STOP DOING EQUIPMENT WRITS

Just a heads up, I have done all 3 equipment writs across 8 toons over the past 3 days. In a nutshell;

I am now at a net loss of ;
1. Around 50 Rubedite ores per toon --> 400 ore lost
2. Around 40 ash per toon --> 320 ash lost
3. Around 40 silk per toon --> 320 silk lost

In return, I got one wax and one temper --> about 11.5k gold + 660*8*3 = about 27k gold. Bear in mind, tempers and wax are rng so you might not get any.
So breaking it down per toon --> you would lose about 50 of each v15 mat and get around 2k gold in return (not including gold mats) for doing equipment dailies.
You would be better off not relying on RNG and avoiding crafting dailies for equipment writs altogether IMO.

Do at your own risk. Stick to consumables to get kutas at minimal cost. I, personally am going to stop doing any equipment writs until ZOS gets this nonsense sorted.

    Yeah, I stopped doing them before the patch dropped. Basically, until the equipment writs are seriously overhauled, there's no money in them, anymore.

    Yeah, I stopped doing them too. I did the writs almost religiously every day... since is the only thing I am able to do with my limited time on weekdays, and now I barely log in to receive the hirelings and close the game.

    It's a pretty saddening change.

    But.. but.. they're so addicting!
    However, they are a complete loss overall. Only thing I enjoy from them is getting the surveys, not to mention I still need the achievement for doing X amount of writs. After I hit that achievement, I'll most likely stop.

    Provisioning, alchemy, and for the most part, Enchanting are still absolutely worth doing. If you just want the writ achievements, and don't care about getting it done right now, then those are a better route to go.

    EDIT: I mean, that's the really confusing thing to me. The consumable writs actually help you build up a stockpile of useful materials. The equipment writs drain your material stockpiles on a dice roll for goodies, like glass pages and gold upgrade mats. I honestly don't know which is the intended outcome. Are writs supposed to be an expensive diceroll, or are they there to help players get the crafting mats they need to make the stuff they actually want?

    All because some people QQ'ed about finding Nightwood for top-tier writs.

    The main problem is the deconstruction restriction. I get so much void-tier mats from decon of dungeon drops that my stockpile of that tier keeps growing and growing despite writ usage. But my top-tier stuff was barely keeping pace last patch. And is now definitely in a deficit.

    Except the whole point of crafting dailies is to help u get mats that you need to craft..... The gold mats are just icing.... Right now its costing me mats.... Id rather just farm mats and NOT do the dailies for an even bigger profit.... Or is simple math a little hard for you to comprehend.... When something costs you more than what you get in return, its not a 100% profit.. Its a LOSS...... In this case a pretty sizeable one...

    How is it not 100% profit? You farm mats, take said mats and craft writs, turn in writs and you are rewarded with gold, upgrade materials(able to be sold), gear (able to be sold/decon) glass frags(able to be sold), and surveys (where you can farm mats).

    The process cost 0 gold. Using simple math... You make a 100% profit.

    Top tier mats are too precious for me to be wasting them on a gamble with a very low chance of good return. I still have 3 extra chars to gear up, at ~700 pieces per full set.

    Specially when it's easier and more reliable to get the gold tempers (then only valuable thing really) through refining.

    For people that has few time for playing, writs used to be worth doing daily because the short time the took to finish. If now the rationale behind them is that they are a mat dump, and you need to get mats from other sources to do them, then they are not worth my time anymore.

    Time is the most difficult thing to spare for some of us, and I'd prefer to use it for playing the game, not farming mats.

    I remember back when I picked up my first crafting writ. I was a lowbie around level 10 or whatever it is when you get the notification. I picked up a smithing writ. I had nowhere near enough mats for it. I promptly abandoned it and never picked up another one. I didn't want to part with that many mats. I do consumable writs and that's it.

    How do people have fun farming mats every day. I get bored doing that after one day for only five hours. I feel like i lost part of my life. When the game becomes a job i no longer find it fun anymore. The way things are going might as well just sell all the mats and not bother with writs. Eventually you will run out out of mats for writs.

    Did some quick napkin math today on NA server (PC) clothing writs for cloth will run you around 2500g per writ. You get back 650g per quest turn in. Chance at tempers and such probably average another 650g so you are losing mats. Better off selling what you farm and buying what you need.

    I feel like I might be the only one that gets it.

    No, I understand you. But Vangy has a point.

    Depending on the state of the market for mats, it might or might not be more profitable to do the crafting writs or to sell the mats directly. When mats are cheap like now, it's possibly more profitable to do writs. When mats prices are high, it's definitely a loss.

    You also have a very good point : crafting writs for equipment have NEVER been a way to gather mats, nor have they ever been meant to. It's merely a sink for extra mats for people who enjoy farming mats.

    In short, if you have extra mats stocked up, you can choose between selling them directly or do writs. But if you don't have extra mats and you need to buy them to complete writs, you're better off not doing them at all.
