Delayed abilities and break free

    Hey folks, for those of you reporting new issues with weapon swapping, ability responsiveness delay, hitching or FPS spikes as of today on PC/Mac, are you using any addons and have you tried turning off out-of-date addons? We ask because we did make an update to the API today (see the note below) and it may have resulted in some addons being out of date.
    Addons
    • Refactored the chat formatting API to preserve existing use cases.

    If you are not using any addons or have out-of-date addons turn off, please let us know? We'd like to rule that out if it's not the culprit. Also please note that if you noticed these issues with the Update 25 launch, we are aware and investigating.

    I don't use addons and I've noticed abilities that aren't going off or appear to be cancelling while in process. It is hard to tell when running a rotation but it acts like an animation is still locking the keyboard even though the animation is completed or animation canceling isn't being recognized. Even stuff that doesn't lockout other actions feels slow and clunky with a noticeable delay between the key stroke and action starting.

Luckily, I at least have a great group of friends (who are all experiencing the same issues) but even good friends can't keep you doing stuff you dread forever. If this isn't fixed, sooner rather than later, I can't imagine I will be playing much longer.

    One more thing to add to this:
    • Jesus beam - My character animates the skill and then just...stops and stands there. I did not cancel the channel and the beam of light still appears except I can channel again as if I wasn't casting it. It is not greyed out so I wasn't stunned/interrupted.

    Also, after the last major patch..ELEMENTAL DRAIN no longer works..no Major Breach and no magicsteal..

    This is getting so old. We fear every patch because things just get worse and worse. You shouldn't fear the quitting threads, you should fear when no one says anything and silently goes away because we just don't care anymore.

    Can confirm, my magplar does nothing after casting toppling charge. I can't light attack, heavy attack, use puncturing sweeps, crescent sweep. All I can do reliably is dodge roll, use radiant oppression or mist form. Delays have also been similarly bad on my magdk.

    No point in playing PvP currently.

    For the love of god stop making new content if you can't maintain your game or coding.

    Yeah, as an aussie I always laugh when I read these horrifying descriptions, it always just sounds like my regular game experience.

    ZOS I believe as a community we deserve answers. We want to know if this skill delay is on purpose, if slowing combat to a crawl is your intention.. We want to know if this is the best your "performance" patch has to offer, and since all the big reveal in Vegas was a bunch of lore and overland crap if that's all we can look forward to in the upcoming Skyrim (Hail Mary because the year of the dragon was an epic fail) chapter.. We have been thanked for a patience enough we are all out of patience.. Stop lying we have earned the right to get a straight answer for once in 6 years...

    P.S some of us already knew that doing client side fixes wouldn't change any of the server side problems.. I don't expect you to ever actually fix the game because you would have to put money into it instead of straight into your pocket, but don't ruin the combat for the love of god..

    having these delays too...when fragments proc i try to cast sometimes but nothing happens till its gone & then i get stuck in casting shards over and over without firing it ,also wall of elements does not always work and sometimes the character is just stuck several seconds..Not sure whats goin on ,but hard to get a smooth rotation together this way

    I've been having casting delays on several abilities with no cast times even in PvE content as well as in Battle Grounds since Update 25 was released on PC. While running Ice Reach, Purifying Light would prevent other casts from going off. Sometimes it would take between 2 to 4 seconds to cast, but most times it cast instantly.

    I've noticed cast animations hitching most frequently while beginning a fight with unsheathed weapons. The animation of drawing weapons would not play right away and would prevent me from casting skills until it successfully played.

    XBOX NA pvp Cyradiil- delay skills: have to press button a few times before the skill fires. Break free: same thing, can't break free on the first or second attempt. Against more than one player, by the time you break free, you are dead. Game performance in pvp is horrible... worst than ever!

    This happens when the server is full - all three alliances have three bars.

    Thank you! To follow up, we are tracking and actively investigating an issue with CC break not firing off right away when activated.

    It's not just CC break. Both with addons activated and without addons activated, I have been experiencing significant skill delay. To the point where some skills don't fire for a short pause (about 2-3 secs) then suddenly they start firing off again. I know this because during the brief pause where no skills fire off, no damage numbers show up on opponent, but then start showing up again after 2-3 secs. No it's not lag, because the damage numbers will correspond with the skills that i activate at that moment and not with the previous skill I tried using but having no results.

    I agree. I'm not gonna bash the people: but if I'd consistently messed stuff up to this degree for over a YEAR, I'd have BEEN fired lol.

