Greetings, everyone. Thank you for your patience, and for providing us with your Game Consultant files.

We've investigated this "Unknown Error" issue, and it appears to be the result of packet loss between your Internet Service Provider and our game servers. We ask that you please contact your ISP to help resolve this issue. Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

Could I ask what exactly our ISP's would do about this issue?....like I doubt they can do anything...

What I find odd is that my ISP has no problems handling any of the other MMO's that I have had. And the beta, with its stress test and everything, ran smoothly not what, three weeks ago? My ISP didn't seem to have an issue with the build then.

just got disconnected with unknown error occurred from the verizon card. The game was very laggy and I was banking. This is the same error I get when zoning, but this hasn't happened before I switched to the unreliable connection.

Was actively pinging google's public DNS server at the time, so wasn't a complete ISP disconnection. Also still on ventrilo but can hear the lag.

Ping times from 180 to 386ms.

Also different with this ISP, I got right back in. No extended Requesting Character Load...

Sounds like they are passing the buck. All I know is, if this ain't fixed I want my money back because the game is not playable being disconnected every 5 minutes and being rolling back

Odd....if it is an issue with the ISP, why is it that another person in my house, on the same network, can play without any issue? None of this makes any sense.

Zenimax, that's not a satisfying answer. I know game launches are tough, but come on.

REALLY????????????? Thats it your blaming the ISP. How is that possible when we all have different ISPs, but yet are having the same problem????? I really hope this isn't your answer to the problem.

I'm on Comcast with a 60megabit connection. I highly doubt it is my ISP. For one, I have never had packet loss issues and for 6 years now, I have never had packet loss connection issues with any MMO I have played, and I play a lot. I'm currently active in several MMOS and all of them play just fine.

It doesn't make sense that it would be packet loss, with it being so widespread and affecting users on many different ISPs.

What is the IP Address to give my ISP when I tell them this is their fault?

That's it folks. We can all go back to whatever it is we were playing previously... on the same ISPs.

I do hope ISP packet loss is a joke. I have two very closely spec’d gaming PCs using the same AC router (& same ISP obviously). One PC works fine (or mostly fine only 2 or 3 drops and unknown errors, in almost12 hours of gaming yesterday). The other drops consistently after only a minute or two of being connected, even in just the character creator. The failing PC was using wireless initially, now cat5e to isolate local network issues. I’ve seen numerous reports from people on various forum websites indicating similar results. I spent a few hours yesterday troubleshooting, disabling background apps, services, AV, Firewall, repairing, rebuilding <user>\documents\ESO*\ etc.. I can buy there may be ISP issues in some cases, for some users… But it is obvious there are other problems contributing to this. And like many folks have stated, we have no issues with other MMOs. Please do not simply pawn this off as an ISP issue for everyone, and take some ownership. I expect there to be some issues that need to be worked out. It's new. But I would hope ESO is taking this seriously, and not just passing blame already.

Can some of you people do some trace routes to the game servers so we (I) can confirm if this is correct or not. For some of you he might be right

Which doesn't make sense because I just looked at my report and on my tracing route and ping results it showed I had no packets lost. So i wonder how they came to this conclusion.

I just fail to see how that can be, I have the best internet connection AT&T provides and this is the only game I have ever had this issue arise on. It's devastating. I've played many more demanding games, and calling our ISPs is useless if we have no information to give them to even attempt to check if it's their side or not.

What the ISP and zenimax can do is identify the bad hop and email the owner and hope they fix it. ISPs have more say in getting it fixed rather than some random company (zenimax) due to ISPs pay them to move traffic in a trickle down sort of way.

Auric, how do we do a trace route to their game server and I'll post one, I've been having issues since yesterday. I called the ISP, Time Warner, and they asked what I'd like them to do. My connection has been solid all day too, been testing it at DSLreports.com, doing a smokeping and line quality test. The smokeping is testing 3 routes to different parts of the country and all are doing fine (had a small packet drop to Kansas).

And like most on here, I never had this problem at all during the beta. Nor on any other MMO, ever.

When I get home I'll figure out the game servers ip and post a little primer on how to do a trace route and how to read it. Remember I am NOT a zenimax employee so don't assume anything I say is gospel. We don't have all the facts that they do. I can only help troubleshoot/identifying networking issues. Just a disclaimer so I don't get banned for giving my opinions on the veracity of thier statements.

Haha yah I got ya. Always gotta cover yourself. I guess if/when we get the game server IP I can give that to the ISP and see what they say. My smokeping is till going strong, no dropped pakets

Yeah. You got me a bit worried there. If you go back to page 6 you'll see a explanation of how packets travel around. Smoke ping the game servers and you'll have a better idea if his answer applies to you. Just pinging some other location only helps if the bad hop is close to you. If it's closer to zenimax servers pinging doesn't help

Just to make sure I'm clear, I'm using a much worse connection to the internet and not having this problem.

Verizon 3G on dslreports about 256k down 128k up 300ms ping to 8.8.8.8
Atlink Wifi on dslreports about 3Mb down/up 30ms ping to 8.8.8.8

Verizon is working. Atlink (Level3 reseller) is not. I'd still like to have the server IP's for traceroutes.
  • wunahokalugi
I called my ISP. 0% packet loss sub 5ms ping times between me and them. To you however....

Have you done the same with your ISP?

Can you give us server IP's so we can provide traceroutes to pinpoint the bad peering point that is likely at the bottom of this?

    Trace complete.

    Is that 184.84.180.11 you?

Why is packet loss only happening when I try to zone?

that 184.84.180.11 may be them, it goes to Akamai Tech, which is a firewall service.
