Well Zenimax is acting just like every other company at this point we care about
our customer, well there has ben no updates in this thread. Nothing from them at least.
Actually I have had better response's from F2P than what is going on here.
My suggest to everyone that is complain(even myself).
Go get you refunds from the place you bought the game through.

If you look at International, or your countries banking laws you will find it is Illegal to this, The pre authorization for a charge is for when you have purchased a product, Well in this case you are not purchasing a product they want to make sure your card is good.
Now they can charge you a 1 dollar, 2 dollar up to 5 dollar verification fee.
But they cannot pre authorize a 30 day in advance or take the money before you are actually paying for the service Under the law. Zenimax knows this
there merchant knows this is covered under international banking laws.
Either Zenimax or there merchant is in over there heads flip a coin to which it
    company.
That it in a nutshell, So I am going to give them a few more days to fix this problem. They have not replied to me in any way shape or form either, have had ticket in for over 24 hrs now. Even though I do have a CC and could put it up to play , I prefer game cards which I am not going to buy just to get my first 30 days free it is the Principle and Integrity of the company doing what they
said they were going to do.

    ignorance is bliss....

please link where they spelled out that the pre-auth would be full cost of sub?

One more time i hear someone say its only 15.00.... not everyone just chose the $15 sub some ppl chose the more pricey version which resulted unknowingly in some outstanding authorization charges and can lead to some financial probs as a result of this. to add not everyone has CC so they have to pay for another 30 days up front.

Your response is a classic "not my problem" response. your not even trying to understand the situation but instead insulting and using irrelevant logic to try and drive your "im right, you're wrong" point.

Have you ever bought gas? Have you ever rented a car? Have you ever booked a hotel room?

Some of you should try these arguments on those merchants. I'd be interested in hearing the results.

If you don't have a credit card, or can't use a credit card, and all you're left with is a game time card instead, can't you call them? Isn't that what they said? I do understand the argument. And my counter-argument is they will work with you. They said they don't want to deny anyone who wants to play.

So my question is- has anyone contacted their Support and been refused? Maybe that's the real thing. All I see is complaining over not being able to do what you want to do when you want to do it. Zenimax didn't say: "sorry, you need a CC. Can't play without one."

Irrelevant logic? Well, here's what I see is relevant. Zenimax lays down the rules. Some don't like the rules. Zenimax gives you an alternative. Flexibility. But it's still not enough.

One more thing. Would you sign up for the more pricey version if you didn't have the money? I wouldn't. But that's me. I won't judge. I have a suggestion. If you want to setup a 90-day and were charged a hold and can't afford the hold, my suggestion is setup a one-month. Now we are talking about a matter of Zenimax charging a $2 auth as opposed to the full. The difference being the price of a combo meal, or a movie ticket. Or smokes, depending on the state you live in.

Or let's say you are entirely cash basis and can't get to the bank to deposit the Benjamins you have lying around until Monday. I think I saw that argument too. I see. Well, you wait until Monday. Then you play.

Again, not getting what we want right now when we want it. That's the argument. It's not denial of service, unless one of you says you've been denied by their Support. Then that's a whole new ball game. So when you talk irrelevancy while at the same time refusing to acknowledge that Zenimax offers to help, I think you my friend just want to keep the bad feelings rolling. And that's too bad.

See, it's real easy to join the hate mob, because hate is easy. It's much harder to see the forest for the trees. Then we might have to admit what we thought before is not quite what we are seeing or hearing now. And crow is such a difficult bird to swallow.

Completely and totally quoted for maximum truth.

I seriously doubt anybody that's tried to contact service and actually talked to them has been completely and irrevocably denied.

The only people with a leg to stand on as far as being outraged would be people slapped with overdraft fees because of insufficient funds. Except for one little tidbit: Most(which could be anywhere from 51% and up) banks do not apply overdraft fees for authorization charges.

If your bank did...I'd suggest being mad at the bank, not Zenimax, because it's your bank that's shady and practicing underhanded business tactics to net a profit.

Edit: For some odd reason, it wanted to include my last post in this one.

I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

Acceptance of the end user license agreement, terms of service and privacy policy, and account registration using enclosed one-time use activation code, required to play. "Valid Payment method or paid game time card for subscription and persistent internet connection required."

