Well boys since MY ISP is so bad I will just watch netflix and stream twitch at the same time for the next hour or two and then play ESO without lag again after the peak hour is over

    Evening everyone,

While it is possible that the Unknown Error message could be a result of an ISP-related issue, it may also be a result of something else entirely. To help us narrow down exactly why you are receiving this error message, we ask that you please reach out our Customer Support team so that they can get additional information (such as a traceroute report), and troubleshoot further with you.

Just got home. Two reports attached in my case... one through the router directly facing the web and the other one through the router running the vpn config but also going through the same main router facing internet.

Having the same issue. I can log into the game and play anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes but then I get booted to the log-in screen with "an unknown error has occurred" This started in beta and I'm currently awaiting a reply to the fourth ticket I have filed on this problem. First ticket was filed on second beta weekend - never got answered. Second ticket was filed on third beta weekend - got a phone call back but best thing the tech could suggest was to disable the LiveSurvey. I had updated, uninstalled, installed and disabled the Live survey in attempts to fix this already. Third ticket was filed on fourth beta weekend and support directed me to run MSInfo and send them a file. After analyzing the file they suggested I run a clean boot and disable the anti-virus. That did not fix the problem. They suggested my RegRun Reanimator program might be causing the crashes. I uninstalled it but the disconnects kept happening.
Will keep you updated if/when I get this solved.

We are playing in a group of three. We played through stress tests and it was just fine. Now one of us have this problem with unknow error every time when he swtiches zones. He cannot log in the game after that for a really long time - the character is stuck on "loading character data" stage for a long time. Restarting the game or simply waiting for character to load does not help at all.
We have the same ISP and traceroute results, but only one of us have this particular problem.
Here is traceroute results that we all have

Alright. So. logically thinking my roommate and I (mostly my roommate) figured that because of these packet issues maybe there was something preventing large packets from going through. Turns out that out router had a DoS (denial of service) protection option turned on. We disabled it and now I've been connected for over 20 minutes. Might not seem like much but for me it's already 6 times longer than what I was able to get before. So, I recommend everyone check for anything that might block large packets from getting through your hardware. I'll post again with further news once I confirm that the issue is resolved to my satisfaction.

Sigh....maybe not. Got kicked like 3 minutes after posting this originally. Give it a shot though.

Given it 30 Mins for tonight but now I'm gonna have to call it quits. As I can't use Tracert I can't be sure it's not my ISP beyond the fact I'm posting here and able to load other games. So it could be a port issue that I may need to bring forward.

i was having the same problem while i was using my WiFi connection, always logging me out to a unknown error screen, even tho my router was like 5ft from my computer so i turned off wifi and switched to wired connection, everything was fine after that, idk why but WiFi connection would give me that error.

This become really annoing... What should i do? Now i'm desync instantly after login and couple minutes later get "unknown error".This is NOT my, my ISP, or my hardware problem. This is my time and my money.

    Finally, right topic...

So, got the same problem yesterday and as many of you it didn't happen to me during the beta (but I only played one day). Anyway...wifi here.
I played this afternoon (it was afternoon to me - Australia) and didn't have the issue, not even once. Now it is happening every 30 seconds or so. I cannot see what could have possibly changed.

People keep saying they heard of a friend of friend of friend of their neighbors that plays a NB and can catch up with dks and sorcs and this guy just never shows up. He would be a rock star if he existed.

Well, this is not the better internet out there but look the packet loss. So yeah, it is NOT my ISP. So Zenimax, DEAL with it and do your job please. Stop waste our time.

For me the problem seemed to be that i had LTE dongle connection yesterday, got to fixed land line today and all going smoothly. Hope ZOS can find some fix to this.

I never had any problems during beta with same ISP so I have to wonder if that is really the problem. I'm playing on EU servers now and I played on both US and EU during beta no problem.

I don't seem to have it as bad as some others, I can sometimes play for hours without any major problem but now and again loading screens freeze or it lags and disconnects me.

To me it seems more likely a problem on the server end, since I played yesterday in the day without a hitch. Then it hit around 4-5pm (servers got busy) and I started to get lag, unknown errors and disconnects that lasted for the rest of the evening. Be interesting to see if same happens today.

I am still experiencing these issues. I have even contacted my ISP about this issue, and what do you know, they did not do much, they told me to contact Zenimax, not them (the isp).

Has anyone tried setting a static IP address to see if that helps?

I can't play on my brand new rig because of this error, but my old junky computer 5 feet away plays the game flawlessly. It's obviously my ISP's fault :)

I canceled my Imperial Edition pre-order last minute, because I was continually getting disconnected from the game during beta. Now the first beta I was in, with an older launcher, I did not have this issue, but since the newer launcher I have been plagued with crashing to the login screen every 5 minutes to an hour or so. The game is launched and they are apparently still not even acknowledging that this is a major issue. So, how can we expect a fix when they won't recognize the problem? And this is seriously costing and going to cost them possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars in subscriptions as well. I will check back on the forums to see if this is fixed every so often, but I am not holding my breath at this point.

When we contact our ISP, what exactly should we say?

It is so weird, I can play for hours on end with no issue, I've played for 6 hours straight yesterday. But 50% of the time trying to login I'm kicked back to login with 'unknown error'. Could this be because my packets are going through different servers at different times of the day?

I'm not very techy when it comes to networking, so a idiots guide to talking to an IPS's foreign customer support call handler would be really useful.

I've flagged this issue with a few MMO sites and gaming magazines. I think the lack of detailed response from Zenimax is only fuelling confusion on the matter.

Okay after much testing yesterday I think I finally have this solved on my end. It looks like this stems from multiple things and I had to configure everything properly. I was originally changing one setting at a time to try and find the problem cause and nothing was working.

So here is what I had to do:

    1) Add eso.exe as an exception to Windows Firewall for Inbound Rules
    2) With my network setup, I have a central box in the basement where the Comcast modem/router is. I had to port forward the ESO Ports 24100 through 24131 and Ports 24500 through 24507 to my actual router. I don't use the Comcast modem as a router because it's not as good at WiFi, especially being in the basement.
    3) Set the security on the Comcast modem to "low". At medium security, it blocks something ESO needs.
    4) Run a repair on your ESO installation. (Game Options above news -> Repair). When I ran mine it did detect errors and downloaded new/updated files.
    5) If your router supports it, make sure UPnP is enabled.
    6) (Optionally, if you are still getting the error) forward the ESO Ports 24100 through 24131 and Ports 24500 through 24507 to your computer/laptop. I currently have this setup, but might try removing it as i'd like my wife to be able to play at the same time eventually. Currently, ESO is overheating/crashing her laptop where it shuts down after 5-10 minutes so it's pretty much unplayable.

I think that's everything. Again, it was all or nothing for me. If I only did one of the steps above, I still got kicked from the game with the same error so it looks like it has to be setup perfectly for ESO to work. I have no idea what they do different than every MMO because I have never had to do this before...

After a 1 hour conversation with my ISP, they have identified packet loss to the Zenimax servers. My packet loss is across the board thought, so it might not necessarily be the best example. However, After setting up a DMZ, and some other things I am stlll experiencing a problem. I am out of options to provide useful info thouggh as it won't be until the 8th before my isp can come out and check my local hardware and cable lines.

I set up a VPN and then switched to a complete DMZ and much to my chagrin, it didn't work. My isp, as I noted earlier, did find packet loss. In some sectors and test as much as 70% loss.
