    Yes yes, stop doing writs.
Less poeple who are doing it = highter price of tempering aloy/wax etc

    More money for me >:)
This may be true, if writs are the primary source of upgrade mats.
Ok everyone, I jumped on the game to do my writs. From the 3 equipment writs, this is the rewards:
792g, 1 dreugh wax, 1 temp alloy, 2 repair kits, 2 trait stones, an axe that sells for 280%, 2 Glass fragments, and a Clothing survey. Plus mats from survey. 44 of silk and void each.

Collected survey and refined mats. Got another wax.

    Lets add what I can sell: 792 + 281 (axe)+ 3,000 (2 frags)+ 15,000 (temp alloy) + 16,000 (2 wax) = 35,073 gold.

    That is a profit.

I suspect your single piece of anecdotal evidence may not be statistically significant.

And now substract from it, what you had to put in to get this - the market value of the materials you had to put in to complete these writs - plus what you think your time is worth, which you had to put in to do the writs and the surveys.

Good now that you have come close to understanding basic economics now we can get to work trying to make you understand RNG. (you still need to compare how much material you used relative to how much you got from the surveys). If you are doing void writs, then its a non-issue. We are discussing end game writs so I think maybe u have a typo in there. Those waxes and tempers you got are RNG. More often than not, you wont get gold mats from equipment writs. Same applies for surveys. So on most days, you will be making a loss.

And 15k for a temper??? and 8k per wax???? Wow ps4 pricing is insane....... Keep doing these writs and tabulate the results like I have done over the past week. You will eventually come to the same conclusion as me as long as you dont forget to account for the usage of mats and the influx of mats from surveys.

I will keep doing them considering I just profited over 24k, this time.
Yes, some prices are high. Yes, I won't get this every most of the time... But I profited more from this than the cost of selling the materials, this time.

I didn't lose gold...I made gold, this time.
    KEEP DOING EQUIPMENT WRITS

    Fixed it for ya:

~ Sure thing bud. Hope lots of people listen to ya so I can offload v15 mats that I farmed for a proper profit =X

No. What you just calculated is income, not profit.
Strictly accounting-wise, you have to withdraw the value of the mats you used to craft the items required by the writ. NOT at their "production cost" = zero if you farmed it yourself, but at their CURRENT MARKET VALUE.
    That's how you calculate profit.

@imnotanother Thats a REALLY good RNG for 3 writs handed in. You have to look at it from the longer perspective. If i turn in 3 writs everyday the net profit will be far less than 30k gold. Yesterday i turned in 3 writs and got no goldmats, no surveys and no glassfragments. I calculated my "profit" to around 3k gold.

I have done my equipmentwrits religiously every day for months. I dont do em anymore until this bs is changed. When i can sell my mats for more than i net from the writs i dont see any use for making em especially when im a fully lvled crafter and way above cp cap.

You are correct, the value of mats was 10,500. I profited 25.5k. Good 3 minutes of "work." Plus I am sitting on over 4,000 pieces of all 3 materials. And millions in gold, clearly all you can do is make a profit in this game.

I used your numbers in the OP to calculate material cost, that is where the 10.5k came from. Cost of end game gear.

So the profit margin is still the same.

But on the 16th, I will keep track. I imagine some days may be weaker to others but we will see if a profit happens.

That's why imho noone can say for everyone and in all cases that equipment writs are or are not profitable or worth/not worth doing.

It depends on the situation of the mats markets for each particular tier of writs, and it all evolves over time, mats prices can inflate or deflate by a factor of x10 in a matter of weeks.
All we need to do is to be careful and never assume that surveys are always profitable - they're not, and most of all, never assume they're meant for us to gather more mats. Clearly, they ALWAYS cost more mats than they bring.

See, "doesn't take long" is a better statement - because it is your personal perception of time passing - but 3 or 5 minutes is an absolute and this has to be somewhat precise. People's perception of "takes long" or "is quick" depends a lot on their involvement into the action - 10 minutes of boredom is extremely long, whereas 10 minutes of sex is over too quickly.

Well... they're repeatable quests limited to once a day, so technically they're dailies.
I think players should always be able to assume safely that any activity available in the game will bring them some benefit (gold, XP, loot, whatever). If sometimes it's not the case, then it's flawed design from ZOS. You shouldn't actually have to wonder if you're shooting yourself in the foot when you pick up a quest.
That said, having to use my brain every now and then in the game is a nice thing. Brain is a bit underused in ESO.

Old Wrothgar dailies definitely gave you back more mats than you used to fulfill them.
Surveys are RNG but on the course of the week doing them on three chars on average I always managed to accumulate enough Surveys that when gathered I ended up with more mats than I used during the week.

EDIT: And that's what has changed on this patch, with current conditions even if you get Surveys every time each day, you'll never recoup what you used on them at the end of the week. Unless you want to depend on the RNG proc rate of the Plentiful harvest passive, that is :)

I have stopped doing the Clothier Writ, since that one now does not give a good enough reward to do it.

But i am still doing Blacksmith, as that gives a profit still.

    Just to recount;

Writs are not there to gain more material. As someone else stated, Writs has NEVER returned more material than it costed. What Writs are for, is gaining Gold Tempers. Currently the price of Rubedite Ingots compared to the price of Gold Temper, makes it profitable.

Enchanting is just a no-brainer - pure profit.

See that's the thing that makes me wonder..... If they are not always profitable, and they take away more mats than they bring... Why refer to them as dailies.... Altho... its us players that refer to them as dailies.... Not ZOS. So maybe this is ZOS intention all along... For them to be a once in a while turn in things rather than every day.

Well... they're repeatable quests limited to once a day, so technically they're dailies.

Especially low level characters can be screwed by it - like some alchemy writs required cornflower - this is off lately quite expensive and those 3 you need outweight the reward for doing the writ already - as a low level you shoot into your own foot, if you do that writ, because if you won't get columbine or cornflower as a reward for it, you are screwed and lost money.

So is the design flawed here - definitely - ZOS did not take into account what the alchemy changes and new poisons will do to the writs and the income of low level characters, which depend on those writs. My cornflowers were running out yesterday and I had to visit 11 guild traders to get just 10 - no one is really wanting to sell them in quantity currently.

For low level characters it makes much more sense to pick flowers and sell them - writs are not making a lot of money. I just do them, because I like doing them, knowing that in the end I have to pay for it, by not making the money which I could make just by farming materials and selling them instead to use them myself.

But it looks currently like I will have to pick flowers, because the materials are just getting too expensive or are not available in the amount in which I need them - 72 writs mean that I have to buy a couple of stacks of material every day. And like it is now, I will most likely stop doing writs - it is just not worth it at my level(s). Well, I can do enchanting and provisioning - I have tons of material for those.

Writs ALWAYS gave more v15 material than they cost via surveys. They only costed more lower level mats. The money you made from getting the v15 mats always made up for this. Now they cost A LOT of v15 mats and DONT return enough v15 mats... So no. Imo they never costed more mats (In terms of gold) than they returned.