My understanding of the above statement must be very different from many others here. As is my use of credit cards. I will just leave it at that. Hopefully they will respond to you and everyone else who feels inconvenienced, and you guys can all play very soon. May I recommend to Zenimax that they stream Pharrell as their on-hold music. It might break the animosity.

Upon setting up your subscription plan you may see an initial transaction against your account however this transaction is only temporary. The charge represents an authorization check against the account provided and will be removed once the authorization check is complete.

Exceptions to this general rule are Webmoney, ideal, PaySafeCard, and Giropay.

    [Update]
We want everyone who purchased ESO to have immediate access to the included 30 days of ESO game time. In the event that you enter your payment information for authorization and the transaction cancels due to lack of funds in your account, please contact our Support Team. We’ll work with you to ensure you have access to your included 30 days of game time.

Please ensure that you have attempted to enter payment information and had the transaction fail due to lack of funds before submitting a help request. We will get you into the game and playing as soon as possible.

We require you to choose a subscription option and enter valid payment information. For credit cards, debit cards and PayPal there is no charge made until after your included 30 days of game time has expired. For these payment methods, there is an authorization check performed to ensure the payment method is valid. You may see a temporary account authorization hold put on funds in your account while the verification completes. Usually this authorization hold lasts a short period of time before being removed. It can vary from bank to bank.

If you prefer to use one of the following payment methods, payment is processed at the time of selecting your preferred subscription plan.
    • Game Time Cards [via Retailer]
    • GiroPay
    • iDeal
    • Paysafe Card

This was the update 2 days ago, see updated part they will help us and want us in game asap bla bla bla...After that i tried several times with my CC and failed due to lack of funds and submitted help request via mail and heres the answer back:

    "Greetings, Adventurer
All players are required to set up and choose a subscription plan starting on Sunday, April 6th. Those players not eligible for Early Access will be asked to register their game code and set up a payment method or redeem a game-time card on their account starting on Thursday, April 3rd, at 7:00 p.m. EDT.

The 30 days of free game time are granted to all players who fill out their billing information and select a subscription plan."

They will NOT work with you to ensure you have access to your included 30 days of game time. I understand that you will not give that first free month without a CC at least stop lying about it...

If you read to ToS you will notice that they charge for a month 30 days in advance. You must notify ESO 30 days prior to canceling your subscription. Any charges that would take place during that time (even for a new month of subscription) will still take place. Subscription generally charges once every 30 days. Thus, you will always be charged for an addition 30 days of subscription. The amount people are being charged right now is not a validation amount, it is the amount for the next month of subscription. Also note that ESO reserves the right to change the price of the subscription at any time, with or without your consent or notice. This change can be made 30 days before the next payment (i.e. you could cancel your subscription and be faced with an increased fee for a month you will not use). Also if you are on a more expensive plan and do not cancel 30 days before it's end, you will be charged for the full amount of the more expensive term (i.e. 180 day subscribers will pay an additional term if they unsubscribe on the 150th day or later).

Please read the ToS when you have time. These support messages are very misleading/flat out lies. There was a support article on 4/3/14 that claimed you would not have to set up a subscription until after the 30 days was up. This was same time many people were charged for the game. I will include some excerpts from the ToS and that 4/3/14 notice below. Please do your reading before it's too late.

Some excerpts from the ToS relating to the above:

Your continued use of the Service thirty (30) days or more after ZeniMax provides such notice of the changes means that You accept such changes. If any change is unacceptable to You, You may cancel Your subscription at any time, but ZeniMax will not refund any fees or prorate fees for any subscription. Depending on the country where You reside, including if You live in the EEA, Norway, Switzerland or Australia, the law may require different provisions to apply which will be specified when You subscribe and/or in the specific notice provided to You. ..."

This is just bad business practice all around.

I don't mind the fact that with CC and Paypal purchases they want to authenticate the charge. But doing so with the full amount isn't right and it is not common business practice. So I can see why so many people are angry.

This whole issue has become a nightmare for people who either can't or prefer not to use Credit Cards or Paypal.

My issue is with the Game Time Cards which I am suppose to be able to use as a preferred payment method as stated by their very own release.

"If you prefer to use one of the following payment methods, payment is processed at the time of selecting your preferred subscription plan.