    100% truth! So many of my friends have quit, boycotted buying more crowns, and/or cancel ESO+. Many of us are starting to question the competence of the combat and server development team. Are they even able to resolve these issues? Evidently not because the problems are getting worse.

    Any update for us console peasants?

    With Update 25, coming to Xbox One and PS4 on March 10, our players on console should see greatly improved overall performance. Here's the full blurb from the PC/Mac patch notes that provides more detail:
    Additionally, please take note for this update, we’re refreshing our patching and file manifest data to remove duplicate files and older data that is no longer needed. This will result in major improvements to load times, streaming of assets, reliability of asset loads, and a reduction of space taken up by the client on your hard drive. In order to achieve this, you will be required to re-download the entirety of the game. To this end, the size of this update is 64.22 GB. To read more about this patching overhaul, please visit this website article. Don’t forget, we’ve added a free Crimson Torchbug Pet to the Crown Store for the next two weeks as a thank you for completing the re-download!

    And we are working to get today's crash fixes over to console before Update 25 launches.

    All i'm getting with the new patch is potions not being consumed after 5/6 presses, detonating siphon not working at all in vSS, and spinning my character round and having them face a random direction if it does finally work, and skills just deciding not to work for no reason or a random freeze. I've disabled all addons, have a good pc and good internet & ping, still getting the same issues so it's not an issue with addons.

    Pre-update on Xbox, is like - you use abilities, and they "sort of" perform the ability half way through, but it do no damage at all. I've been dancing around enemies in Cyrodiil, my character going like "Hu-häh-ha! Hyiaaa! Hu-hiyaa! Hu-hä-häh-häh-HIAY!", dealing absolutely zero damage, and animations are like cut half way through in a weird way (looks like he's having an epileptic seizure). And then - in vain - trying to fire of an ultimate, I can even stand still and push ulitmate (literally) like 20 times, before it finally goes off, if I'm still alive by then.

    What can possibly have messed things up this bad? Cyrodiil has been bad for years, in all sorts of ways. But this is - as some say - unplayable, it really is. All you can do is run around and avoid damage. I'm pretty amazed anyone still plays, they need to be very, very loyal fans of the game. That's for sure.

    No more crashing, for me, since patch yesterday but now crippling delay in skills firing off. Not showing an increase in ping when this happens and I am not running any addons. It is not addons causing this.

    PC EU, Addons in use Assist rapid riding, Action Duration Reminder, Wykkyds Toolbar and Kill Counter. All up to date. But there is no difference if you run them or turn them off.

    Crashes are fixed, that s good!

    But the delay is horrible. I m located in germany and I had yesterday evening prime time stable 40-50FPS and jumping pings between 59-89 in Cyro. So good connection compared to the past. But the server response was ridiculous. I got a few whisper from newbies that I was cheating because of scenarios like this: I fought 1v2 on a ressource and it happens that you didn´t move at all. I pressed my finisher combo but nothing happend. After 3-4 sec I was alive with only 15% health and both guys lay dead on the ground. How? I don´t know.

    This happened so often, that all your abilities came once nor ever but what really happened showed the game a few secs later. One funny thing were around Rayles. We took back Rayles from yellows and the guards ported around the complete keep. This look so funny and after a few secs they were dead on a complete other place as the people were fighting them.

    Just as well got I catched a few times from a nightblade ganker, but the only way I knew it was a nightblade was because I heard the nightblade ulti sound and the surprise attack sound but visual they appeared a few secs later and the impact too.

    Sad part: the gameplay and response last week was great and I had hope if you can fix the crashes that cyro becomes better as the old days, but you broke something completely that the performance and response is worse than ever.

    Most of my fights are between the keep fights catching people. Not in a group or zerg.

    Btw desyncs that causing your character to move while in fact you dead already are still ingame, it wasn't fixed with new anim. cancelling.

    @scottii starting to question the competence? I think this last patch was the last hope for many.
    The last hope that zos would finally fix this mess of a game. It's been like this for several years now and that's why many already see the dev's as incompetent.

    Even better is when your abilities go off on time, but no damage actually registered. I have a demo video I'll post later. Was spamming abilities on a single player, no one else around excep a few teammates and nothing was working.

    Agree. I had too much delayed skills and sometimes they dont fire at all. No addons, good internet provider.
    Seems with this patch we went back to alpha.

    1 week lost waiting for crashes fixes.

    Now 1 (or more ?) week to wait for delayed abilities to fire correctly and break free fix.

    Any chance we'll be able to PvP in normal and fun conditions in TESO in 2020 ?
