I'm struggling to understand how it work, one of the biggest things i want for this game is the ability to change the time and weather of my owned houses. I like the idea of being able create the perfect ambiance for a necromancer's dream house, but thus far i dont know how to change the lighting so it doesnt just look like i turned down the brightness.

So, you can't set a time of day, exactly, with EHT, but you can create certain types of precipitation and "tone" the lighting using FX.

Try using the colored rooms FX (under the lighting submenu). I used this once to brighten and "warm" the overall lighting tone of the coldharbor house. Just change the color of the FX to a tone that matches the feel you want, and then make it BIG. (like, shift and click the size scaling) until it covers your whole plot.

If I remember correctly, the brightness, global and Darkness, veil FX (also in the lighting menu) can purely brighten or darken your plot. These are "global" FX, so you do not need to scale the size of them. However, you also can't use them to change the color tone of the lighting - they just make the visual settings brighter or darker. (and I do recommend fiddling with the grayscale settings for them in the FX color editing menu - it makes a big difference, and they have a lot of range). Both of these global FX can be used to either brighten or darken the lighting, so try them both! They can also work really well in connection with the colored rooms FX, to change the contrast settings for what you see, for example.

Precipitation FX is listed in the weather submenu. Remember, you can change the color of these as well, if you aren't finding exactly what you are looking for.
