Another one interesting thing about this quest: first, this is the most lore-ish quest from all New Life dailies because New Life in Tamriel isn't the same as Christmas/New Year celebrations on Earth.
Second, due we sending a message to Aetherius we have to get an "answer" from those whose souls went to Aetherius. That's why we don't have to see some characters like Kassandra or Leythen because their souls are actually in Hist or Oblivion. But if Oblivion souls could take a such messages, well, this will be interesting.
I monitored this thread, and I really wanted to seeAbnur Tharn
here, cause this would mean he won't return next year (or ever) He's one of my least liked characters.
So far I've seen all the same ghosts as everyone here, nothing new.
The only character whose death made me really sad is luckily not in the list of ghosts, probably because "there is no death in the Hist. We rise and fall like the sun - gone for a time, but always soon to return." She is leading the lost tribe down the River of Rebirth I really like to hope that this story will be finished someday in some side quest depending on player's choice, because:

When he is told 'Your sister wants to kill you', his response - 'I have that effect on people. Especially my relatives'
So, he is not in some delusion of grandeur.
IMHO
I swear to God this whole thread has me feeling like I'm being punked.
I've run this quest dozens of times now, on various alts, both NA and EU, and I have yet to see a single thing.
@NairinheThe whole point was that Kassandra was disconnected from the Hist, no?
And I never completely understood what happened to Leythen, what "being lost in nothingness between realities" means, but resting in Aetherius sounds like a much better option, so I'm not questioning that one
Edit:But Leythen did say that he will go to his and Val's daughter and they will wait for her, so, I guess it counted like "normal" death

Leythen was a servant of Mephala. No matter how he died or do he denied to serve to Daedra, his soul belongs to Mephala. His last words could be a lie to calm Valsirenn or even himself.

Or, you know, you could have just put it in spoilers, like almost everyone in the thread did, @Sirona_Starr
