This may be true, if writs are the primary source of upgrade mats.Yes yes, stop doing writs.
Less poeple who are doing it = highter price of tempering aloy/wax etc
More money for me

792g, 1 dreugh wax, 1 temp alloy, 2 repair kits, 2 trait stones, an axe that sells for 280%, 2 Glass fragments, and a Clothing survey. Plus mats from survey. 44 of silk and void each.
Collected survey and refined mats. Got another wax.
Lets add what I can sell: 792 + 281 (axe)+ 3,000 (2 frags)+ 15,000 (temp alloy) + 16,000 (2 wax) = 35,073 gold.
That is a profit.

Good now that you have come close to understanding basic economics now we can get to work trying to make you understand RNG. (you still need to compare how much material you used relative to how much you got from the surveys). If you are doing void writs, then its a non-issue. We are discussing end game writs so I think maybe u have a typo in there. Those waxes and tempers you got are RNG. More often than not, you wont get gold mats from equipment writs. Same applies for surveys. So on most days, you will be making a loss.
And 15k for a temper??? and 8k per wax???? Wow ps4 pricing is insane....... Keep doing these writs and tabulate the results like I have done over the past week. You will eventually come to the same conclusion as me as long as you dont forget to account for the usage of mats and the influx of mats from surveys.
I will keep doing them considering I just profited over 24k, this time.
Yes, some prices are high. Yes, I won't get this every most of the time... But I profited more from this than the cost of selling the materials, this time.
I didn't lose gold...I made gold, this time.
KEEP DOING EQUIPMENT WRITS

No. What you just calculated is income, not profit.
Strictly accounting-wise, you have to withdraw the value of the mats you used to craft the items required by the writ. NOT at their "production cost" = zero if you farmed it yourself, but at their CURRENT MARKET VALUE.
That's how you calculate profit.
Oh I think I see the misunderstanding. @imnotanother is on PS4 so the writs are still void and 1 rubedite item. The new patch (and new writs) are all rubedite. Right?

You are correct, the value of mats was 10,500. I profited 24.5k. Good 3 minutes of "work." Plus I am sitting on over 4,000 pieces of all 3 materials. And millions in gold, clearly all you can do is make a profit in this game.

You did 3 writs and the surveys in 3 minutes?- I do not believe that, sorry.
I used your numbers in the OP to calculate material cost, that is where the 10.5k came from. Cost of end game gear.Oh I think I see the misunderstanding. @imnotanother is on PS4 so the writs are still void and 1 rubedite item. The new patch (and new writs) are all rubedite. Right?
OMG. This may explain it. HE DOSENT HAVE ALL RUBEDITE WRITS. OMG YOU DUMB DUMB. In a while you will see what we mean....... You are still living in the age of awesome profit writs which I LOVED doing....... @imnotanother
Eventually..... the bad changes will hit your platform and you will see what we mean...

So the profit margin is still the same.
But on the 16th, I will keep track. I imagine some days may be weaker to others but we will see if a profit happens.
Good Gaming to everyone

Why are you taking this so personal Vangy? Sheesh. But have fun punching the clock at your job later. Work a little harder for me.
@Lysette what is so hard to believe? I always log out in Grahtwood. Grabbed the quests, hit up the stations, traveled to Wrothgar, and only had one survey.
So maybe it took 5 minutes....sorry.

It depends on the situation of the mats markets for each particular tier of writs, and it all evolves over time, mats prices can inflate or deflate by a factor of x10 in a matter of weeks.
All we need to do is to be careful and never assume that surveys are always profitable - they're not, and most of all, never assume they're meant for us to gather more mats. Clearly, they ALWAYS cost more mats than they bring.

See that's the thing that makes me wonder..... If they are not always profitable, and they take away more mats than they bring... Why refer to them as dailies.... Altho... its us players that refer to them as dailies.... Not ZOS. So maybe this is ZOS intention all along... For them to be a once in a while turn in things rather than every day.

Well... they're repeatable quests limited to once a day, so technically they're dailies.
I think players should always be able to assume safely that any activity available in the game will bring them some benefit (gold, XP, loot, whatever). If sometimes it's not the case, then it's flawed design from ZOS. You shouldn't actually have to wonder if you're shooting yourself in the foot when you pick up a quest.
That said, having to use my brain every now and then in the game is a nice thing. Brain is a bit underused in ESO.
I have stopped doing the Clothier Writ, since that one now does not give a good enough reward to do it.
But i am still doing Blacksmith, as that gives a profit still.
Just to recount;
Writs are not there to gain more material. As someone else stated, Writs has NEVER returned more material than it costed. What Writs are for, is gaining Gold Tempers. Currently the price of Rubedite Ingots compared to the price of Gold Temper, makes it profitable.
Enchanting is just a no-brainer - pure profit.
