Upcoming Racial Passive Changes - Your Thoughts.

From my point of view it really depends what changes they will introduce. Maybe those changes will be really interesting variants that give more flavor instead of giving you a flat DPS increase on a certain race.
Personally I play mostly Khajiit....and yes...on Magicka as well. In fact my main is a Khajiit Healer :P . So if they pick up some of the input the community has given in the past it may improve my stubborn race choice. It would also make sense lore wise and well "reality" wise that a progression would incorporate you getting better at magicka/stam usage even if your race isnt the "right meta choice".
For all I care meta chasing is boring as hell. Hence why I play awkward builds that may not boast best numbers on skeletons but give me more enjoyment of playing my char in the first place. Not everything should be about numbers...

The moment that people race changed to keep up with 'meta' after each race passive nerfs was the moment zos realised they can edit passives every 6 months and these dumbos will actually pay for that

Any change that you can't adapt to (or adaptation possibility is locked behind a paywall) is a bad change.

They could give us free race change tokens but that is not going to happen, I'm sure. Racials changes seem to me more of a cash grab rather than balance update.

I am more or less indifferent, I play as a Breton, plain and simple. I don’t play it for its stats, I play it because I prefer them for my characters. It doesn’t matter to me if I play as a stamina or magicka build, nor do I care about the armor boosts. In theory the change might just make my character a bit stronger but ultimately why would I care? I am having fun and doing well as it is, so no big deal to me either way.

It makes sense and makes making a race worth playing.. Removing the cookie cutter race passive stupidity is smart.. For a change i agree with the Devs if done right..

Races should be your main reason to make a character not stupid stats or meta that forces you into 3 types or so.

I realize that racials need to be balanced better, but it has been my experience that ZOS swings the nerf bat too hard. Unless it's game breaking, I prefer they don't touch it.

As long as we have choices instead of being locked into redgaurd for stam, Altmer for magsorc, dark elf for magblade and argonian for healer and tank, Ill be happy

The higher sustain and stamina passive that redguards have puts the other races at a huge disadvantage

In same exact armor and CP a redguard has 4-5K more stam and 300 more regen on the exact same build.
Thats a HUGE difference in terms of DPS output and sustain in end game

thats os what I think too.

Here's an idea why dont they balance game play meta's instead. Bringing the heavy attack builds back on par with the light attack build will in turn buff Khajiit, Orc's, Imperials, and Wood Elf. Major reason Redguards are so OP atm is bc they are they only stam dps race that can sustain a light attack rotation. This would also bring other classes closer to the Stamblade/Stamden bc atm they are the only two classes that can sustain a light attack rotation, well at least a Redguard Stamblade/Stamden. The worst change they ever made was increasing the damage of light attacks. Its stupid that a major portion of your damage is from light attacks.

I do like the diversity of passives that various races bring. However some need minor buffing (Nords) or slight nerfing (Argnoians). Unfortunately I fear that things will go overboard and the minor tweaks that are need will be large swinging changes. Additionally I also sense that all the races are going to become more homogenized.

To be honest I’m expecting the worst case scenario where they make drastic changes that force Race change tokens to be purchased etc

But who knows Zeno May just be dumb enough to create all this hype over some meaningless tweak focused only on new characters and leveling...

im just salty i've race changed the same character ten times just to keep up to date with the meta. pls no change.

You swap your race many times to keep up with meta and when they offer you equalling all races to make it easier for you to maintain meta on any race you refuse?😂.
I will happily welcome racial changes to be in line and let you fluently adapt to changes without need to get tokens. Great move ZOS!!!

This just feels like a weak marketing ploy to make it seem like they're making big changes. They're going to work on racial passives and hype that up, rather than address the numerous issues with the game that have been raised on the forums.

As stated in a different thread that has received no official follow-up, ZOS didn't have a long-term plan for where they were going for combat. This just seems like more of the same thing.

It's the filthy casuals that were too lazy to calculate min/max build that kept requesting this change instead of adapting. So I'm neutral on this one since races didn't really bothered me but it is nice to play races as cosmetics instead of BIS because being beautiful is the end game. <3 But if they didn't hand out free race change or even just a discount when this hits live, I'm gonna be mad.

Also, that way I see this is the game evolving to be casualized to gather more audiences because $$$. Mark my words, this is just the beginning.

I play a tanky khajiit solo pve stamblade. I've built around what's there. The health regen is useless to me, but I've made it all work because of the crit bonus. We aren't going to get buffed to redgard. So the best case scenario is to stay the same.

I would like to keep getting stronger. Having access to a stick and a dress isn't going to do that for me. So either they ignore power creep and give me a buff, or this isn't going to be good for me.

I'll have to just wait and see.

    THIS IS AN ARGONIAN NERF

Also if ZOS could STOP homogenizing classes and races that would be awesome.

I am sick of them draining power for class and races just to combat the power creep from the champion system.

