What do you think of Crown Store Random boxes/Lottery box?

No, don't ever add these into the game.
Let me share my experience with you. For 14+ years I was a paying member of an online game called Neopets. They had items you customized your pets with. They had items obtainable from stores in the game you bought with 'neopoints' and they had a completely different type of wearables they sold for 'neocash' in the 'neocash mall'. By different I mean a huge vast difference in quality. They sold collectibles that would eventually get recycled in random capsules you bought with money and got random items and the chance for the limited edition items. They have a system in game where you can trade items though. Anyways, it led to people selling rare hard to get items offsite on the black market, and accounts seen using rare items sometimes got hacked and the account hijacked and the items moved off the account to a shell account and it led to people getting banned, people who were victims of hacking getting unjustifiably banned, and items and info stolen. I know people who have spent $5000 or more on cash grabs, then lost everything when they were flashing around their Limited Edition items.

I know ESO currently has no way to trade crown store items. I know ESO is marketed to an adult market not a kids market, but kids do play this game, this is a reality. This isn't about it being gambling. This isn't about spending real money for digital items. My concern lies in the risk of people with nice rare items they get from the loot boxes, and how secure ESO is. If ZOS can pull this off without putting people at risk of having their accounts messed with, and without making blackmarket account sellers drool over accounts with rare items...they already do over pvp ranks and colors in accounts that people buy...if ZOS does this right, it could be addictive and fun. If it's done poorly, its going to turn a lot of fans sour on the Crown store.

The only way of doing it right is to cancel these RNG boxes - there is no other way to make me spend money on this game again - not a cent, nothing, nada - they have just p*ssed me off enough to get my wallet closed and that of a lot of others as well, when i look at the poll result. I will look for another game and play here once in a while a bit - it is anyway pointless, all I want is to explore those zones which I do not know yet - and once i have seen them, there is nothing left for me here.

Edit: it might be too late to get me back as a full blown customer though - trust is the base of any relationship, and I do not trust them anymore.

Actually if i may recap and summarize it all, the main concern is we majority of the players here in ESO don't want the "random mystery boxes" or premium RNG crates right?

Because even the boxes are indeed and confirmed only "Cosmetics" for the time being but it is an act of gambling in a MMORPG game and there is a big chance it will change in the future and ZOS may not guaranteed it if someday the box contents change to weapons, armors, etc right?

So my best opinion is rather to put the bad and negative things aside like the RNG ones and keep up the already good ones right folks?

"By the eight, this one don't want Tamriel turn into chaos and misorder" :'(

I am tagging ZOS team again (Gina and Jessica), sorry folks this thread already have 9,6K views since made yesterday and it is already a hot topic in reddit besides the update 12 contents...

    @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom

Hopefully ZOS team can answer our concerns in the next ESO Live videos

Thanks for your thoughts on the upcoming Crown Crates, everyone. Just want to clarify a few points -

First, Crown Crates will be available later this year, and will only include cosmetic or convenience items. You'll find things like potions and other consumables, pets, costumes, and - yes - sometimes even mounts. This will give you a chance to try and obtain previous limited time offers, or even some very unique items as Matt mentioned. It will not include things like armor or weapons.

In the event you get an item that you already own, you can exchange it for a currency called Crown Gems which will allow you to buy a different item of your choice.

This game is going downhill. Fast.

Such a shame to see it come to this.

Oh certainly. It is just that I'm going through the stages of grief right now.

1 - Denial: "That's absurd, they told us they were not going to add RNG boxed to the Crown Store. There must be some mistake on this Gamescom report."

2 - Anger: "I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY LIED TO US AGAIN. GODS, I'M SO MAD RIGHT NOW I'LL POST THIS GAMESCOM VIDEO EVERYWHERE"

3 - Bargaining (I'm here): "Ok maybe if it is implemented in this certain way, it won't be so bad, right?"

Only two stages to go, depression and acceptance.

I just had to think about something in the movie Avatar when I read your post - "things are reverse now ... the dream feels like reality ... and reality is the dream now ... but eventually you'll always have to wake up" - Jake (from my memory, might not be exact). Children are just one side of the coin - those can get addicted to gambling when exposed at a young age - the other side of the coin are people which are already gambling addicted or have a low level of self-control when it comes to things they want, even if they cannot afford those and it would bring them into an existence crisis or their family.

yes, and the less items they have from the crown store, the longer and more boxes it will take - because they won't get Crown Gems to exchange with what they want, if that item, which they got, is not in their collection yet - then there will be no choice, they will get this item added to their collection, if they like it or not - people with not much in their collection panel yet will have a really hard time to get aynthing they really want this way - it will cost them just a huge amount of money to try.

Ok Helen Lovejoy; if you can't handle box sales in a video game you can't handle being on the internet in the first place. In fact its safe to say you can't handle being anywhere at any given time in the United States since you'll be tempted by "chance"

I've come to the conclusion a vast majority of ESO players are morons.

There is exactly zero stuff that these boxes will contain that will have any actual effect on you in game...and yet...You're all talking about how this is the death of the game.

*** I played GW2 and they had these boxes....I had a crap ton of them just sitting in the bank and I maybe opened 1 the entire time I played from a key i randomly got.

The sheer absurdity of the posters in this thread is mind boggling...

Children are just one side of the coin - those can get addicted to gambling when exposed at a young age - the other side of the coin are people which are already gambling addicted or have a low level of self-control when it comes to things they want, even if they cannot afford those and it would bring them into an existence crisis or their family.

Ok Helen Lovejoy; if you can't handle box sales in a video game you can't handle being on the internet in the first place. In fact its safe to say you can't handle being anywhere at any given time in the United States since you'll be tempted by "chance"

I did not expect you to understand the deeper meaning of what an addiction means for the person being addicted. That they do not have control over their behavior anymore, that it is an impulse control disorder.

Impulse control disorder (ICD) is a class of psychiatric disorders characterized by impulsivity – failure to resist a temptation, urge or impulse that may harm oneself or others.

THIS IS HOW A GAME DIES.

Zenimax. You wanna earn my trust in a big way? Officially condemn this practice and scrap this idea. You dont wanna do that? I'm gonna advise everyone not to buy ***, not the nice DLC bundle, not the deals, not the cosmetics until you remove and condemn this practice.

I dont have much trust left but your pushin' it.

    No its not

    This is hyperbole.

Games don't die from lockboxes selling items you can't even trade with other players, esp items that are purely cosmetic.

    Yes it is

No; No its not...I can base this on the vast majority of MMO's that have lockboxes and still very much alive.

In fact the vast majority of MMO's that have closed down didn't have lockboxes, and they closed down based on the fact that weren't producing money.

    Wtf did I just read?
I'm done with you, you go to the ignore list
