We posted this in another thread, but want to make sure you see it, too.
If you are getting error 209, please try the following:
-First, please ensure you are accessing the game via the launcher, not the .exe file.
-Try closing out of the launcher and re-open it, then run a repair.
-If you try to repair and it does not work, please delete all .version files in the game's sub folders and try repair again.
FIXED
--Delete the .version files. [there is 4x .version files one in each folder] (These 4 Need to be put back in their locations in the next steps)
--Run Launcher.
--Close Launcher.
--Open your recycle bin.
--Restore (Puts them back for you) the .version files.

Deleted version files, ran launcher which failed, then restored the version files. I'm in."
I have attached my versions for those who have lost theirs. ( you will need Winrar to open)

"""This worked for me also, though I had to do it several times to get it "right."
1) Make sure you're not running the client already when you delete the files. This will screw the process up.
2) Go to your Zenimax Online folder (default, I believe, is in Program Files (x86).
Inside the Zenimax Online folder, delete the following files:
Inside "Launcher" folder, delete "Bethesda.net_Launcher.version",
then back out of the "Launcher" folder into the Zenimax Online folder.
Inside "The Elder Scrolls Online" go to the "depot" folder, delete "depot.version" and go back to "TESO" folder.
Go to the "game" folder and delete "game_player.version", then back out to "TESO" folder.
Go to "vo_en" folder and delete "vo_en.version".
The above lists all four version files that need to be deleted, under the assumption that they are named the same as the ones in my folders. Basically, look for four ".version" files if you can't find those above.
3) Launch your client. I had to launch mine as an administrator, but I've been having to do this since day one.
4) WAIT. Wait for the client to fail to launch. Mine came up with an "ABORT" dialogue box. Close any dialogue box that appears and make certain the client is no longer running.
5) Go to your recycle bin, select all four files, right-click "restore".
6) Restart your client.
I now no longer have the "cannot determine version" error or the "repair" button on my client, and am back to "play." I hope the step-by-step helps. If clarification is needed, let me know.

Ah, thanks! That is legit, and you can go ahead and follow the steps given here."

No, close the client then restore the files as the OP instructed from your trash can. I did this and had to hit repair 4 times with error 209 but luckily by the 5th time the thing actually is repairing and patching now. Fingers crossed the game will properly patch now.

I'd wait.. the problem is with their servers. It's prime time again and they are going to have problems because of server overload.. Most of the problem we are having are on Zens side, they just won't admit it. Right now is the start of the most populated hours of the day for N/A and nearing the end of it for EU
I'm terrible at waiting, plus I'm still launching from the Beta client and yeah I know they said that's fine it will totally work and yada yada yada, but after this I'm just not sure. If I still have this problem after installing from the new client I may be a little upset. ><
You should be, we all should be. Problem is that too many don't care as long as they are not affected. If more people held these jerks in the gaming community responsible for the trash they release, the state of gaming wouldn't be in this sad state. The "it's normal' b.s. is just that... b.s.
Can't connect to server when I try this. Done EVERY single fix posted in this thread and now I can't even repair. When I hit repair, I get the can't determine version. What the hell zenimaxThere is a solution found on Reddit that also works if you go into the game files find game/client/eso.exe and run that it will launch your game and bypass the launcher thus avoiding the error.. I will test this soon as I finish re-patching.
Are you all checking your game version, though - and whether the game has patched? Getting past the 209 error does not mean you are playing version 1.0.3. If your game version says 1.0.0.968197 on your log-in screen your game is not patched yet.

Look at the file names.
Look at the folder names.
There's a connection
If you try to repair and it does not work, please delete all .version files in the game's sub folders and try repair again. Also make sure your recycle bin is empty before proceeding or rename the following version files listed based on your preference.
1) Make sure you're not running the client already when you delete the files. This will screw the process up.

3) Launch your client.
4) WAIT. Wait for the client start patching like it's downloading the full game again and ABORT
5) Go to your recycle bin, select all four files, right-click "restore".
6) Restart your client.
It may be because the patch wasn't able to install through your launcher and update your game. I wouldn't play on the old version, you may run into problems later on. Just a suggestion, though. After bypassing the launcher because of error 209, which I can't get ride of after following every piece of advice, I can log on and play. Even though my current version is 1.0.0.968197 for some reason.
