It's a cold, calculated business decision, nothing more. At this point... if I was in charge over there I would sit down with everyone around a kitchen table... figure out where all the problems are and just rebuild the game from scratch. Forget trying to patch an 8 year old game and putting everyone thru burdensome changes. Just rebuild it and move the characters over if you can and move on.

I think this is the key, right here.
There is no empathy for the players, or respect for the millions of hours we have spent on replaying the game and collecting achievements with our alts. The coldness isn't just in the business decision that was taken, but also most critically in the wall of silence that was erected around it. That's the aspect that I find the most disappointing, and the most surprising as even for a company not renowned for its communication skills ZOS have previously tended to explain controversial changes and discuss them openly with the community which simply hasn't happened in any meaningful way in this case.

No they don’t. Turn off your skyshards or Map Pins addons. Only the skyshards achievements are account wide, not the shards themselves.

How do you keep track of what skyshards are taken and what are not on dosen chars then? Excel spreadsheet like the one we used to keep for alchemy? Seriously?

Another thing I love (and have requested more of more often perhaps than expressing appreciation for what we do have) is being able to make choices, and that’s one of the things I have frequently enjoyed about side quests in zones as there is often a choice in the outcomes. And that’s also been the case in several dungeons and my characters may be praised or criticized for their deeds and choices. Will that now all be the same?
All this great work will be turned into a negative if characters are going to be praised or reviled for things they’ve never done. If I have any confusion, this is it: How is this deemed an acceptable sacrifice for anything? For performance? For some additional feature? This is such an essential part of the game.

Matt Firor is the boss, ultimately it's his decision. And he has remained silent on the matter. We don't even know if he's read a single post about it.
It's easy to point fingers at Gina and Kevin and the forum moderators, but it's not their call. They are just the messengers that have to deal with the "cranky" players.

This is also what I would like because that is how I play the game. I recently made my first alt in a few years and was really looking forward to completing every quest and every map objective in every zone, like my 3 characters before her did.
Is there some way that completing the map objectives could be connected to something other than the achievements so they could skill be tracked per character?

Sure there could. But that would gobble up as much resources, if not more, than the current system. So that is not going to happen either, I think. (But if someone more adept in databases knows better, feel free to correct me.)

I'm not sure it would. Would a client side option work without using up resources if there was one? I don't know how this works either but am hopeful that a way to track map completion may be found.

I think this was already talked about, and the conclusion is that anything client side is easy to tamper with. Also, if you lose your hard drive, you will have lost everything with no way to get it back.
I imagine it's probably because the code is already tracking exploration discovery points independently of achievements, and the zone guide and map icons are keyed off of that data set and not achievements. The same thing goes for points of interest, mundus stones and wayshrines.tomofhyrule wrote: »I don't understand why striking locales work but delves dons, but I really hope ZOS just makes the exploration and quest achievements all character-based until their 'elegant solution' has been found

On pts a new-made character is already saviour of the virtual universe.
The difference is really noticeable. It makes no sense, is deeply jarring and is most unpleasant.
There has to be some way to save this richness of individual character development going forward.

So at least for those on PC, you won't need to fear loading your alts in the wrong order on launch day, since there won't be any partial credit given to anyone. Achievements that were completed before Update 33 will retain their "earned by" tooltips, as well as single-objective achievements earned after Update 33 launches.
Just look at how they spoke about companions being a "well received" update, when criticism and dissatisfaction continues to be voiced concerning them, both on the forums and in game. There are still daily discussions in zone chat about them, its become almost as big a meme as the infamous Stuga..
Lip service, essentially. Notice how the Q&A didn't come out until AFTER the article stating it's coming next update? They knew they wouldn't actually take into consideration the legitimate concerns of players and the number of bugs and glitches this will cause, they were just stalling until it was made official with the article that it's happening.dzugarueb17_ESO wrote: »What am I going to say is harsh.
Do you realize, that most of your players play this game because no other new Elder Scrolls game is on the horizon?
You're going to gut replayability of a basically single player (because it is - for so, so many people) game, for what, slight DB size reduction?
Yeah, this really can't affect performance in any way - I work as a game developer longer than I'm here with you (for 8 years btw), and I've seen various systems and databases along the way - and the reason stated is completely baffling to me (as for many other people).
Maybe you can fix the quests and quest consequences (a very important thing for a single player RPG, mind), but considering you fix some bugs in quests for years - can we count on you fixing this enormous disaster we see it on PTS in such a miniscule timeframe? I guess we realistically can't.
Ok, putting aside quests - zone guide shows delves and dolmens and whatnot as completed on a brand new toon - this is not a glaring bug to you, like, seriously? You won't even acknowledge this as a bug? What about other achiev only trackers - riddles, etc.? Thats a disaster.
You've done a lot of great QoL things for a single player, convenient and replayable experience, basically the whole history if ESO shows commitment to a single player player base - One Tamriel, companions, alchemy tracking etc. - it was really great. But now you're taking a step in a whole other direction and the huge player opinion split shows that. Why?
Please, delay this thing, it definitely needs to be worked on more. Its basically "resources scarcity" from Eve Online reddit situation - there is no shame in devs admitting the decision is rushed and taking time to work on it.
Most of this, in some form or another, has been said since the day one of the PTS cycle. They ignored all of it and are doubling-down on burning their game from the inside.
Yes, regardless of the potential fallout, they are already past the point of no return. The official announcement being put up on the website after weeks of "feedback" means it's a done deal. And probably has been since before it dropped on the PTS.
Which makes me curious as to why they stated that they would be 'reviewing our concerns', if it was all a moot point?
newtinmpls wrote: »I still can't believe it was released on PTS in this state. Did they think we wanted all our characters to just play dress up and drag queen each other as if they're all the same person? It's just so gross for an Elder Scrolls game!
Apparently they think some people wanted that - and apparently some do.
Hard to tell actual percent wise, and seriously, how would you gather or sort data to assess this? (semi-serious question)
I think it's going to be a case of "be careful what you wish for." A lot of folks came to this thread (and others) early on saying, "Yay, AWA finally!" But when they read the details and saw the actual implementation, were like, "OK, maybe this needs more work, this isn't exactly what I was hoping for." And ZOS has spun it by saying 'You guys have been requesting this for years!'.... essentially placing the burden of responsibility squarely upon the shoulders of the players themselves.
Just got an achievement on an alt... still got a rush when getting it. Too bad that feeling will be lost in 2 weeks
