We’ve heard your concerns about Jewelry Crafting, and we’ve been working on a few changes to help address them. The change to the value of Master Writs was a big part of those changes, but it isn’t the only part – or even the biggest! We’d like to inform you of some of the changes we’re currently working on for Jewelry Crafting.
    • First, we’ve noticed that some players will leave Blacksmithing resources alone in their search for more Jewelry Crafting materials – which can result, in the long run, in a zone having too few Jewelry Crafting Seams for players to find. To help alleviate this, in an upcoming PTS patch, we’ll be adding a small amount of Jewelry Crafting raw material to some (but not all) Blacksmithing ore nodes. Not only will this encourage players to harvest both Blacksmithing and Jewelry Crafting resources, it will also result in more Jewelry Crafting Dust being mined overall (as we are not affecting the yield of existing Jewelry Crafting Seams at all).
    • Second – and this is the big one – in an upcoming PTS patch, we’ll be significantly reducing the number of Platings it takes to upgrade a piece of Jewelry. At maximum rank in Platings Expertise, it will take you only a single Terne Plating to upgrade a ring from White to Green, and it will take only 4 Chromium Platings to upgrade a ring from Purple to Gold – both of which are half of what it takes currently on Live.
With these changes, we aim to make the experience of obtaining Jewelry Crafting materials, upgrading Rings and Necklaces, and completing Jewelry Crafting Master Writs more enjoyable and economically beneficial. They should arrive on PTS sometime soon – and be included in the final Live release of the Wolfhunter DLC pack.

This will be a good change. But why was this not addressed when we brought this issue up during the Summerset PTS? You could've nipped this thing in the bud if you had just listened to our feedback months ago.

Or what is more likely, people will just take the dust and leave the ore, just like the worms in the alchemy plants.

And the rest of the mats in craglorn nodes when they take the Nirncrux.
Sad but true state of things.

We need partially looted nodes to despawn after 10-30 seconds after they are only partially looted, and chests too, so we can have new full ones spawn when the bots and picky players go through the rest of us can actually get some worthwhile stuff.

Exactly. We simply need new nodes for JC. As is, it makes it seem like the coders who created the initial node system have left the company and the new team can't figure out how to make new ones.

Yes, but once the node is touched, it will despawn in a few minutes. If no one touches the node, it will never despawn. Even if someone just takes the dust, that node will despawn, allowing a new node to appear. That new node could be a jewelry node.

These are changes in the right direction, but I still have some concerns. You are almost halving the materials needed to upgrade(Almost because epic upgrade will probably be 3 platings needed) which will put these at only needing about 5x the materials that other crafts require. But you are only making the vouchers worth 4x what they are. This still means these master writs are less worth it to make.

This alone isn't so much a big deal till you consider the drop rates on the JC master writs. They are dropping way more than any other craft, at least for me. They are dropping at a rate that we can't complete them even with the halved costs. I think the drop rate on the master writs for jewelry should be rarer than other crafts.

I got Summerset one day before official release. With 11 characters @ 5/5 engraving doing writs daily I have 31 epic jewel crafting master writs and 6 legendary jewel crafting master writs. Between farming, writ rewards, survey maps refined, I have only earned a total of 37 chromium grains and 189 zircon grains, giving me 3 chromium platings and 18 zircon platings. So out of all I have I could only complete 6 epic master writs right now, if we already had the new set up you mention.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease!! ;)

Not in this case. We just had rims with no wheels and it was more of a horrific grinding sound. Now we may have actual tires.

Of course I'd like even lower cost and the old writs still can't be done, but I'm pretty happy with this change. I'm going to actually gold jewelry that I made. That's pretty cool!

What I'm betting is that some people - those who continually pass by Blacksmithing nodes - haven't worked out that Jewellery Dust seams share the same nodes. I'm also willing to bet that these people also haven't realised that Enchanting nodes are also shared with the Psijic Portals. But as has already been pointed out, certain players will still ONLY take the dust and leave the blacksmithing ore behind. Doing as planned above will improve things, but not by much.

If you guys had bothered to place jewelry nodes in the worldspace separately instead of simply going the lazy route of making X blacksmith nodes spawn as jewelry nodes, then you wouldn't be in this problem to begin with. You could adjust the number of jewelry nodes along the way, and they wouldn't have interfered with blacksmithing nodes at all.

Now if only someone had been quick enough to suggest that to you on the PTS. Oh wait, we did.

Or you know, you could just go all the way and make JC the same as the other crafting lines. I'm wondering why I paid cash for the right to mindlessly grind. Not something I'm going to repeat.

why not just remove grains and give plating direct like all other crafting skill lines?

I second this. Rather than turning on a giant voucher faucet without a corresponding sink and then slightly tweaking the value equation, why not just address the value problem at its core?
    • The JC master writ voucher rewards should be reverted to be more in line with other skill lines
    • Trait stone dust like zinc dust should either be removed from the JC writ loot tables, or drop separately from platings Edit: I guess it already does. I've done a lot more JC writs now, and gotten several drops with both trait stone dust and plating dust.
    • JC should get its own nodes placed instead of cannibalizing BS nodes
    • Platings should drop directly rather than dust both from nodes and writs
    • A new JC hireling passive should be added as well to increase the rewards for leveling JC on alts.

