I've been watching New World streams today and the game doesn't look good at all. Moving and combat are very clunky and slow and five players doing a dungeon was them just spamming one attack almost exclusively and facetanking.

The setting doesn't interest me either. I don't want to be fantasy conquistador. I'd rather be a demon fighting those evil people.

Thats what everyone said about eso at the start, New world is improving faster than eso tho.

All I hear is overhyping. The game is being released in a month. They won't do a complete overhaul before that.

They might have to do a complete overhaul some time after the release because people don't like how it works. Just like ESO had to.

I watched a couple of streams and as someone interested in PvP it looked pretty poor.

They only seem to have what are basically PvE servers where you can optionally flag for PvP, so most players don't seem flagged. And then even when someone got a fight it seemed way too easy for people to run away.

The people I play with aren’t in it for the dungeons. It’s been weeks, literally since I have been in a dungeon and I did it for gear. Seeing as though it’s still in beta I would would assume more of those things that will be added along the way.

Honestly I don’t understand the appeal, and I don’t have enough time to start another game currently.

But that doesn’t change the enormous numbers of those of those already left with zero intention of logging in again.

The PvPers who left for NW, would have left anyway for the next shiny PvP game that came along.

It looks more like a survival game than anything else.

They also have 50v50 battles with keep defense. It's like Cyrodiil but one giant keep and a few flags outside to capture. To take over a settlement that's owned by a company in another faction you initiate a war (pvp).
I believe they have other pvp gamemodes as well, but I don't know a whole lot about them.

People always come back to the MMO they've spent the most time on. NW is not a competitor to ESO, and ESO is not a competitor to NW. It's being pushed so hard right now because it wants in on the ongoing XIV vs WoW war, stealing a bit of potential players from both. There's a nice Polish/Hungarian saying that goes "Where two parties fight, the third one comes out on top". The two parties are WoW and XIV, now joined by a third - NW. ESO is minding its own business in another room.

My totally personal opinion from playing the NW beta. I say 'playing' but I've spent more time in queues, crashes to desktop and having to delete files and re-install than I've spent playing. It's a beta and completly understandable, but I wouldn't class that as 'polished'.

First off the character creator is like something from a ten year old game. You choose a body type, skin-tone, hair, hair colour and eye colour. There are 7 or so scars, freckles and birthmarks. There are about 10 facial tattoos. That's it. You have a preset face with no sliders, no way to change body height or weight. The hairstyles are mostly vaguely familiar, think Fallout, Dragon Age etc. The hairstyle I chose is pretty much the same one I used in Dragon Age 2. Now a lot of ppl on their forums are saying that they don't think this is important. I personally think it is very important in an MMO, more so than a single player, because in NW you load into a world with basically just clones.

There are no classes, which has advantages certainly, but it feels like another way of personalising your character is missing.

PvE combat: It's OK. But it's not fluid like ESO's, you can't start to attack change your mind and block or dodge-roll for example. You are locked in, so you have to have more of a rhythm going, light attack, block, heavy attack, dodge roll etc. It's not bad at all, but I find it clunkier because I am used to ESO's system. I haven't tried all of the weapons, but the fire staff which would be my preferred weapon is very underpowered compared to the melee weapons. The long spear is great fun though. You have just two skills bound to Q and R.

PvP: Haven't had chance to try it out but I see plently of ppl in game and on their forums complaining that not enough people flag for PvP or they flag and then immediately get ganked by a larger group. I'm not a PvPer so make of that what you will.

The visuals are good, the towns are charming, there is player housing and the crafting system seems pretty robust, but nothing unusual about it. The performance is good when I can manage to stay in the game for more than half an hour, despite the fact that my PC is a little under spec. My main concern is that all the things that are lacking such as mounts, pets, cosmetics, armour styles etc will eventually wind up in a cash store. Could be wrong, but then ESO said they'd never have a cash store...

The reason lots of ESO peeps, streamers and content creators are playing NW is because, like me, they got beta keys. This does not mean they will go on to buy the game, I probably won't.

TLDR: It's a good game, but generic, it is NOT an ESO, WOW or anything else killer imo.

I did the alpha and a couple of betas of NW. Finally cancelled my preorder. While the game has the shiny stuff you would expect for something built on new hard and soft wares overall it was just repetitive and boring. It is far more BDO than ESO in concept. I am happy to no longer have it on my machine.
