I really love the glow effect. Great for rp and immersion but granted I use it on my vampire magblade and my assassin/dark knight themed stamblade

I'm late finding this thread because I'd assumed the horrible constant red glow was just an oversight bug that would get fixed. I HATE it. I prefer to think of my nb as stealthy and stealthy people don't want to glow like Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer. Also, I don't like the color red and this glow is so strong that it reflects into my nightblades face and onto her clothing so everything is tinted red.

The glow serves no purpose at all if it is constant. Let it glow only when the bow is ready to proc, otherwise, why is it there at all? And it shouldn't glow when weapons are sheathed at all.

There are people who try to torment Nightblade in every possible way.
These are people who say "I like red light" even though they don't use Nightblade.
Those people don't like red light, they just like seeing Nightblade suffer.

For me it ruins RP and immersion. I'm not roleplaying a hazard light.

Too bad it only is seen by the player playing the night blade, if everyone could see it maybe other people would complain about it too. I’m still hoping for a way to make it go away through the new styling system when it makes it to class skills. But I’ll be so upset if our only choice is to be able to change it to another hideously bright color. That would just add insult to injury!

I think it's super cool, I can understand why people would find it annoying though. Perhaps it is better for it to only glow once your weapons are out?

I'll join the chorus saying that this permaglow is a horrible idea.

Subjectively, I think it is an ugly colour. Very ugly. And far too dominating, it puts the whole character in that garish glow, not just the weapons.
Objectively, it ruins every character design (regarding appearance and/or story background) that doesn't go with the colour (bright) red and/or some random magic glow. Which are a lot more than those that work with both.

It serves no practical purpose, either, because it doesn't signal when the bow is ready, it's just... always there.

For the few players who feel that it adds to their character concept a cosmetic option to achieve the glow would be a much better solution than having a class core skill dictating the whole appearance of a character.

Thankfully, I made my Nightblade Khajiit mostly for any thievery that might have to be done (originally to get the Morrowind House motifs), in which my main would never engage. (nowadays leads in safeboxes, endeavours and so on) So when I logged on and discovered that poor Purnima was permanently followed by a bordello advertisement I kicked the skill from my bar - what little fighting she does she can manage without it.
But if I wanted to play my Nightblade regularly through all kinds of content - which includes fighting, and thus being equipped to do it in an efficient way - this garish glow would be a real fun killer.

One thing that baffles me ontop of all the other issues with the state of this skill, is that when you cast skills that vanish your weapon, game has no issue with vanishing combat effect with them. But weapon that is supposed to vanish when holstered, no, impossible to turn off combat effect with that, why would you ask.

They have done something to siphoning strikes since last I played. The visual effect on that seems to be absent. But this glow still plagues me, I have genuinely resorted to using Executioner in place of Grim Focus, it gives me conniptions. And even if you could change the colour of it I would still want to hide it.

And also again someone else brought up that it nullifies the point of the weapon styles that hide the weapon when sheathed and you pay real money for those.

    But you are Sorc.
BBS warrior's Sorc has an unusual obsession with tormenting Nightblade.
I don't understand why Sorc spends his passion on getting in NB's way.

Returning player here. Nothing new to say. I think this effect looks really ugly and, as many others has pointed, the main issue is it's permanent. It would make sense if it was activated when you reach 5 stacks, as a visual notice, but in its current states is useless. I respect people who likes it, but for the ones who not it's a forced undesired cosmetic modification since there's is no option to turn it off.

I really hope it will be changed in an upcoming patch (sooner than later) because it's a very important skill for the class, and the current options are equip/unequip in certain situation (i.e. group content), which is a pain, or not equip it at all (which is worst).

Months later, I still hate the glow. I use the ability only if I absolutely have to, then I unslot it again.

This has led to me playing ESO considerably less in the last few months. I'm also not spending either gold or crowns or money on the game, since I see ZOS preferring to splurge on big RL celebrations of the 10 years of bugs, lags and ignoring its customers, rather than actually listening to them.

I still haven't bought the new expansion, though until now I've *always* bought the collector's edition the moment it was available.

I hate the glow. I will continue to hate the glow. And I will continue to be mostly absent from the game... We'll see whether I can find a good reason to also continue my subscription....

    ZOS please fix!

It's been a while now since many NBs' look was ruined with that red light, at least make it invisible when weapons are sheathed.

Gloambound weapons are a bad joke if you have Grim Focus on your bar.

It can't be that hard to fix, can it?

Well time reaffirm our thoughts. Mine is : It sucks. At least make is go away when weapons are sheathed.

I really hate “back glow” which lights up the rear or inside of things like armor and even the characters teeth.

    Not a fan.