    Game Time Cards [via Retailer]
    GiroPay
    iDeal
    Paysafe Card
    WebMoney"
    - Refer to pg.1 of this thread and FAQ page

"We understand that there are gamers out there who might be skeptical about providing credit/debit card information. There are also gamers who might be too young to have a credit/debit card which is why time cards will come in handy.

The time cards are priced at $29.99 each and will offer gamers 60-day access to the game. This is pretty much the same if gamers were to pay a monthly subscription, although this means that gamers will have to run out and buy a new card if it runs out."

    http://www.ubergizmo.com/2014/04/bethesda-will-sell-the-elder-scrolls-online-time-cards/

Unfortunately, you can't use something ZOS doesn't even have in the retail stores yet!! At least not in Canada or the United States. I am not sure of elsewhere. I was informed by Future Shop, Best Buy, Walmart, EB Games and Amazon these cards will NOT be available until around April 28th, 2014.

Upon learning the Game Time Cards are not going to be available for 2-5weeks for most retailers. I sent an email to customer service to find out what is going to be done.

Daniel in customer service responded to me that I should go get a Prepaid Visa card and use that instead.

    ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE!!

I don't own a credit card. I will not use PayPal ever again. I refuse to use Prepaid CCs due to the extra fees a person is charged all the time to use them in my Country.

So much for being able to use my "PREFERRED" sub method!!

"The Early Access period has now ended. To activate your 30 days of included game time, log into your game account at account.elderscrollsonline.com and follow the prompts to select your preferred subscription method."

ZOS CSRs should not be attempting to force customers over to a sub method they do not want to use!

And what company in their right mind doesn't have a major subscription payment method like Game Time Cards available for purchase in retail stores at least a month prior to Launch so that their customers are prepared?

Before you assume, I don't have the funds to pay a sub for this game. I want to use GTCs because it give ME control over my sub method. I pay for what I want and only when I want and don't have to worry about something happening in my life and forgetting about cancelling a sub made on a CC. I have plenty of money in my safe ready to purchase several GTC's but, can't do that until they are in retail stores. It also makes it easier for friends and family to buy me cards to use for my Bday and Xmas.

There is no excuse what so ever for ZOS not to have something in place for those who want to use GTCs, knowing full well that these cards are NOT in retail stores yet. Those who choose to use GTCs as a preferred method of payment should be sent a code to their account email which will activate their 30-day free game play once entered. Then at the end of that time frame, their account should be locked until they enter a GTC code for the next 60 days.

The fact that the ZOS CSR was automatically attempting to force me to use a CC, Paypal or Prepaid CC as a method of payment instead of working with me to solve the issue with the payment method I prefer, tells me upfront that ZOS is attempting to force people to use pre-authorized monthly subscriptions that they may not want.

As a result of all of this, I have lost a lot of faith in the company as a whole. I don't trust their business practices any more, even though I love the game. I am even considering returning my 2 physical Imperial Editions to the store, or selling them for a mark up since I haven't even opened them yet.
Far too many characters to list any more.

I'm in the same boat as many here... don't have the funds in my account to cover a subscription now as I never expected the transaction to go through until the end of the 30 days (or at least close to it) - and my bank charges a fee for transactions denied due to lack of funds so I'll be hit with that too.

And I clicked on the "contact support" link in the first post hoping to get this sorted and all I get is a page with the menu and heading and nothing else - app won't load.

I'm not a huge MMO fan and ESO was first to convince me to give it a try - not loving it so far I can tell you!!

this is the answer I got yesterday (saturday)

    Greetings Natalia,

Thank you for contacting The Elder Scrolls Online Team.

I'm sorry to inform you that we do need to have to verify that the funds are in the account we actually wouldn't be taking any money out of your account today we simply are just verifying that the funds will be there for next month, but as we are still on grace period and you have 30 day's free trial we will grant you a few day's free play until you get the fund's together to set up your subscription.
I have transferred on your request to the appropriate team who should be in contact with you when the game time has been added to your account.
    Thanks again Natalia!

and after that nothing at all, so got no idea what is going at all. I dont know if I can log in now though, I could play like an hour ago still, but no answer and account page still says 3 days early access.

