We’ve heard your concerns about Jewelry Crafting, and we’ve been working on a few changes to help address them. The change to the value of Master Writs was a big part of those changes, but it isn’t the only part – or even the biggest! We’d like to inform you of some of the changes we’re currently working on for Jewelry Crafting.
    • First, we’ve noticed that some players will leave Blacksmithing resources alone in their search for more Jewelry Crafting materials – which can result, in the long run, in a zone having too few Jewelry Crafting Seams for players to find. To help alleviate this, in an upcoming PTS patch, we’ll be adding a small amount of Jewelry Crafting raw material to some (but not all) Blacksmithing ore nodes. Not only will this encourage players to harvest both Blacksmithing and Jewelry Crafting resources, it will also result in more Jewelry Crafting Dust being mined overall (as we are not affecting the yield of existing Jewelry Crafting Seams at all).
    • Second – and this is the big one – in an upcoming PTS patch, we’ll be significantly reducing the number of Platings it takes to upgrade a piece of Jewelry. At maximum rank in Platings Expertise, it will take you only a single Terne Plating to upgrade a ring from White to Green, and it will take only 4 Chromium Platings to upgrade a ring from Purple to Gold – both of which are half of what it takes currently on Live.
With these changes, we aim to make the experience of obtaining Jewelry Crafting materials, upgrading Rings and Necklaces, and completing Jewelry Crafting Master Writs more enjoyable and economically beneficial. They should arrive on PTS sometime soon – and be included in the final Live release of the Wolfhunter DLC pack.

    Awesome changes, thanks!

This will be a good change. But why was this not addressed when we brought this issue up during the Summerset PTS? You could've nipped this thing in the bud if you had just listened to our feedback months ago.

THANK YOU! I've been avoiding JC because of the horror stories I've heard, especially in terms of mats needed to upgrade and/or cost to buy them on the market. Looks like now I can take a look at JC once again.

Does that mean each tier of jewelry improvement has been “halved” or just the two mentioned?

    I expect the progression to change from 2, 3, 4, 8 to 1, 2, 3, 4.

Since you can't use partial plates, that's the only progression possible where you start and 1 for green and end at 4 for yellow. So the reduction for blues and purples will be only 33% and 25%, respectively.

A month after this goes live Tempering alloys will drop down to 3k or less each on NA PC. its almost there on EU PC already cause of jewelry crafting. This can be seen as a good thing if you only care about cheep stuff or a bad thing if you understand the economy and how this will effect it over all. Their goal to make jewelry mats more accessible is the right final goal but the approach to get there scares me.

I totally agree that the current jewelry crafting system is flawed but changes need to be based around the line its self and its self only. As it stands right now Jewelry crafting writs are a complete mess. bottom tier and top tier writs DO NOT offer any increase in gaining of legendary materials, or any other type of reward besides a small chance at a swift trait item. This has left crafters no initiative to seek out leveling and maxing jewelry on anymore then one character. Maybe this was intended as they dont want people with multiple characters and multiple accounts to pull in the amount of tempers, alloy, wax, rosin and kute you currently can but something has to be done to reward people who maxed out the jewelry skill line besides just being able to craft or its a skill line that has no value to alts.

they bring out changes, good changes, and people still complain because of the prices set by greedy players on materials. player pricing IS NOT, and SHOULD NOT be a factor. these writ changes are great.

What about when prices are high because ZoS made the materials stupid rare? Sounds like a ZoS issue.

@ZOS_MSchroeder Thanks for the update. I understand the Master Writ change won't be retroactive, but is there anything that can be done for those of us who have a bunch of Jewelry Master Writs already? Would the support team be able to exchange them for us after the update goes live?

I'm glad that we're being heard at least. I still think the system needed to be more than halved though. We'll have to wait and see what kind of an impact the BS node change has on everything.

These changes are another step in the right direction. The only big issue left is the lack of gold materials from top tier JC writs. There is still very little reason to do a top tier writ compared to a tier 1 writ.

