Why does PvP only appeal to a niche group of players?

For a threat asking why so few enjoy ESO PvP you find a lot of posts in this threat by players who love ESO PvP trying to push their own theories, usually of the self-aggrandizing persuasion. Perhaps listening to those who do not partake in the PvP experience would be the wiser choice?

As for my own limited experience with ESO PvP: Cyrodiil was not designed around solo players, hence this is not for me by default. Further, I prefer competitive challenges and games that focus on skill, rather than skill + gear ( + CP in some cases) where the latter demand a significant upfront time investment. There is no shortage of such. Also, in ESO this might be implemented by having a few archetypes with equal build and gear attributes that can be used by everyone for specific PvP modes with minimal time investment.

That said, as far as I am concerned PvP events and the current way PvP is handled are perfectly fine. I hope those who enjoy ESO PvP and spend many hours collecting the perfect set and honing their skills to dominate the battlefield get the most out of it. They are expressing their competitiveness in a highly specific way, and more power to that. Also, there is no reason that ESO should be played in one way only.

Speaking for myself... PvP was enjoyable, then they added a ton of proc sets to the game. Then PvP turned from Player vs Player to Proc vs Proc, and the entire thing became a pointless mess.

I pvp'd extensively in WoW (in a friend's guild on a pvp server). I actually hated every minute of it. I have ZERO interest in any sort of competition. In Rift, I pvp'd as little as possible, eventually (after about a year) not bothering with it at all.

I refused to play ESO UNTIL I made sure there was no possible way I would have to mess with pvp in this game.

It's not fun; it's not interesting; I'm still not competitive by nature, and I never will be.

You don't need to be competitive to enjoy PVP. PVP is more about group play than PVE. You can play all PVE zones without ever playing with another player. In PVP you can do the same but it will at times become challenging. I like PVP for its group play style and working as a team. Yes you can do this in PVE in trials but in PVP it is easier to join a larger group and play with the group than it is to find a group in PVE for trials. Even as someone that like playing Tank/Healers in PVE, I found PVP more enjoyable and a better challenger. I also didn't have to deal with the hour plus wait that you see in PVE for trials. In PVP, you join a group and help out from sieging, healing, etc...

ESO PVP is actually fun for me and is why I'm still playing ESO. If it wasn't for PVP I probably would have stopped playing ESO years ago.

As for smaller content PVP I do find that to be more competitive.
