Those same people who you say we should hate , have been giving their feedback on pvp for years now. There were a lot of cases where the overall pvp community would complain about certain changes stating it would make zergs even worse but no one cared about what pvpers thought at that time (and if memory serves me right every single time someone would mention it, he would get berated by people who think like you). It has nothing to do with the players. PvP has been dismantled to it's core , the developers are aware they added too many things too quick and now they are trying to deal with it , which leads to even more bad dessisions. For the longest time they refused to do any balancing based on PvP and this is the result. They are just now starting to gradually turn it around . All the changes for the past year indicate that they know their pvp is all wrong, and they have taken some good steps towards fixing it. Still not there though, but in my opinion, pvp is the best it has been in the last couple of years when it comes to balance.

I agree PvP is currently the best in years. Problem is, unless the PTS battle spirit, inner fire and revealing flare changes get reverted, next patch will be the worst xD.

Yep those changes are just another example of them responding to the "outcry" of some players without really thinking about it.

I remember when Kotor was launched. It was supposed to kill every MMO back then. I was playing Lotro at that time. Everyone was thinking the same thing back then, but nothing really happened. It's always the same thing, nothing changes. Things might stir up for a couple of months but after that it's business as usual.

Here's my take (and I'm worried)..

I don't think NW will impact ESO much as a whole in terms of its open-world/questing/dungeons etc. But I do think it will destroy PVP.

Lets face it, ESO PVP is currently teetering on the brink. Prime-time Cyro doesn't have 3 locked factions in a single campaign. And we all know how much quieter Cyro gets once everyone is down to 2 or 3 bars - it almost stops aside from some pvdoor or a bit of intermittent tower-humping.

PVPers will go and try NW as long as there is a perception that it offers good PVP with good performance. And it won't take many for Cyro to sink to 2/3bars on all factions prime-time - which would mean the death of PVP causing those who remain to also move on. Even if people don't like NW and trickle back to ESO, they will go to Cyro, see how empty (and therefore boring it is) and go back to NW.

There is this population tipping-point for healthy PVP that I fear will be reached because we are very close to it already.


And it's due to perception. I wasn't going to try NW - I was really put off by the concept of wars being 'scheduled events' - but after hearing about ESO streamers shifting to it, PVP guilds talking about moving there etc. etc.. it's starting to sound like Cyro will die - so I should also play NW when it launches or be forever playing catch-up there. i.e. my perception has changed, partially due to this thread.

Regardless of how good/bad it is - I fear it's launch could destroy Cyro with no going back.

Never having heard of this game, I checked reviews and several videos. Don't think ESO has anything to worry about. Some players have had their GPU fried with this game, that's alarming to me. No sub, but talk is of monetization via things like buying exp. No mounts. One reviewer suggested waiting for 6 months before leaping into this game. Frankly from what I saw it doesn't appeal to me in the slightest.

That just one player who fried his GPU b/c he did not know the hi fps problem would fry his graphics card. Other players who read the article and know what they are doing just force global vsync to prevent unintended hi fps that reportedly fries GPU.

Edit i was like people don’t know vsync is a thing?

Weird, I see people complaining about New World too.

Here's the thing; Its a bright shiny new game coming out, every game is gonna take a hit when a new game comes out in playerbase. Alas, some will come back, some won't. New gamers will replace them. It is, as mufasa tells us, the circle of life.

Also you cant base any opinion on what streamers are doing, they simply go for newer content because they have to keep it fresh or their fickle fans dissipate. Streamers flop in and out of games faster than a companion tanking a dragon.

This, pretty specifically. The truth is, aside from one faction, we are probably already there. It has gotten so bad in one camp that the most exciting thing for them is to Zerg down the (less than 5 players) who are capping rss at a home keep they can’t get back - maybe snipe a few that log in at the jump off point- and when that gets boring they log onto their alts in the third faction (who’s population has also gotten scary small) to take things back to give them something to do again. Ultimately I understand that’s what happens now in an unlocked camp, which I resent, and I am spending the majority of my time in GH now because there’s no longer a queue time basically ever and way smaller than it used to be- but at least existing population that actually fights with other players. But I do miss the small scale fights and community that used to exist in my home camp and my two guilds who sit in the NW channels only now.

If the PvP population continues to shrink at its current rate it will not be worth playing. I guess it is summer and I should probably be outside anyway lol.

A big but though. Having played MMO's for a long time now, I've seen them hyped before release and gone in a matter of months after more than just a few times.Even vanilla wow wasn't that much of a success initially when it came to people already experienced with playing mmo's. It's success came because it could attract people who were new to the genre (out of our guild that came over from UO, most were gone after 3 months, and me the last to leave after 9). This is not going to happen anymore for a new release in 2021.

So before going all crazy for an unreleased game, just wait and see what's left when the eye candy wore off, and how the company performs in actually running a game and not just announcements.

I’m glad that it won’t change your experience but it has already changed ours. If you don’t acknowledge that you will lose this portion of the player base. And I just bought 45 crates for a mount so I would hate to leave BC there’s no one left in cyro to show it off to lol.

Sorry to say but I don't mind if you leave or stay. I don't mind if ESO pulls the plug tomorrow.

I would like PVP to completely dissapear from ESO and all zos efforts were just about pve (even more).

If I continue having what I like and have some fun with ESO I will stay. If not bye bye. If New World was a game with better pve and solo than ESO I would jump but it is not.

I mean...its all about money and fun.

Never heard of the game until i saw this post. Watched the trailer, looks alright. Watched some gameplay and it doesn't excite me, and i wouldn't want to switch. Nothing stands out. I don't think it threatens ESO at all tbh.

I play ESO for the lore and the RP-vibe
yet New World has no fantasy races and no proper backstory, it looks [snip] to that extent. I sure would have liked a "De Cape Et D'épée" setting but let's be honest, the focusing on raw pvp and marginal endgame pve is not for me.

I've been watching New World streams today and the game doesn't look good at all. Moving and combat are very clunky and slow and five players doing a dungeon was them just spamming one attack almost exclusively and facetanking.

The setting doesn't interest me either. I don't want to be fantasy conquistador. I'd rather be a demon fighting those evil people.

Thats what everyone said about eso at the start, New world is improving faster than eso tho.