Lets convert what ZOS said to normal speak.
When selecting a race, players should have multiple effective options for any given gameplay role. The combat power provided by each race should be more equalized.

What it really means: No race should be better at anything than any other race. Races that are will be hammered down with the nerf bat. Races that are less used will get the most paltry of buffs.
Players should feel a stronger sense of power progression through racial passives as they level up.
What it really means: We are going to make it harder and take much longer to get the effects of your racial passives so you feel like you earned it more.
The unique feeling and flavor each race provides should be retained and enhanced where possible, and remain faithful to established lore.
What it really means: We will add a few lines of flavor text to each racial passive but powerful stat percentage passives are going the way of warlock rings in Vet 12 aetherian archive.

    Like that of Murphy's Law...

If it can be nerfed, it will be nerfed.
Welcome, Moon-and-Star, to this place where destiny is made.

I play healers or DPS often for vet dungeons and trials (NA, CP810+). I play mostly elves or Argonians.
I primarily play Damage-Based stuff in PvP, but occasionally I'll play something tanky or got the heals.
I also love gaining more knowledge both metaphysical and mundane regarding TES lore.

I also occasionally role-play, but I prefer playing the game.

Race changes are about $30 at current crown prices. DLCs went for $30. ZOS can make more money just continually screwing up the meta and forcing all the meta chasers to pay 30 bucks per character then they ever could on DLCs.

If ZOS nerfs something really popular to the ground, lets say argonian, and people have three argonians, that's $90 per account they will be getting.

I can't make an informed decision until I know what exactly they are thinking of doing. Some vague and mysterious comments are not enough for me to think the world is on fire. It might be super bad, but it might not be. Maybe it will be great. Who knows.

But, if they do massive changes, they really need to reduce the cost of race changes at the same time. Be fair about things. Don't expect people to pay out the nose to fix their characters all up after huge changes. Even if they do a 7 day window where race changes are 1 crown or whatever, that would offset things enough to where a lot of the irate people may not be so mad about it. (You do lower the cost of skill point resets when you change those up significantly, this should be no different)

Just STOP tying character passives to RACE.

Roll a character. During the process choose the passives you want, limited of course. Assume every character, regardless of race, has their own individual abilities based on the player who created them, and let that be an end to it.

Shalidor was a Nord. We see Redguard and Orc mages among the NPCs. Plus this is the 21st Century after all, for what that's worth ;)

I've always felt that them changing racial passives is a real dirty thing.

Not only can it destroy the usefulness of a toon, but since we would rather race change than level up again via the use of money, there is a dirty incentive for the developers to change thing, never make things right, and keep having to change things.

Think of how long that they have had to bring balance to the races. They suddenly want to now?

This is a problem with the players as well - for a long time people told the lie that race didn't matter. I'm sure that played nicely with the developers thoughts about things such as the Nord...

There is no telling how this racial passive schtick is gonna play out, but in truth I hope all races become the "Equal Meta."

Slightly off-topic: As my primary concern is directed towards Zenimax Online Studios primarily due to the Scandal that "Bethesda" pulled with those who ordered fallout 76, seriously, who in the right mind decides to use nylon instead of Canvas with the bag that came with the fallout 76 pre-order?

With Bethesda in the crosshairs of an outraged community, I pray that Zenimax does not suffer for it, for if it were not for ZOS, I wouldn't have such a good immersive game to play that I have devoted my time to playing for the past 3+ years.
If you see me anywhere. Know that I am sitting back with a bag of popcorn, watching as ESO burns the goodwill of its player base with practices that only disrespects the players time like it did to me and many others...

If a game does not respect your time, best thing to do is move on from it and find something else.

I believe that the goals stated in the OP cannot be achieved at the same time. You cannot make the passives race-independent and keep the races as different as they are now.

Most of the positive posts here are like "yeah, buff the nords" and so on, but if I'm not mistaken, this is not what the changes are meant to do: they are going to level the field completely by making every buff available to every race. I think this will essentially amount to different names for more or less exactly the same buffs regardless of race. For an RPG, this is a terrible idea.

For me, roleplaying is about adventuring with unique, memorable characters with strengths and, yes, weaknesses. The more they make the chars all the same, the less this game is an RPG. There's nothing wrong with competitive games like FPS, sports games and the like, I'm just not happy with the fact that ESO seems to become one of those a little more with every patch. As if roleplaying were nothing more than cosmetics. Outfits for instance could have been a great idea, but with absolutely no restriction whatsoever the appearance of every char is now completely arbitrary. What's next, play an Argonian but let him look like a Nord?

I wouldn't be surprised if one day they brought up the idea of getting rid of the skill point system. Every character should be able to learn every skill there is with XP! Or, better yet, via the crown store! Yeah, let's roleplay...

Racials shouldn't have a large impact on combat and right now they do. If their goal is to make racials unique, but ultimately not effect combat, I fully support it. It'd be nice if people could actually make whatever races they want and not be punished for it.
