Crown Crate Drop Success Rate Thread (Live Server)

I bought several crates as I had saved up crowns in anticipation of the event. I was very happy with the results. Got several mounts and outfits and a bunch of useful stuff. Some not so useful too but turned those back in for crowns. I did not keep track of what all I got but do know I have no complaints. But I do have a question. With the stuff I turned in for crowns, how do you spend those? They do not look like they work like regular crowns?

You should be able to access the gem store. You can only buy clown crate items with gems, not items in the regular store.

Quick question, I really only want the High-Collard Coin Bell Dress, can i junk for gems cosmetics/mounts i don't own or is it only duplicates and consumables that are junkable?

@gothickaiserub17_ESO only duplicates, which is automatic, and consumables.

lame, that's gonna up the min. crate purchases to guarantee it quite a bit. Honestly being able to junk anything you get reeeeally would be a nice feature to help people get what they want a little quicker, which i suppose is not the point of gambling crates at all! They are literally banking on people really wanting 1 specific item from them

    Ah the penny drops ;)

I have to say, I've just realised something. As far as I'm aware, ZOS have not once come out in defence of crates. That, to me, is admirable. So many companies go on a PR spree when they do this kind of thing, trying to convince customers that "we're just doing this for you guys - really" and similar rubbish, but credit where credit is due - ZOS doesn't seem to have tried to go full snake-oil salesman on this. I applaud that, their silence in defence of these things is great honesty.

Actually they had a big PR article on mmorpg.com, talking about how great these crates of consumables are. They have just been silent to their own community.

MMORPG: Why now add these to ESO, several years on?

MF: ESO is a living, breathing service and as such we make changes to it every quarter or so – new content, new systems, fixes, balance changes, etc. Just over a year ago we changed the game’s primary revenue model from subscription-required to subscription-optional, for example. This coming Update, we will drop character level requirements for exploring content, which is a large change to the game that we think will make the game more socially enabled and make it easier for players to find friends and group with them. We are committed to keeping the game fresh and interesting for players for the life of the game, so we will add new systems from time to time – Crown Crates is an example of this.

Adding crates keeps the game fresh and interesting? I think I just threw up in my mouth a little...

I am beginning to wonder if @Enodoc 's spreadsheet is being scammed. The drop rate for Apex mounts has increased dramatically over the last hour or so.

Earlier it had very few mounts listed even though the thread was full of people who were ( supposedly ) getting them. Will have to take it however we want I suppose.
I know I was a bad Khajiit and did contribute my (failed) findings to the spreadsheet, so my 70 crates of nothing aren't on that list. I'd consider buying more Crates so I can add my research to the list but ZOS needs to buy me dinner first.

Applaud their silence, lol. They are good at that. I'm torn on the whole crate thing. I have crowns just sitting there with nothing other than the new motif to spend them on, but I don't like gambling with knowing the odds. The fact that so many other threads have been shutdown already, leaves me a little suspecious. I didn't realize that many mods were on duty today.

What I would like to see for sure is a buff to the gem conversion, at least then it would be a little more palatable. IMHO you should only have to spend as much as an item would normally cost. Having to spend anything over the normal $40 for a mount is a bit much to take. I know you would still have to buy more than that at the moment, but instead of forcing me buy more crates to get enough gems to get that mount is kinda low.

I know it's too early to tell, but does this seem to be the current consensus? So for the price of 50 crates you can get the one item you want?

Assuming you bought 20K Crowns for $160 you should be able to get what you want?

The chances of not getting at least 1 Apex mount over 50 crates is very low. I would say the majority of people that would open that many would get already at least 1.

However the conversion rate does stink. I think 15 should give you enough gems for an apex item. Adding gems to crates would be a good idea.

I am a completionist and I pretty much brought all things from crown store before the creates appeared.....because of that its fairly easy to get to 400 gems.

For those people that dropped cash in the crown store since the beginning, I feel like we are being rewarded in a sense.

I don't know this is just my perspective. Yea it is a lottery BUT I ALSO feel like I am being rewarded for supporting the game EVEN THOUGH I bought stuff I wouldn't use....

    100 Gems

Thanks!!!! That's actually within my reach and I suspect I can get that by spending around 30 bucks which is what I'd be willing to spend in the first place. It's a bit random but that is the mount to end all mounts for me.

I also bought 10,000 crowns worth of crates and even though I got the atronach wolf mount which I really wanted, everything else I got was...well dissapointing.

I got some costumes (the only things i liked were the witches hat items.) I got the memento too but its are useless to me as I PVP.

and loads of consumables. You can get crown gems which are great! and then you can buy items with those, but you don't get that many at all by converting them.... its really mean.

    £48 quid.

Not worth it in my opinion I won't be spending on these crates again :)

(also note with the witches hat things, if your an elf your ears are gonna cut through it. If your a graphic freak like me, it will annoy the hell out of you :) )

I knew that before I even got one of those hats. Elf ears clip through almost every piece of crown store head gear. I don't buy head accessories for that reason.

You know the bar has really been dropped a notch when people are seriously defending the game the way you would defend a casino. And so many people who just want one or two items being lured into this sick scam. This is how a company treats its customers? Couldn't just continue to overcharge for crown store cosmetics. Had to kick it up to a whole new level of garbage, where dudes are casually writing off $150 as if that's normal. For what? Some electro cartoon horses? Disgusting.

You can't trade in all the items you get and don't want; the pets, outfits and hairstyles/frills/horns/tattoos aren't "consumables".

You can't buy gems because they want you to buy the clown crates. If you can buy the gems, you'll be able to buy what you want, and you won't buy more clown crates.