Just wanted to follow up here. Thanks for the feedback so far. The Grim Focus glow is working as intended currently. However, we are monitoring player feedback on this. In feedback, please make sure to note why you like or dislike the glow, as we have seen player feedback regarding both.
Hi, @ZOS_Kevin , can we please have an update on this? :)

As you've probably noticed, opinions on this glow are mixed in this thread, however one common theme in the thread is that many of us would like the glow to be showing only when needed, and not all the time.

My personal preference is for the glow to be scaled based on the number of grim focus stacks, i.e. 1/5 glow intensity with 1 stack, scaling up to full intensity at 5 stacks. At least this way, if we want to get rid of the glow, we just have to use the skill, and then it's gone (until grim focus stacks are added again).

I just dislike it with a passion. It doesn't tell me anything by being there at all times other than reminding me I got the ability slotted which that little icon at the bottom on the bar already says pretty well. It just makes the game look worse, makes scribing look weird, etc.

Hey, I posted just last month!

From past experience, the absence of a response means that it is going to be left broken like this, with a visual that only you can see, and which serves no purpose but to aggravate you (or delight you, if glowing red works for your character and doesn’t ruin any weapon styles you may have paid for). So I would advise you choose accordingly: hazard-light DPS, gimped DPS, healer, tank, mule. I absolutely cannot stand the permaglow and so I now play my two remaining nightblades as a tank and a healer. I used to wish there was a Chokethorn dagger style to go with my bow, but now that I’ve traded those in for staff, shield, and mace, I can be nature-themed all the way! :grimace:

with the lack of care from ZOS about this obligatory glow, i did remove the skill definitily from my bar.

And i hated the idea that this glow inform my enemy that i use this skill,

its just another one added to the list. Inner light with this horrible eye in middle of my screen, and now this one.

And of course, i can not use anymore the gloam weapons due to this horrible mix of red and blue.

The more it goes, the game become horrible with all those violent and forced colors.

Here is the kicker, it does not.
Other players cannot see the glow from this skill, it only shows for you, with some weird exceptions.
If it did consistently show for others, it would have a reason to exist. Since it does not... well... it really is completely useless.

Thank you for explaining this to me. Unfortunatly, beside all the reasons i gave, there is a major one for me: at 70+ years old having front of me a red circle glowing permanently, is really hard on my eyes.

There is already so much glow during fights (not speaking even of the glow from mounts and pets) that i am forced to play alone more than i intended at first. I did 3 instances with a group, and i was not able to see anything through all the flashes of colour from the different classes, and could not see the enemy at all, even with tab to try to catch them.

Besides the issue of this non-informative red glow ruining the look many of us had created for our character, I really wish ZOS would address this issue and let players control how much of others’ effects they see, and indeed, reduce or eliminate light flashes.

Looking at how long this Grim Focus Permaglow issue has gone on for, coupled with the radio silence since that post about it working as intended...
And now with the low drop rate of Style Pages for this so called 'celebration event'.
8 days on Vvardenfell bosses (More the fool I of course for doing it.)
I'm done, this ain't fun no more.
I mean just look at the PC and PTS server issue going on.
It's become too easy for them to say they dropped the ball.
You don't even get free torchbugs for the fact anymore lol.

Successfully managed to cancel my Gold Road Deluxe Upgrade pre order today.
Can't say the same for my years subscription, apparently due to the crowns being credited all at once, so not even going to bother with it but hey I am gonna cut and run.

I simply cannot justify supporting ESO any longer.
I genuinely hope that those of you that detest this permaglow as much as I do... Are provided with a solution soon and that you are at least treated like valued Customers/Subscribers/Humans and receive some form of an update concerning this.
It really is the least they could do.

    I'm out...

And no..you can't have my stuff lol. It's going to my Guild Members.

I really like the red glow; however if it is creating so much difficulty for others then it can go away or be modified to be on/off or something and I would be fine.
I have difficulty with the green arcanist visuals so I understand how disruptive colors/lights can be.

I love the red glow because it fits my main nightblade's aesthetic. I think its fair to dislike it, and maybe it should be relegated to only being visible in combat. As for people saying that the glow should only be visible when you gain stacks, you clearly aren't familiar with the class. The glow itself was an indicator you had the buff active, when it was still an active cast ability, and had nothing to do with the stack mechanic. So yes, this being intentional is perfectly understandable. That said, even if they take the permaglow away, I'm fine with that. It doesn't fit all of my nightblades, and its not make or break for me. I've always been a gameplay focused person, and while aesthetics are huge for me as well, this means little to me at the end of the day.

I say, make it only on in combat, or be optional in some way. If there's a thread this long there's clearly some passion around this topic.