I don't understand why JC had to have all these special differences from the other skill lines to begin with. The only one that made any sense was the reduced number of research slots available, considering there are only two item slots available to research. Other than that, imo, JC should behave exactly the same as every other crafting skill.

It's as if ZOS wanted to try to keep gold jewelry as a special carrot as it has been in the past, while not really thinking through the knock on effects to master writs and the economy in general. Imo, they should have realized that they couldn't use gold jewels as their carrot anymore the moment that they introduced JC.

The failure to place distinct nodes for JC was also especially lazy. I realize it's tedious work to place nodes, but this *was* a chapter release after all, and it's not as if it isn't work they do for every DLC anyways. They should know the drill by now. That's what interns are for.

THE most important factor is adding chromium (grains or plating) as a chance of reward for doing jewelry writs...

Without this, the price will never drop - and they will remain worthless.

    Have to agree.

Especially the first point they are changing is a no brainer. Since some do not even empty a node completely as it is it seems obvious.

The second certainly had a significant amount of feedback during the last PTS. It seems Zos was just waiting to see if we were willing to accept such a system.

This is just another reason on a long list of why my game time and spending has declined in ESO to next to nothing.

Instead of making gradual changes to achieve a better result, you seem to make drastic changes that negatively impact players experiences and leave people wondering wtf jsut happened.

Wit vouchers were worth a certain Gold rate based on the original legendary writs in the game. Instead of copying the existing format of these vouchers by introducing a new craft line just like all the other craft lines, for some reason, you split the tempers into grains for no reason.

Over all the continued heated feedback of this incompetent change, that was disregarded before, this is the fix that you see as best?. If it is, your on the wrong track.

Firstly there was no reason to make a more complicated and different system than all the other crafting lines. Your causing more work for yourself that you do not need as ZOS can barely keep on top of the bugs, exploits and glitches that are rampant in ESO.

Secondly buffing the vouchers worth to ~500 per legendary writ has now negatively impacted all the other craft lines by the rewards there. It is no longer scale-able as there are different systems, one containing grains and one not, so good luck on making it 'fair' and rewarding.

Thirdly since you over buffed provisioning and jewellery now, they are the only writs i will be doing so you cut down my playtime again. There is no logic to doing the other writs as the rewards and cost per voucher is brain dead.

Played for ~3 years and have a strong account with ~170 days played on just one character. This is my basis for feedback but simply put, this is another nail into the coffin for ESO for me, which is a shame really.

Even with the changes JC master writs will be the worse gold to voucher ratio out of all the equipment crafts. We will still need OVER 5x the materials to complete. And the voucher rewards are only being improved 4x(at least from what I've seen on pts). You seem to be looking at the high vouchers but ignoring the high cost to do them. And the prices will remain high even once stabilized.

If you really think JC masters will be so great and you are on PCNA, I will gladly trade you JC master writs for your BS/WW/Cloth/Leather master writs on a 1 to 1 voucher value exchange. I will be making out like a bandit on this.

PC EU. I doubt i will need any as i run 15 characters, my main is 9 trait already with alts following closely behind. The point i was making that time VS gain, jewellery and provisioning Legendary writs are in the front, for me anyway. Plus i am already competently stocked with Jewellery mats and over 5 k unrefined dust and over 10,000 vouchers that i don't need to do anything with.

Since it is a different system, comparison and making it 'even' can not happen. There was no need for a new system in place that doesn't follow the previous crafting lines.

Additionally since this mistake on ZOS part and overhauling a system once again, how does players who spent time and gold to maximise this line feel?. Or upgraded jewels already to gold?. Or going to backdate the legendary writs that have already dropped and wasted peoples time just like provisioning ones x8 Psijic Ambrosias for 10 vouchers wasn't backdated?.

It was just a poor and uneducated move by ZOS that just reinforces to me anyway, they have lost the small grip they ever had on ESO.

Additionally do not take this as bashing a company as it is constructive criticism from a long term player, no need to ban me again :)

Why not instead of keeping this ridiculous grain system just double the platings cost for upgrades and make everything that drops grains now drop platings instead? It would also cut down on the pointless waste of inventory space.

Also, there is one change missing... I don't see a hireling.

This. This is a beautiful thing. <3

Or what is more likely, people will just take the dust and leave the ore, just like the worms in the alchemy plants.

Yes, but once the node is touched, it will despawn in a few minutes. If no one touches the node, it will never despawn. Even if someone just takes the dust, that node will despawn, allowing a new node to appear. That new node could be a jewelry node.

I've never seen a node despawn in any time. It doesn't despawn unless the entire area is reloaded, meaning no players in that area so no need to load it. I've even seen empty nodes often, usually enchanting nodes, that I go to loot and they disappear without a loot window. Those empty nodes never show the keen-eye glow but they still need to be cleared for new nodes.

You want to convince me? Video a node you have only partially looted and show me it disappearing after a few minutes on its own.

If anything, that timer is FAR too long.
