New AOE Cool Downs - Your thoughts?

So far, I'm not liking this version of the cooldowns. The individual cooldowns might be a bit better. Global cooldown really hampers game play. Will more than likely cause even bigger zergs out there because no one will be able to stand alone against the cheat engine users.

It pretty much destroys a major selling point of the game - active combat without skill cooldowns.

And negatively effects certain classes more than others on top of that.

Hopefully it's just for gathering data or something and sees no actual use outside of maybe some skill tweaks in the future or something.

About to dive in. I will report back. I am not optimistic about the enjoyment factor this week, but this does seem like the most restrictive test period. It's one thing not to be able to spam an AOE skill. It's quite another when one skill causes a GCD on a completely unrelated skill. I generally build for Single Target in PVP, but a lot of utility skills are going to trigger GCDs.

so far my thoughts on global cooldown are this:

    1) There needs to be more single target skills/abilities if this is intended to go live. To many abilities are included in the AOE category to allow for any type of build variety. If single target is going to be the meta going forward then we need the majority of the skill options available to be single target.
    2) Smart Healing needs to disappear, or allow the Player to set priorities for targets. Skills that rely on this were spamables, but are not anymore and if the targets the game chooses are the wrong ones...well there goes the group.
    3) All AOE's need to have increased radii, duration, or power. If they can't be spammed then they need to be fewer but the power of them NEEDS to be felt.
    4) no noticeable change (so far) with server performance, but i guess we will see more during prime time.

My magden that is set up with mainly healing skills feels completely useless in this round of tests. My favourite part in Cyro was attempting to heal folk and that doesn't seem possible with the cool downs unless I am missing something. Possibly a good time for a break from the game anyway!

I don't know about people saying they havent seen any difference but if you come and read some of EU zone chat I don't think there is hardly 1 person who hasnt said massive improvment. We have just had 3 factions at the last EMP keep and had no lag. Most fights fps is double and ping is way down.

With global AoE cooldown, most of my builds are screwed. Magplar... just no. Magden... kinda ok? But I'm missing a lot of shielding. Stamden... ok at range, can't spam enough skills 1v1. Magsorc... have to swap a few morphs but mostly ok-ish. Magdk is OP bc he has 0 AoE. Haven't tried the Necrotank, but I'm fairly sure it won't be pretty.

Not a fan to be sure.

Dear devs: could you please prioritize fixing break-free? Right now it takes 3!!! separate break-free's (all take stamina from my pool) to actually get out of magdk's fossilize. On magicka toons, that's all of my stamina bar and then DK just casts fossilize again, which doesn't obey cc cool-down. PLEASE FIX. Magdk is going to be OP throughout these tests, and they really don't need a broken skill like fossilize.

Note for this test you should 3 flashy proc sets with flashy aoe damage or pet summon.

I for mine part is only going to cyrodil if the golden has something I want.
Now if you need to level rapid however this is the time. Perhaps wait a day or two.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Played my smallgroup Healing Templar as is:
Got stomped real quick multiple times. DSwing spam and other single target abilities jacked her up. Was surprised that Inner Light was on the CD as well.

I couldn't heal myself let alone anyone else reliably. Healing nerf, plus 3-CD, my entire build is basically gutted as is. I suspected that was going to be the case. I'd have to shelve this playstyle, start completely over if this went live. 😥😐

But did the performance get any better? I'm sure that's the most important question here. Who cares if people are having fun or not. Fun is secondary in games after all. ;)

Well this is what I felt from the brief outting -> Then we all switched to IC because it was too frustrating.

The C/D to certain AOE based skills (healing or dmg) just feels like its replacing lag....you'll have to see in a proper prime time setting, but I think many will just log out honestly.

Let's hope so. Maybe if ZOS won't listen to reason, they will listen to dropping prime-time active player numbers.

or they will just assume that everyone went into IC because event is active and not because they hate the cooldowns.... knowing ZoS and all
    dirty worthless casual.

    Hi folks,

Just wondering what your constructive thoughts are for this week of AOE 3 second cool down testing on PVP campaigns?

I main a magplar...let me say...it was literally unplayable with my current setup. You can stack skills to cast off (for example : Rune, Purify, Honor the dead - all with cool downs)....It just feels like heavy lag honestly...and we come back to square one.

    Food for thought,

    Freya

For both Magplars and especially Stamplars it largely means PvP is unplayable. YMMV.

Stupid - Destroys the game if any cool downs enter the game as the combat gets screwed. Games with cooldowns have bars and bars of skills to fill in, ESO only 10 (most will be on cooldown esp if you are a templar)

Incredibly poor decision. High ping and rubber banding still persists. And game is now turn based, making it boring and pointless to play.

Even if they "magically" collect data that performance is better, it will most likely be falsely positive, since a lot of people aren't going to play or are going to move to IC.

Two years ago when things worked pretty decent, there were not any AOE cooldowns.

This radically changes the game, and it didn't seem to lower ping noticeably either. This radically changes how every single class has to arrange their bars and the skills they will be using.

Yh it is called killing PvP

PvP should be fast and exciting gameplay, not what these tests are showing.

Horrible update, and snuck in without any testing. Stamina Templar is now nerfed again.

Biting Jabs no longer a spammable and can't do enough damage to keep up with other builds. Can't use Restoring Focus right after a fight.

Even though it was hard i was still getting by, now i'm just getting destroyed. :(

Very disappointed, still trying to understand how this was a benefit to my class. :(

If they are against AOE that much would a better solution not be to simply rework every single AOE skill into a Single Target Skill Instead? never got the whole thing with AOE attacks in MMOs, just make all attacks single target instead of adding cooldowns that prevent AOE usage.

Hardened Ward on a non-pet sorc getting tagged with an AOE cooldown is rough. Offensively, nothing has really changed, but sorc defense and mobility are taking a massive hit. Pretty much everything defensive has a cooldown or channel. Ironically, curse doesnt seem to be an AOE (not that it can be spammed). Going to jump back in on another class, still not sure which one yet. Pretty sure it wont be magplar though... Haha

Just remember this is their testing phase. You'll get more testing and different parameters...this is just number 1.
Let's just hope they actually do something positive with it.

No lag at all on Grey Host NA , but then again it's not prime time yet and most people are on IC. Played my magicka warden for a couple of hours and it's very jarring. You use one heal and half your skills are unusable , but I found a setup that kinda works. I'll play my magicka templar tonight and see if I can at least find a setup that doesn't give me a cooldown after every skill.

As someone who plays strictly all heals in pvp, this test killed me and my setup. Use one heal, cant use ANY of my other heals for 3 seconds which can make or break some fights. This basically is killing pvp healers completely and they no longer will be viable. Ive tried changing my build up a bit to make it work, but its still ridiculous. The lag doesnt feel any different at all, and since this is taking place during an event, Cyrodiil isnt even very active right now to see how big of a difference it would actually make. In my opinion the only thing this stops is the massive cc balls, which makes snow treaders kinda useless now since not many ccs being used since it puts everything on a cd. Everyone is just going to go single target skills now, and then we will just be right back at the beginning with skill spams, just with single target skills. I dont think this is a good direction, and if it does go through, I probably will no longer be partaking in Cyro pvp. Too much of a pain. I hope the team will listen to the community and reverse this/not make this permanent.
