost 50% damage loss to one of the most synergetic, powerful, and fun spammable ability rotations.

    Then they also change the animation to look straight garbage like when they changed Mirage animation on Nightblade and made then look like Red Shiny clown Bois if they used it.

    EDIT: PTS 16.3k DPS of jab weave synergy- forgot to exclude the 4th jab- so an overall 50%+ DPS loss to Templar weave spammable in my case.

    The new aniamtion isn't as good as the old one, but I think I might be able to get used to it.
    The only part I really don't like is the final jab of the new animation. I always liked the "jab from above" of the old animations.
    Also I miss the golden hand glow

    Of course I don't like it, since I've been playing Templar since 2015, but I do like the spear model. That is the only positive; I wouldn't mind if that were the the model for all the spear abilities.

    The spear model is just the Nighthollow Staff motif. So I'd be unhappy if they used that model for every Templar ability. I want them to make a unique Templar spear that can't be obtained in game if they were to make a spear that is universal to the Templar skills. But I've also been playing Templar since even earlier, 2014, so I'm in the same boat in that I don't want them to change my favorite skill.

    I mean sure, like I said each to their own in terms of visuals.
    I still think 40% cut on jabs is a bit heavy handed, especially if we also take pvp in mind.
    But even for parses most people are switching to rapid strikes, which is not a good sign.

    @ZOS_GinaBruno these templar super nerfs are causing you guys to bleed players. Please look at fixing this in week 2 or week 3 notes.

    Been playing on PTS for a few days now and I dont mind the new animation and visuals, helps to see other effects on your body but the damage nerf is complete junk, if we only get 3 jabs now then you need to raise the damage not decrease it.

    Already getting burnt by Burning Light (see what I did there ;) )

    I main a templar at the moment, having mained warden and nightblade previously. I'm a mediocre player, capable of vDLCs and some HMs and easier vet trials but not trifectas or anything like that, so I may or not be their alleged target demographic for this update. The changes are so depressing I've taken a step back from the game in advance.

    I don't understand what these changes are meant to achieve. Lowering DPS of high end players, yes, clearly. But it also lowers the DPS of everyone, including people who are already struggling to clear vDLC HMs. Slower damage and heal ticks mean reduced procs of enchantments, set effects, passives, Pale Order heals, etc. Longer DOTs, aside from being useless in many fights due to high mobility of bosses, mean more time to do what, use spammables that have been nerfed? Use heavy attacks that have been nerfed? It all compounds to make play feel sluggish and my character feel crippled. Reducing light attack damage to decrease the "need" to weave perfectly for maximum damage is one thing, but then if everything else also does less damage, is the goal really being achieved? And we're going to have to reapply DOTs all the time before their expiration because of how bosses run around, so that just hurts sustain too.

    And the new jabs animation. I wanted to like it, but I don't. What is that weird sidewaysish swing for the last jab? Why aren't we lunging forward as one would do with a spear? Why are we stabbing with a staff in the first place? Why is it a Nighthollow staff in the hands of an Aedric light warrior? The glowing hands, the literal shard of sharp solid light, me shoving a splinter of divine power into the gut of my enemy - that was cool and flavourful. The new animation is not an improvement.

    So yeah, I've been playing since 2017 so been through many patches
    and historically, providing feedback to PTS changes has not been met with meaningful alterations. It almost always goes live virtually exactly as is. That's probably why you're not seeing people rioting on the forums about it. They've asked for our feedback, but we don't think anything significant will actually come of it. We're just shrugging and dialing down our involvement. Which is a shame, because this has been my second home for over twelve thousand hours.
    PC NA, CP2200+. Character creation is the true endgame.

    Wow templar spear animation was one of the very few combat animations that was actually satisfying to use / watch.

    What a shame. I'll bet yall that we're gonna have many requests for a "classic/legacy server" or whatever very soon.

    Hmmm maybe that's the goal for all these changes?

    Which is like the most spear looking thing we have in the game, besides those generic NPC pokers and the Spear of Bitter Mercy, and it looks better than our light pokers so I'm cool with it and is still the only potential upside to this whole patch.
    But I digress, rip jabs, rip everyone's dps and any difficult content.

    I mean sure it's the most spear looking staff in the game. I even use it on my templar because it looks like a spear. But that doesn't mean I want the devs to use that model when making a new animation. They are a gaming company, and have the means to make a new animation with new 3D models, textures, and particle effects. By reusing assets for CLASS SKILLS... I mean they're known for reusing assets. It's not often they release a unique new mount, they're all just reskinned horses, guars, camels, bears... They've had the same flesh atronachs, giant snake lady daedras, spiders, using them over and over again for new mobs in new zones. They sometimes make new models for stuff, but historically, it's 80-90% recycled content. I'm fine with that; it lets the devs focus more on the important content, even if it's been pretty lacking the last two years.

    But. You do not. Recycle content. For skills players use.

    We use these skills every day. They're the bread and butter that players use to play the game. If you're going to make a new animation for something like that, you need to make it an actual graphical and visual improvement. Flurry and Jabs both got reused assets. Flurry is just two light attack animations stapled together, and Jabs is a poor animation that someone probably did in a couple hours using a staff that's already in game. Jabs probably too nearly no work at all to get done. Both of these are unacceptable for a company like this. I don't want them to revery flurry, by the way. I don't mind them leaving that skill as is now until they make a new appropriate animation for it, but I believe they NEED to make a new animation for it. It's better than it was before, but it needs its own animation. Just like Jabs needs to be reverted unless they actually take the time to make a new animation that is better than the old one.

    I never said it wasn't lazy, just that the new model looks better than the original, even if it is a reused model.

    How do you know that? How do you know that players are leaving over Templar changes? Do you have information to provide on subscription numbers pre/post changes?

    If I put my tin foil hat on, could this be another example of console game size restrictions forcing ZOS to reuse animations and models?

    No, they come out with new expansions, new dungeons, new items in the cash shop and within the game every patch. If they can't make 2 new animations for skills, then the game is dead because there will never be a new class.

    The proc of enchantments is apparently busted because dots tick whenever they feel like it, not actually on 2 seconds.

    The thing that hurts most to me about this new animation for Jabs is that it breaks the visual style of templars.

    The Javelin throw, Jabs, and Spear shards all SHARE the same animation. its a glowing magical spear as if it was a third weapon for the character. Its really cool and unique to the class. None of the other classes have that sort of synergy within a skill line like this imo.

    Now they've gone and broken that. The new jab animation looks like it belongs on the necromancer. Just replace the yellow glow with blue. its not graceful, or 'holy' looking... its literally got a dark center. that's a complete 180 on the representation of the skill line.

    The difference is jarring compared to the skills you would expect to use along side it. The templars skills all glow the same rich yellow... and suddenly we have this ugly animation that does not fit. They need to rethink this because it does NOT fit the class at all.

    What irks me about the visual changes, is that they're messing with an iconic and popular skill.
    I literally heard no one ever say that jabs animation looks bad.

    Well that's because they made a bad animation. Last gen consoles can use new animations if the animations are bad!