And as I said, we should not have to go out of our way to get a service we already paid for. Its a money grab to fill the coffers now verses in a month when I would be paying them. Never mind what if they end game sucks and I quit in three weeks when I hit 50 and am bored? I now wasted money to get what was already mine. Bait and switch is illegal.

They left their info in the phone support part of the site, later got called and solved it by being calm and polite on the phone with the CSR. If they're not sure what you're talking about, refer them to this thread (first post.) Or explain your situation carefully and try to solve it as efficiently as possible. They've helped others, there should be no problem helping you.

It seems like the waiting time is really long right now, that might be because the EU and US users have different queues(speculation, since some users seem to be called in 30 min and others several hours), and that it's sunday (and late depending on where you are.)

Someone a couple of pages ago who got help said that the CSR told him that he was really sorry for the long wait, that they HAVE to call the people in the order of signing up for phone support.

Seriously what is this nonsense, I can't play now because I am forced to set a subscription plan.

My "plan" is to use gamecards, starting from when I am done with the first 30 days.
Why can't I select gamecards and just play the game......

Do not buy into this "message us to get your free time" non sense. This is a money grab plain and simple and *** them, I have thirty days of time left on my account but they wont let me play a game I paid for. This is a bait and switch and it is illegal. If I wasn't poor I would sue them out of principle.

Several people who contacted phone support has gotten help already and been compensated for the missed days.

I would love to know how they have contacted them? been trying for 6 hours soon, and still no response?

They left their info in the phone support part of the site, later got called and solved it by being calm and polite on the phone with the CSR. If they're not sure what you're talking about, refer them to this thread (first post.) Or explain your situation carefully and try to solve it as efficiently as possible. Ive put in a phonecall back ticket 6 hours ago , and an email. even though i hulk rage in here, im of course gonna be polite with the CSR,( its not their fault). But still.. no reason what so ever to be authenticating and verifying that you have the funds for next month? that is *** to say the least. ive bought the game, gotten 30 days free time, thats all that matters, not wether or not i can pay for the next month, im not loaning money from them or something like that.

But since you apparently work for them or something like that, cant really figure that out, but you sure do know ALOT about their business, then perhaps you can answer this.

I bought the game from Zenimax and they need to verify i can pay for the next month, even though i allready payed up front for april.. why oh why, can my friends buy their game at Playgames, and get a new cdkey for april month in their email? . That just seems... well i dont know.. you tell me?

It is a shame that this problem has come into play. I do enjoy the game, and so far I have had little to no problems when it has come to Zenimax or any of their mutual partners that are helping them out with this game. But the verification fee seems a bit harsh, I am very lucky I had $15.73 in my card, or else this would have been harry for me. A little warning should have been added before you bought the game by Zenimax (or who ever Zenimax has to over see customer transactions) reminding the consumers of the additional $15 required in order to verify your payment option. This whole mess is a bit shady but I can get over it (seeing as I had the funds to pay for the game) but the fact remains that plenty of other people are still in misfortune with this decision. I do hope this mess gets cleared up as I am sure Zenimax is aware of this issue, so the best thing most of us can do is sit and wait.
The ebb and flow of life and death goes on, despite the names that are used to create both.

I can assure you I'm not working at Zenimax, I'm not even located in the US. I don't know A LOT about their business either, I've seen that phone support button before though, and have always preferred phone communication myself to reduce the risk of miscommunication and other nonsense.

I don't know what kind of keys your friends got, since I ordered on Zeni store as well. Up to this point I thought everyone had to set up a sub-plan and authorize before getting into the game, even the ones who bought the game boxed? Do you know if the key they got was a game time key or the actual cd-key they bound the game to their account with? Maybe it was some sort of package deal or something where they'd get a game card + the game? Not sure.

Another dead MMO cant put the box next to Warhammer, Aion, Conan. Been playing MMO's more than 9y i was so wrong being angry with Blizz at least they dont copy / paste answer to help tickets and after all these they expect ppl to pay another month. I found game cards at a local retailer tho dont care and wont buy it unless they give me my first free month. I already paid enough for the box and if they wont they can shove it to Molag Bal's ....

No clue, just know they bought the game there. Got a gamekey, redeemed it, got early access. Today, new email, new cdkey, 30 days free time.