Soooo will our blacksmithing hirelings be skimming off the top so to speak? If so can we hire some that aren't so unethical? :D

There is Zero reason right now to do them on any tier other then 1. Im really surprised this was not also addressed and as a max crafter on all my characters leaves me quite sad. #feelsbadman

With the change to master writs there is a reason to do them on top level. The change to them will be double as good with the reduction of tempers needed to upgrade jewelry. Not like platinum is worth anything anyways so the only real cost here are some skillpoints.

Even when double as good, JC master writs will be still the most expensive. A legendary writ will then hum yes maybe lets say if the prices drop significantly 150k-200k Gold, a Gold upgrade from others cost roundabout 50k (more likely less).
The gold per writ ratio will be still... yes still better on the other crafting spec's.

How did the dev team not see these problems coming? Does the team all wear coke bottle bottom glasses?

5904326585045 threads on PTS about jewelry writs and the grinds, and then you have this months after release

why even have the PTS when you continually ignore repeated feedback from your customers

it continues to be more and more obvious that the monetization team is running this game and putting everything 2nd to that

hope it is worth it, Ill never buy another ZMI product as long as I live

We are still months away from that being the case. Prices are no where near making it worth doing jewelry writs for master writs even with these changes.

This should help a lot. At current prices this will mean upgrading from purple to gold is around 350k and in line with the golden.

    Not really.

I consider master writs good, if they have:
    - high value for "vouchers gained divided by production time" (amount of wayshrine jumps + rapids needed to find set stations)
    - "no" production cost (i have all the mats i need in my bottomless bag and i gain more mats than i need for masterwrits)

For jc, some of the traitstones r "locked" behind activities i avoid (pvp, trials, pledges) thus "require additional purchase".
Max Tier writs "reward" with a box of useless mats half the time, while t1 writs give u the mats back u just used, no matter if u get a box or a survey.

Since launch, i casually got one char to max out and did max tier jc writs. From refining surveys i got 15 purps and 3 golds. Writs were:
    91 ring legend healthy deaths2
    8 neck epic robust ashen2
    7 ring epic harmony twilight3
    8 ring epic rob redis7
    23 neck epic infu ashen2
    9 neck epic prot alchy7
With the new system, i'd need 18 purps and 4 golds to do those. That means, i would need 20% more mats than i gain to complete. Adding more chars to max tier writs, would mean, i need 120% more mats than i gain for one more char, 220% for 2 and so on.
They give better amount of voucher/prodtime at higher cost/voucher compared to smith/cloth/wood (4 times the vouchers at 5 times the cost) and r cool, as long as u dont get to many of them. Getting very few or even none, is a good thing.

Thank the eight! (or nine or three depending)

Thanks for the info about rolling back a bit on the extra grind for jewelry upgrade mats. But I'm still having a hard time understanding why jewelry upgrades, especially to green, blue and purple, need to have this extra requirement relative to the other 9 gear slots.
    • Green, blue and purple jewelry drops in the world are no more rare than similar quality for the other slots. Making crafting those upgrades have still 5X the resource requirement leaves crafted jewelry at a distinct disadvantage relative to improving any of the other 9 slots.
    • It's not like jewelry is inherently so powerful compared to the other 9 slots that extra effort should be imposed on upgrading it. If any one type of item should be that way due to the impact it has on your overall power, I'd think that would be weapons not jewelry.

IMO, anything other than treating jewelry crafting gear improvements just like the other 9 slots is still contextually wrong.

Or what is more likely, people will just take the dust and leave the ore, just like the worms in the alchemy plants.

A good start. 4 Platings still puts gold jewelry out of the reach of most players, at about 400k per piece (1.2 mil per set), but this does make purple jewelry a bit more reasonable, at about 60k per piece (180k per set).

Overall, I'm supportive of this change. It doesn't solve all the challenges of jewelry crafting, but it does cut back on the grind/cost significantly, which is what held back most people from using it at all.

Hopefully this change will encourage more people to participate in jewelry crafting/mat farming, and prices will drop to even more reasonable levels as a result.

Teacher: "Now what have we learned here class?"
Students: "Do things right the first time and you won't have to redo them."

Let's just hope the lesson was learned for next time.
Oh wait, the Welkynar Motif grind is still horribly stupid. I guess the lesson still isn't hitting the person who decides drop rates and completion timetables.