You apparently get 1-1 trade-in. However, if you get a stack of 5 poison from a card, you get 1 gem for that stack.

Again, they aren't going to make it easy to get the gems so you can buy what you want. The whole point of the exercise to to get you to buy more clown crates.

    Costumes/Accessories/hair etc...:14
    Pets:1

    Memento's:2

Bonus Rewards:2 (Storm orb juggle and Palomino Horse)

Total gems Pre-deconstruction of consumables: 40
    Overall gems: 81

Not terribly happy with the gem total. Should be 400 per 15 crates (Providing you trade in the consumables) at least for it to be worth the price.

The stuff I got is nice, but not worth 5k crowns.

45 crates is 3 packs. That is 16,500 crowns. If you stock up when they are on sale, that is $72. Still pricey, but you get a lot of other stuff in those 45 packs as well.

Thing is, I bought all that I wanted, liked, was interested in. I have the tiger, clouded leopard, panther, jaguar, lioness, lion, alliance horse, alliance dog, a few costumes, and a guar I bought for a reason that escapes me at the moment. I bought the Imperial digital edition, I have the collector's edition. I have 2 accounts, one subbed that has all the dlc bought with sub crowns, and the other account not subbed that has all the dlc bought with crowns I bought. I buy mimic stones on a regular basis because some style mats are obtained by doing stuff like pvp that I won't do and I like to craft. I've bought motifs.

Why should I be penalized by being forced to get and keep items I don't want if I want to buy clown crates so I'd get gems for dups? Does it look like I don't support the game?

I would like to support the game by buying what I want, like the black mane lion [and probably the black lion] that are locked behind the clown crate wall.

I broke down, bought another 15 crate pack.

And I have... 0 atro mounts. Over 85 crates, not one atro mount drop. Really? Yeah, sure, I have a lil' stockpile of gems, but what the hell, ZOS. This is stupid. And I'm stupid. I feel stupid for spending money on these crates to support the game, especially when I helped test them PTS and got screwed over the same way.

I feel burned. Granted, I totally doused myself and bought the match from the crown store.

To be honest I planned on opening 60 crates BECAUSE I thought the RNG would carry over from PTS I was wrong.

I had obtained everything I wanted in 15 crates granted I agree that's lucky but so many people are getting at least 1 atro mount with an investment of $50.00...

To be fair that's not TOO bad. I also got xp scrolls which I would of bought for $10.00 at some point in time.

A few new hats meh but kinda cool - would of never bought them nice to have though.

Interestingly, the 3rd crate I opened had a "bonus" card to flip (so 5 cards instead of the usual 4) and the storm senche was the bonus card that was shown being added to the line up. I also got the storm aura and soul shriven costume from the other crates. But I'm a complete tool and completely forgot to write down all the items in each crate, so apologies if this info is useless and I promise to do better next time (if there is a next time).

Additionally, I got a head circlet thing twice (?) and I was given 5 gems in exchange.

ughhhh........guys for all the peeps that bought everything in the crown store before the creates came along is BENEFITTING from this hugely....

I def can see why the masses are upset. especially is you are a new player and just getting into ESO.

Works the other way round too. I have only been playing the game on the PS4 for 3 months and have next to nothing. I now have all the rare mounts, the costumes and 1 storm mount for a grand total of 8000crs. I think the people who'll be shafted the most are those in the middle. The people who have a selection of the mounts and most of the lower tier stuff. Whilst i appreciate the Gods were looking down on me, If i had bought all those mounts via normal means, I'd have paid way more than 8000cr

RNG in the crown store now. When will it end :s

As long as people praise and defend such practices, it will never end. The time when people had sense has long ended and companies are free to prey on their customers stupidity.

I know it's naïve, but I hope at some point in the future a statement will be made along the lines of 'we didn't want to do this but the decision came from on high' or something to that effect.

Because I want to have faith in this company and the people in it. I guess that is stupid.

The problem with arguing with a jackass is that they never stop braying.

I am beginning to wonder if @Enodoc 's spreadsheet is being scammed. The drop rate for Apex mounts has increased dramatically over the last hour or so.
Or the drop rates are being tweaked on the back end to make the crates appear better up front while players try to gauge their value. We have no way of knowing.
I believe in the honesty of ZOS to not do that considerably more than random people on the internet.

It is odd that other numbers are not being reflected. It might just be people cherry picking their results. Logging that they got a mount, but not logging everything else they get.
I'll check the revision history in a bit (which will probably take a while) and see if there's anything particularly odd there.
Ok, I had a look through the revision history and I'm inclined to agree with this. There have been numerous instances where only a collecible has been logged (not just the Apex mounts, but they're the most common), with no other cards being recorded for 5 minutes either side of that.

Whoever logged those clearly cherry-picked only the collectibles, so didn't follow the critical rule of "record every card". I'm going to moderate those values out for breaking the rules, and for full disclosure, this is what I'm moderating:
    -4 Atronach Horse
    -3 Atronach Senche
    -1 Bonus Card
    -1 Daggerback
    -3 Atronach Guar
    -4 Atronach Bear
    -1 Atronach Camel
    -1 Crown Lethal Poison (25)
    -2 Atronach Wolf
    -1 Mages Hat
    -1 Frost Mare
There may have been other false logs, but all other revisions were "reasonable", in that multiples of four cards appeared within a few minutes of each other.

Please do say if you object to this moderation, but I hope keeping the results as consistent as possible means that it is acceptable.

And how would that change anything about the future conduct of the company ?
Do you think they would have your interests at heart with ANY such statement ?
I dont think there is any depths they would not sink to at this point.
Its all about the profit. Nothing else matters.
