i definitely plan on switching, or at least trying out New World.

My biggest gripe with this game is the Lore is a convoluted mess. Artifact after artifact after ritual after ritual all with the power to destroy the world....so boring. The lore in ESO is such a contradictory disaster, there is no saving it, they just keep adding Lore on top of Lore with each expansion....you can be sure with the next expansion there will be more artifacts and more rituals that must be found/stopped lest the world be destroyed. Yawn.

lol omg… i played the New World beta today for several hours… it’s in no way an ESO killer. I don’t see New World succeeding unless they make some major changes, including adding more content. They should’ve delayed the release for another year to give it some more heart. Maybe I’ll try it out again in 2 or 3 years if it’s still around.

New World is a niche product atm.
it's a mediocre mix of ESO/Dark Souls/Survival Games with quite a few problems.
they still have a lot of work to do until i'd actually recommend it.
but the worst issue will be the upcoming monetization, especially since the "fast travel only if you pay real money" will only be the tip of the iceberg.
there were more meetings on how to monetize it than in any other comparable game BY FAR.
this game was made with the intention to squeeze money out of players on a scale, that EA would be proud.
next year around this time, amazon greed in gaming will be held up to the same standard as EA Sports Games.

    + ES lore
+ solo pve/pvp, group pve/pvp - play how you want
    + ton of RP options
+ mega giga ton of non-combat content

Also for me there is no point to start new MMO. I just have no time to "maintenance" another one.

Wouldn't say ULTRA EXCITED, but bare with me for a second:
If we all consider ourselves customers of a product instead of "get-good" gamers.
Would you for example withstand your specific favorite genre of movies / series to always have intense lag in some random online entertainment service, for example Netflix?
Would this cause you to recommend said service to your circle of friends?

Cyro is one of the most, if not the most fun to be had in ESO according to me. The randomness of the human element constantly brings it to that peak level of excitement. If this part of the online service doesn't work (or always frustrate), e.g. my favorite genre of movies on Netflix is always buffering, then it's no wonder people, the customer, starts wanting something better.
Now "suddenly" a new brand comes out, where said specific favorite genre works flawlessly, of course it's a no-brainer to jump on the hype-train.

Though these kind of products takes insane amounts of man-hours to develop, and with everything that could go wrong in mind, I'll just observe what comes out of this competitor. At this point of time, every spot of grass looks greener on the other side of Cyro.

Not even gonna start the greed debate, since OP specified PvP (and communication).

I've been and I'm trying the beta.
I like the game a bit but theres a lot missing. By missing I don't mean more content. Feels disjointed. The game as you know was gonna be pure survival pvp and was a mess and then they decided to add pve. But the pve part is mainly crafting-gathering and some dungeons.
Is not that is bad...is that I fear the whole pve is maybe just to attract more people but the real content is pvp.

Tbh...this topic starts,as someone says,as a fake amazon review. The game is not that bad but is not by any means an eso or whagever killer.

I don't like pvp but the pvp of that game with firts etc is really boring to me.

So from a pve pow...is never gonna offer more than ESO. Different things. I think it's impossible to fix all the broken pieces from that game anyway.

Time will tell but in no way that game is gonna kill ESO.

I'll chime in with my experience and perception:

New World graphics and aesthetics look great, however everything else doesn't look that appealing to me, at all. I prefer the ES world, and frankly the combat in ESO seems better to me.

I know people always panic whenever a new MMO releases, the reality is some people will leave to play it, but also a lot of people won't.

I do agree with you that ZOS should be doing a better job in communicating, it shouldn't take the release of a new game to achieve that.

People are still playing Fallout 76. Worst AAA MMO game in the history of games when it launched. A true dumpster fire. I love ESO and the TES lore but many people like me are sick of how this game is managed. And that is the real elephant in the room.

It's thriving NOW, what are you talking about? They are adding new servers, improved graphics for new consoles, etc. They are doing this all the while PVP players are a minority in the game. Furthermore, as I said, I seriously doubt a "huge number" of PVP players are spending a lot of money in the game. If a player is PVP-centric, they don't care about motifs, or mounts, or XP scrolls, costumes, etc... the only thing they do is log in and PVP. No questing, no crafting, etc. Sure there are those who do both PVE and PVP... but I'm speaking of those who ONLY PVP.

Have you ever even been in Cyro? I assure you they purchase more than their fair share of crown store cosmetics - that is as plain as day. Keep in mind there’s no real lucrative crowns for gold trade coming out of PvP compared to PvE achievement carries - so those PvP mains are most likely spending real money on the game. Mounts and motifs are visible in multiples first day of their release - so those PvP mains you’re so disparaging of are often buying cosmetics outright day one while PvE mains like us go out to farm them over a period of time instead.

End of the day - cosmetics are one of the few things that PvP mains can consider regular “content” that they can be interested in where quests, raids and dungeons have no value.

And let’s not make things up. They upgraded old hardware with new replacements - they did not “add new servers”. They even said we’d notice no differences.

Lastly - who the hell buys XP scrolls??

Everyone likes new and shiny things... streamers want to keep and increase viewership, so obviously they are going to stream new content. Same for guildies who are bored with an older game and are looking for something new. This isn't surprising or alarming to me.

In any case, anyone wanting to give their money to Bezos but has issues supporting ESO (even though there are many reasons to be frustrated) needs to have a long sit down to think about "speaking with their money" imo....

I don’t just mean the size of the world when I refer to “world building”. I actually refer just as much to the lore and the history of the world — the aedra and daedra — the dragonborn — tiber septim— the tribunal, etc. These are all things that bring the game to life for somebody like me.

These two are not even in ESO timeline, so how do they bring the game to life?

The biggest problem for ESO is that the world content is too easy making quest not interesting (and with awful rewards) particularly if you are a long time player.

Also, the gathering and crafting in New World is more interesting, at least at the start.

Usually ANYTHING is more interesting at the start... someone coming to ESO would probably also find it to be interesting at the start... it's because you're learning a new system and that's always interesting. However, when you play a game over YEARS, it usually becomes mundane and boring... especially if new things aren't added for you to learn. Even game difficulty is harder when you're new, you don't have a leveled crafter, you don't have the best sets, you don't have CP... but over time, as your character grows, everything becomes easier. That's the reality of an MMO.

Furthermore, 'quests' shouldn't be difficult... a very large segment of the players don't want to play a game for 'difficulty' they want to play to relax and enjoy the quests. Difficulty in ESO is reserved for VET content, where players can CHOOSE to engage in or not. Rewards? Most of us play because we enjoy the game, it isn't the rewards that propel us further, it's simply the enjoyment of playing our character.

I bought New World and within 3 hours of play, refunded it. On leveling my character the first time, I could see a hellish BDO like grind to advance your character. And the "convenience item" cash shop is already in place. In their forums PvPers are already complaining about how few people are flagged for PvP. I can New World being entertaining to play for a month or so, (just like BDO), then the magic will wear off and the grind will set in. ESO has things to worry about, but New World isn't one of them.

Character creation was my first disappointment in New Word. It's like a 20yo MMO.
Combat is clunky, and I think ESO is better (and I don't like ESO combat).
Travel is slow beyond belief, and there is a time limit on inn recall so I just exit the game.
Art style is not exactly my liking, and I'm more a fan of the normal D&D fantasy type MMO, without guns.

However, I'll probably keep my pre-order and play some. I played ESO beta and did not buy it because it had issues back then too, then 7 years later find I'm playing it.

There is another MMO I'm still waiting for, but don't expect it'll ever get out of it's aplha/beta phase as it's been 7 years since I supported it on kickstarter.

Based on what I've seen... it is a completely different game. One that's focused on PVP/Group PVE... one review I read stated it was worse than BDO.

Many players here are playing because of the ES lore, but also because it's a game focusing on solo content. I don't play because of lore or because of PVP or group content... I play because of the solo content. I don't believe it is a threat to ESO, if anything, it's a major threat to WOW and FFXIV.

Whether it's a completely different type of game isn't really the point here. The point is that our friends, guildies, fellow ESO players are leaving for it, and many of us, some who have played the game since beta/April 2014 like me, believe that ZOS could well breathe new life into ESO. If they just stopped for a moment, listened to their customers and gave it a good serious thought.

I would say this would more merit if you where refering to ashes of creation, as the people behind that are players from lineage 2, gone developer, I believe.

    Or

If it where a mmo that was a spiritual successor to starwars galaxies.

I don't think an mmo made by a greedy business ceo being pushed on the streaming platform he just acuired is going to do it.

Like said, pvp centered players and maybe even people leaving wow will go to it to make a base community but I am pretty sure the hype will die down as people power level to the end content / get play time on it.

Every new mmo is always the "killer / end" of existing mmo's and I doubt one made by a company like Amazon will do it.

New world seems to be a whole lot more polished so far than ESO and it's in beta. That's extremely alarming, since it makes ESO feel like it's stuck in Alpha right now and there's like 8 years of difference between the two titles. Devs are actively communicating with their playerbase in New World, updates are logical and sensical and breathe more life into the game with each release. I can't say the same about ESO in all its aspects. You, ZOS, need to start communicating and working on ESO more and listen to player feedback! Cause it's going to geta whole lot worse if you don't. Updates need to improve the game, not set it back.

Just look at player count dropping, everyone talks about it in guild chats + I'm noticing a new trend between ESO youtubers and streamers where they're all dropping ESO content for more New World beta content. Especially PvP.

Please don't let us down, ZOS. This game has the potential to be the best MMO out there if both you and us start to openly communicate and the time to do so is NOW! cause Amazon is breathing down your neck.

I've been in ESO for 7 years and tbh I'm sick of all the radical changes to Races, Skills, Champion Points and on and on. ZOS doesn't make "little" changes. They drop atomic bombs in the game which destroy character builds we've spent hundreds of hours on refining and tons of gold on improving.

At one time I was playing on four active accounts with ESO plus on them all because I had so many builds to play. Now I am active on three accounts and have canceled ESO Plus on all but my highest CP account. 1711, 954, 476 CP are where I left my accounts. I still login and logout for the daily login but that's it.

So New World? Yes. Absolutely. It is nothing like it was a year ago. Today it's polished and plays quite well. I am definitely going to be playing New World. I am also participating in Ashes of Creation and have been since October 2018. That game is absolutely amazing and the current Alpha One going on is really good.

We all eventually move on to other games or just grow tired of playing games. Maybe that is where I am today but I can certainly say that ZOS has curbed my desire to play ESO atm. Maybe I will change my mind with the next DLC release??

Most people I ran dungeons and trials with are no longer playing ESO. I can't say why they are not playing but perhaps they too are sick of the radical changes to ESO.

    Have a good day everyone!

Amazing the callous attitude that PvEers have toward people who joined this game for PvP, especially from the beginning, but now can’t play because of ZOS’ inability to improve performance. I love PvP however I don’t take anything anything away from people who hate it.

Many even find the notion of pvping "offensive". I remember reading threads about pvers who found duelling in cities "offensive" and they "didn't want to see it". They could care less how pvpers feel, when we're entitled to enjoy the game just as much as they are. It's pretty upsetting. I'd like it if both sides got along and wished the best for each other, but there's way too much resentment for pvp for that to ever happen.

Agree with you. I really don't get it why people are "offended" by anything in a game tbh. Just blows my mind. It is a game after all. Not real life.
